  • This is an extended version of the scene in Stuart Gordon's From Beyond (1986) where Dr Pretorious transforms for the first time. It is compiled from two different masters - the final cut of the film (taken from an Asian DVD), and rare workprint footage seen in the 1989 documentary Stephen King's This Is Horror (from a Danish DVD). There's no sound in the rare scenes, but don't worry, the subtitles are just from a Charles Band interview originally running over the top. The new inserts are NOT featured in the Director's Cut that aired on Monsters HD.
    NOTE: Contains gore FX some may find upsetting.

    Need a sequel, this idea has so much potential. Especially with modern technologies. Just imagine - when Pretorious`s machine is turned on - 3d and 48 fps like in hobbit( or even more) for all scenes when machine is on - so everybody in the cinema could literatuly feel this extended vision on reallity... and how uncofortable it could be.)

    Does anyone know the reason for this scene not being included in the updated director's cut release?

      Because whoever made the director’s cut is an asshole

    From Beyond is a great old school prosthetic FX slimefest, they don't make 'em like this anymore.I love the eyeball/brain sucking scene.

    No it is influenced by THE THING. Lovecraft's story is great, but it doesn't have any of this stuff in it. It's more or less adapated as the pre-credits sequence of From Beyond, with everything after it a sequel/extrapolation of it.

    Actually the movie is based on an H.P. Lovecraft story which predated The Thing. In fact Stephen King was highly influenced by Lovecraft, so it's actually the other way around. As for the film's visual style, maybe.

    That's an excellent question. I believe it was cut from the theatrical release not due to censorship, but probably because they didn't like the end result. However it definitely should have been included in the recent release, at least in the supplements. The set even includes a mini-documentary specifally about the special effects! My guess is that the compilers weren't aware of its existence.

    Clearly influenced by The Thing.

    are you trying to tell us that stephen king wrote the thing? cuz he did not..... however Lovecrafts work do predate The Thing by many, many years.
    The movies is in the monster department pretty much the same thing and that is why they resemble eachother. Lovecraft is to me the creator of these surealistic and slimey monsters.

    I never even insinuated that King wrote From Beyond. I was replying to someone who was trying to say that this was influenced by the Thing (King's work, obviously), when the Thing was written well after this movie, so the Thing would be more influenced by From Beyond. But I don't even believe that, as both were inspired by H.P. Lovecraft. It's a third variable explanation that just makes more sense.

      No, "The Thing" it's not influenced by "From Beyond. "The Thing" came out in 82 and "From Beyond" în 86

  • @andellzor
    @andellzor 16 років тому

    What i tryed to say is that King have nothing to do with The Thing.... sorry if i was not clear. The Thing is a remake of a old sci-fi movie with similar story called "the thing from another world" wich in turn is based on John W. Campbell Jr´S novel "who goes there".
