Today I'm showing you to build this EASY Bed Platform with materials from your local home center! I love how simple and easy the project is, but also minimal, modern and attractive. If you dont have a table saw, you can build this whole bed with just a circular saw.

Me and my dad built the exact type of bed frame a few years ago. We never screwed in the mattress support parts in top, as I wanted to use the underside for storage, but honestly it's the one of the most strongest bed frames I have ever owned. Highly recommend this DIY!

I've been looking for a simple, yet robust, platform bed frame to make and I think this is the best one yet. I think I may try to put the rails a bit further down so that the mattress is not as tall, though. I'd also like to add some 4x4 legs to raise the best off the floor a few inches so the vacuum can get under. Thank you for such a well explained video!

I woke up and my back hurt from my mattress on the floor, i decided to just go to home depot and buy everything for this and build it. I watched this video twice and just built based on my own knowledge without the plans, its great, it looks so good on the ground and it feels so sturdy. Thank you for this idea! I been wanting to make something like this for a few months but never got around to it. Thanks for the inspiration

I'm heading out to travel and am going to build a bed just for my size; it will need to have storage under it. I think I need boxes laid sideways and support in the middle, but not sure how to do it. Guess I need to keep looking!

I wish there was a place you could buy jointed and planed wood so you don't need a $800 of tools just to start doing carpentry

You wouldn't save any money because paying a carpenter to make them would cost more. The reason these aren't readily available is because it isn't worth the time it takes to do for sale.
S4S (surfaced 4 sides) lumber is jointed/planed. It costs a bit more, but it is available.

Great plans, super easy build. I added five, 6" legs to allow for storage underneath and to raise the overall height. Bye-bye crappy box spring.

I know this video is 4 years old but it so relevant today, February 10, 2024. My child desperately needs me to make this. I looked at your plans (thank you) but I see there isn't one for a full bed. Using the pocket hole jig like that has seriously blown my mind, for some reason it's always been stuck in my head that it has to be attached to the bench. I feel so dumb lol but thanks for the inadvertent advice!

Really amazing work, minimalist aura that this build has is amazing, can you share which type of wood is this?
Thank you! I used a very easily accessible framing lumber pine wood from Home Depot. Inexpensive, sturdy and I prettied it up. But you could definitely use a nicer wood.

I can’t wait to try this I’ve been looking for a demonstration so I can build this to replace the slats that hold my mattress up. Mainly bc I want a higher bed but I also want to stop my cats from crawling under the slats on my platform bed

Would it be strong enough to make this out of spruce? Also, do you think it'd be a good idea to add ventilation holes or legs so there is fresh air under the mattress?

Edit: Also, what's that right angled piece of wood you used to help you clamp the 2x12s together? Looks handy to keep it together when drilling pocket hole screws.

Thanks! Pre-drilling a pilot hole (with a bit) for a future screw ensures your wood won’t crack.

The plans call for a 2x12 in the center that has to be cut down to basically a 2x10, which would be way easier to purchase than to cut.
A 2x10 in its *actual* measurement is about 1.5” x 9.25” which makes it too short for the part. That’s why the next size up, cut down to 10” is required. Construction lumber is always actually smaller than the size of its name.
