I know a guy who lost about 30 lbs doing what you're doing with just a few differences (works out with free weights a couple times a week instead of just aerobics, brown rice instead of white and whole grain everything else). The same thing happened as far as losing several pounds right away and then leveling off for a bit. I think he just had to adjust and then he lost more. That said, it looks like you're on the right track. Thanks for posting this. I'm always curious about how successful people spend their time.

last week l listened to 4 of your honest men videos one after another l was so wound up. after that l wrote it down. and was able to move on, thanks for that. your blood pressure is within normal limits ,check your pulse when you are completely rested , it was a little high. well done for all the positive changes.

Weight loss is slow when in your 40s Rick.I'm in my late 40s and I eat and drink what I like,i counter that with doing a 30 min dumb bell work-out every other day and it does me wonders.I'm toned and have lost a wee bit of weight but my overall fitness has improved immeasurably, maybe give it a try.I also meditate last thing at night and it works for me.Failing all this, get a bottle down your neck.

You say you are having smaller portioned meals, are you getting enough carbs? I don't do caffeine, have reduced refined sugar intake, and went fully plant-based 4 months ago. I find that upping the amount of wholefoods & carbs I have has helped my energy levels, I feel much lighter and freer, and think more clearly. Feed the brain! :) Have you checked out Nutritionfacts.org channel, and dare I say Freelee (according to her you can eat plant carbs all day long if you wish & if you exercise, you don't want to damage your metabolism by having too few calories)??

You're probably building Muscle Rick if you're walking that much, don't forget Muscle is heavier than fat. Don't concentrate on your weight but judge the results by clothes fitting better and overall health improvements. Too much focus on weight.

I feel your pain with regards to weight. You used to ride a bike, if memory serves. The bike is the best form of exercise as it can encompass cardio & resistance training. Combine that with your treadmill workout & low sugar diet and the weight should fall off. My weight has ballooned to 16 st since giving up the bike, and I am planning a cycle regime that will get me back out there burning the calories.
Sugar is the Devil. Keep at it. You'll get there Rick

Greetings sir! Really enjoyed this one =D Just thought I'd mention, it's pretty awesome that you write for yourself, I used to do the same (Forum RPG), but to cut a long story short, I've now written a couple of books and self published them, didn't think I'd ever get to this point when I was just having fun but now I'm on to book number three. I guess what I'm trying to say is enjoy it, but see where it takes you, and if you ever need any help book-wise (not content, just the 'red-tape' side of things, covers, formatting, print, proof reading, etc), I'd be happy to help. All the best, have a good one! =D

The mineral zinc is important for testosterone production, and supplementing your diet for as little as six weeks has been shown to cause a marked improvement in testosterone among men with low levels. Also eat plenty of fresh vegetables and get plenty of exercise. If you decide to use a zinc supplement, stick to a dosage of less than 40 mg a day, as this is the recommended adult upper limit. Taking too much zinc can interfere with your body's ability to absorb other minerals, especially copper, and may cause nausea as a side effect. Eat healthy fats,
    Olives and Olive oil
    Coconuts and coconut oil
Butter made from raw grass-fed organic milk
Raw nuts, such as, almonds or pecans
    Organic pastured egg yolks
    Avocados
    Grass-fed meats
    Palm oil
    Unheated organic nut oils

I love stargate too Rick, I wish wish wish they never cancelled SGA.. it's easily my favorite. I kinda hate SGU because I feel like they killed SGA to make SGU. It's a decent series on it's own, but I can never forgive them for cancelling SGA! I wish netflix would bring it back. Did you know Joe Flannigan (Lt Col Sheppard) tried to buy the rights to SGA so he could keep making the show, but they turned his offer down.....!!

