  • Restoration 1965s Romanian Pepper Grinder - Ugly and Rusty
For today I restored a pepper grinder and I did an amazing restoration that will be to your liking. You must see the whole process and the final result !!
This grinder came to me in a deplorable condition. it was very dirty and very rusty, both on the outside and on the inside. But for a grinder made in 1965, I was surprised to find that it worked in good condition.
    The Restoration Process:
I started the restoration by carefully disassembly the grinder. It was not easy to remove the lid because it was blocked, but after I opened all the components, I started to restore and repair some parts. I saw that you are a fan of sandblasting in the restoration videos and I listened to your opinions. In this video I cleaned the piece by the sandblasting method. After that I restored all the metal parts and I changed the plastic on the handle with a new one, created on a 3D printer. I'm very pleased with this restoration video and I know you will be !

@@CoolAgainRestoration I use something like that as a jeweler. We call it a pin polisher. The media is tiny little steel pins, and we add a solution and water. The pins are "stirred" by a magnet rotating underneath the base of the vessel. Doesn't just clean all the nooks and crannies, but puts a nice burnished polish on softer metals. Half the battle when polishing anything is deciding the best method to achieve it correctly. Sometimes one piece may contain parts that were each handled differently, like this one. I would love to see your workshop and your seemingly endless array of tools and compounds!

9:34 For preventing rust on food grade equipment you can heat up the steel parts (I think around 300°C) and drop them in Olive oil.
In this pepper grinder all internal parts has to be dry and not coated with oil.

@@CoolAgainRestoration three main things I would have done the other way: the hole in the printed part seems to be slightly off-centre and it could be prevented by modelling a hole with a smaller diameter which would act as guide for drilling it to needed diameter
Second one is about the printed part finishing: I always use filler and then paint printed parts if they are visible and the object I use it for is intended to be aesthetic
And the last one is about that metal logo: I guess these inserting parts should be bent after you install it and probably it was intended to be installed before the lid but I guess it's still possible to bend it through the window for the collecting tray

From the sound of the metal parts being removed during disassembly it seemed like the pepper grinder was made out of good heavy steel. I did think the patina of the grinder handle was a great decision. It lets people know that this was indeed an old pepper grinder. It would look great on my kitchen counter. Another excellent restoration!!! Thanks.👌👌👌

Excellent job, and the pepper was ground perfectly! Since you asked, Yes, all the sound effects are great, I love them; and it's good you retained some patina. 👏🏻👏🏻
