Such a great video. I really appreciate that you kept the tools used to build this limited to what most average households have (with the exception of the planer). It was also really cool that you demonstrated some more advanced joinery, fit & finish techniques using entry level affordable power tools sold at Home Depot and Walmart. Your skill and use of the circular saw was impressive as well. You turned that circular saw into a Table saw, chop saw, band saw and router. Made to look a lot easier that it is for someone who is not proficient with the tools. Maybe you already have videos like that on you channel and if so I shall just add one more check box to the open mouth insert foot tally sheet for my life.
96 inch 2x4 $4. also instead of the 2x4 going across the entire bottom you can just make a box and cut 2x4 into say 1ft pieces then attach them to the box. have 2 going full length on each side. 12 boards should be enough to make box and the rest of the platform
I love the looks and idea of this bed! I saw your idea and ran with it (heavily modified) so it can be easily disesmbled and moved. I connect the spacers to the legs and the slats can slide in and out!
I modified this build. Instead of using spacers between the bed base, I cut the long 2x4 boards and used that as the spacer and then shorter 2x4 boards to run between them (like you did the 2x4 bench). Less cuts and material used and one step removed from the process. My son loves it in his new apartment away from home
Chop saw would be in your next to buy list of tools. Never gonna be accurate enough with a hand saw. I made a workbench with this side by side method with 1x3s and a japanese pond deck using the side by side 2 x 4s. Really do come out nice and stronger than a usual deck.

A little tip for anyone trying this. @4:00 add 1 extra sacrificial board on the tail end of the block. Or the planer will likely destroy your end piece when planing across grain this way
All the comments are about how expensive this would be, but 30 2x4 at around $8 is $240 and any tool rental for the project would bring you to around $300-$350. Most bedframes are at least that price for poor quality or way way more for the nicer ones so still a great budget project!

You could do it with half of the long pieces ( bigger spaces between beams) while retaining more than enough rigidity and strength. After all most beds have just two long walls and they work. This design is simple and aesthetic, but very, very inefficient.

However screws is a cost you did not add on your cost analysis which was about $40/box for me, not to mention that the short cuts were breaking despite the countersinking, not to mention the abuse on the wrist.