Hi Rick! Wanted to share with you a website I use to track nutrition, fitness and other life goals I want to achieve. Sparkpeople.com
Think you might find it of interest b/c you seem to like knowing details and it tracks nutrients, minerals and other things you can add - like you BP, pulse, blood sugar etc. It's been a great tool for me working with my doctor to reduce weight, gain fitness and see where I have vitamin/mineral deficiencies.
Since you're weaning yourself off sugar, you might want to track sugar levels. Would be interesting to see how much sugar is coming from the carbohydrates in your diet, ie. breakfast porridge, and rice with stir fry/curry dishes. And, how much protein you're taking in, and other things, like vitamin D. Another thing you might want to track is sodium. You're using canned goods instead of frozen, and you might find you're taking in more sodium as a result, even in organic products.
From tracking mine, and reviewing with doctor after blood panels were taken, I require supplements of Vit. D, potassium, and a multi-vitamin. I was not getting enough protein previously. Also, I require protein at breakfast, no carbs. Carbs quickly turn to sugar for me at that hour and leave me sluggish for balance of the day. B'fast for me is 2 eggs scrambled, a veg mixed in (spinach usually, currently asparagus), and 2T of cheese (feta, parm., cheddar, or dollop of greek yogurt). My b/f used to add savory spices to his. Cholesterol from eggs is not an issue from Dr's. perspective. Lunch is a mix of veggies: peppers, red onion, celery, & legumes - cannellini/white kidney beans and tuna or chicken. Dinner is veg & protein. For meal planning I have a schedule: Monday: Meatless, Tuesday: Tilapia or tuna/other fish. Wednesday: Vegetarian. Thursday: Pasta or rice w/veg & meat. Friday: Fish (not for religious reasons, but b/c it rhymes. LOL) Saturday: Beef. Sunday: Chicken. - Watching you has gotten me inspired to adhere to my menu planning more closely. Thanks!
Glad to see you adding artwork to Rick World too! : )

Hi Rick, nice to see a video of you again. Have you ever considered get educated about doing a proper muscle building diet and excercise lifestyle? That and a year later try TRT via your doctor (or sustanon 250mg (bi-)weekly) (yes, steroids. And NO, they're not bad for you in that amount) It will do much more for you than those weird diets, teas, powders and pills. The treadmill is nice, but it won't build you muscle or , and you can also walk outside in the beautiful English countryside. Get some sun, meet girls and friends. You seem a bit depressed, and if so, I wish you much better.

I noticed when I switched from having my usual eggs with spinach for breakfast (to muesli instead) I gained 5+ pounds... hard to say if it was the only reason though as in life it's very difficult to isolate variables! Definitely switching back though and I hope it works to let me get rid of those extra 5 (I think I automatically eat less the rest of the day, perhaps.) You look great, anyway :) Nice video!

Last year I had pneumonia and damaged my voice box.. It has taken over 12 months to get volume back in my voice and a reasonable sound quality still not like it was but getting there ( with the funny exercises) ... One of the things the speech therapist was adamant about was... no tea or acidic drinks or fruits as it did have an affect on the vocal chords.... If you really want to be healthy.. ditch the chemicals... anything ending in 'ol' is a fat ( so not good for the weight or cholesterOL )...and anything acidic is doing your vocal chords no favours... as for the oestrogen.. without it you will have other health issues ..and then end up self medicating for those... Eat well and regularly, exercise get out and about and keep up the positivity.... there is no 'quick fix'.. all you are doing is making some corporate very rich and the only healthy thing will be their bank balance....

Thanks for sharing a day with us Rick. And pleased to see you doing many of the things I keep telling myself I should be doing - especially cutting out all additional sugar.
One small tip, try doing what my Tai Chi master told me when I lived in China -
    * Basically that I should focus on improving my health and well-being first, rather than getting too fixated about my weight.
    * He said that, given time, if I do the former the body will sort out the latter.
    * But that we westerners were often in too much of a rush to loose weight, which resulted in bursts of over-exertion (new year resolutions), then loss of motivation (or worse - even injury), and finally go back to our old habits.
Great to see that you are clearly determined to get yourself healthier, and don't worry about any plateaus - after all it takes time for the body to adjust to a new life style change. ATB, Andy

Hi Rick, great video. with just walking, it will be difficult to continue to lose weight. Longer isn't always better especially when walking... you will need to create "overload". An increase in intensity will be needed. up the speed or incline, or walk with leg weights. Another good tip is to walk in the morning on an empty stomach. This forces your body to search for energy sources. if you have nothing in your belly, your body will burn fats and the tiny amounts of carbs that are stored in your muscles.

    • @MZONE3D
      @MZONE3D 8 років тому +1

I see you're walking uphill. You should work out your heart rate zones (65 & 80% of your max heart rate) and adjust the intensity to stay within these zones.
      anyway, good luck with it.

Here's my wakeup call on meditation. I used to be "freekie" when it came to meditation, I simply would not do it. THEN, I was sitting up on my bed thinking of coffee and what I had to do that day, when I realized I always leave the TV on, all night while I sleep! My first thought was, what in the h*ll did I just put in my brain all night? Since I have done that for many years, I realized I had been "meditating" all that cr*p, all this time!!! Gave me a new perspective of meditation for sure. If something is going to go into my brain while I'm sleeping, it better be something better than NCIS or murder shows. I still want to be selective about what I listen to, but I'm going to have to first learn how to get out of the habit of the sound of my TV. I hate it, because when I turn off the TV I actually feel like something is wrong or missing!! LOL Weird addiction huh?!! Anyway, at least I learned that I had a bad addiction, so I will be turning off my TV for a while, off and on, it runs 24 hrs. a day, and it's even in the other room. Try turning off something when you have been listening for years and years! It's not easy. I don't even really listen, it's having the sound! Right now my old songs make me cry because they remind me of my husband, and I hate todays music, so I'm in a real pickle. LOL Sorry, just had to share that. I loved this video, just visiting with a friend. I could swear that sometimes I'm sitting right there with you. Before I watched this video I was watching one about how to grow mung or soy beans, and thought you might like to see it. She grows 5 pounds at a time, but you could grow less if you want. I really like them and thought you would too. It's really easy and you don't need to put them in a sunny place either. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/-m74YYPVbWU/v-deo.html Bless, Sheila

isnt there copyright on that pic?

+bowler8 If you go onto 'tinterweb and find 'stock' photos I think they are open and free from copyright. Some of the examples Rick was using were 40 + years old so may be out of copyright anyway.

+grumpy poo most things whatever age they are will still be copyrighted, TV series, movies etc. that is why UA-cam remove them even if they're 40+ years old and you upload, photo sites always state that if the pics don't belong to you personally, they may not be able to develop them because of this

You should be able to lose more weight, the more carbs you cut out of your diet. It worked for me...BUT the price is, you get a little grouchy when you see other people eating bread and such...LOL. Plus I'm sure you are aware, that reaching a "plateau" is not unusual...just have to not let it drive you nuts, or the stress won't allow you to get past that "plateau"! Good luck mate, I'm sure you will find a good diet/activity groove that will get you where you want to be with your body balance! P.S. Good vibes go a long way with your goal, but I'm sure you know that anyway...lol

Hi Rick ... just found your channel recently and great just to watch the updates. I would advise to get a dog - reduce stress... you have to go out ... meet people ... company ... passenger in the van ... lose weight/ get fit . Do you not miss growing veg etc ? . Have you thought about a spiritual table/zone ... candles - incense. Love the video's of your travels to town's / campsite's ... Glastonbury was great. Take care ... Kate from Devon 💕

One way of meditating is to lie down or sit somewhere comfy, and simply listen. Keep listening to sounds and let the listening gradually spread outwards. If you think a thought, when you see it simply return to listening. :) Take care xxx

Something to try, after being on the treadmill, wrap the parts of your body you would like to see slim down a bit with plastic wrap or such. Keep it on until the sweat and heat makes the wrap slide around on your body or at least for an hour. It will keep the heat and can help with trying to lose weight. It's a craze in the U.S. right now.

you should take your sweatshirt off before you exercise, hope you let your heartbeat go back to regular beat before you stopped, then put your sweatshirt back on otherwise you could get a chill...watch the athletes or gymnasts

Hi rick have you lost any weight with the exercising ?

    • @rickvanman
      @rickvanman  8 років тому

Difficult to say for certain. It's definitely helping when used in conjunction with watching what I eat, and I've definitely dropped several percent body fat. I think if I keep at it, it will eventually start having an effect on the weight.
