I bought this wrecked C63 AMG months ago and began to repair and restore it. It ended up cheaper to convert it to a C63 Black series with a full body kit rather than buying oem parts. But the body work is the least of my issues when i take the amg out for its first drive.

Just to comment guys … the mesh on the front bumper is the same style mesh they use on the genuine Mercedes black series. Also Mercedes use the same spoiler. Just have a quick Google if you have never seen 👍🏼
I was just going to comment that. The front grille looks weird for some reason 😕
I had to Google image the spoiler but it’s spot on.
So yes, you are correct, original black series has the same one. However what is making it look off is the original black series has a line (little bend) in the center of the mesh on front section of bumper. Perhaps you could replicate this by bending the centre of the mesh? See the UK ones for sale on Autotrader, specifically the black one (it’s a lot easier to see) so what also might make it look slightly tacky IMO is this bend and perhaps the quality of the actual mesh? Perhaps call mercedes ask for the price for the original one? Or the mesh on left side of bumper (perhaps cheaper to buy and compare) just a thought!
@@muratmo7054 tbh bro I’ve seen original black series in the flesh and there’s really not enough difference for me to be bothered about that
The grill looks good matt and good decision on the spoiler 👌🏼 😎🏴🏴🏴
A video 2 days ago, a video today and a video tomorrow. Dream come true
And this ones 23 mins😄😄
You will enjoy tomorrow’s video 😅
Unfortunately will be Sunday mate
@@MatArmstrongbmx 👀🔥
@@EVERYTHINGBMW wetsang Mat😅
I think the lower front bumper mesh would look better if it were the same style as the grille itself. Mesh looks a bit 1990s
They use the same mesh on the genuine black series bro
The mesh is the way it is on the OEM Black Series. It's usually just gloss black.
@@MatArmstrongbmx I stand corrected then. Looking forward to seeing the wheels on. Keep the great work up.
Still looks like rabbit cage
@@MatArmstrongbmx did you respray it black?
WOW, soon as you decromed the rear boot strip the wing spoiler looks a marriage made in heaven. before that it looked ridiculously out of place.
When you put the brake shoes in, first put the adjuster with the spring in between. You can wip it over the hub and than do the springs that clamp it against the dust cover. Then do the final spring using a cut up flat head screwdriver and use the hub as a leverage unit. That's for me the easiest way I use almost every day.
Hey Mat, just a heads up, i would check the brake pipes that are under the undercovers by the cills. They heavily corrode and fail!! Very common on all C class models
Yea shit job too do and bleeding them
You made a very good point. I had problems with these before leaking brake fluid 😬
They are money pits the one thing the other one is ready to break
Said this in the last video but when using the Rtv sealant you should apply it then offer the sump up to the car thread in a few bolts by hand to hold it, then put all the bolts in and don’t torque them down. Leave it for an hour for the rtv to set then torque the bolts down
Good advice 👍
What Jacob said. If u tighten it down when RTV is soft it basically just squeezes out and doesn't create a seal. So wait till its a little more set and rubbery like an actual gasket.
Pretty sure it says that on the back of the box.
Cheers lad
The absolute determination, sheer will and "nothing gonna stop me" vibe from Mat is incredible, seriously. For someone who does this as a hobby. As I'm currently stuck in a spiral of depression, I started to watch Mats E46 project, I car which I adore and rinsed through all the videos, liking on the way. Then another favourite, c63 AMG! Rinsed through the videos. Has kind of given me an uplift in my mind, inspiration or something. Still in the dumps but much much better watching these videos, especlially as I love cars and tinkering around, than the negative reality TV trash on TV. Thanks Mat, can only wish you much more success in your life.
Hope you've continued to pull out of the 'dumps' 💪💪🙂
Tip for fitting the spoiler, remove the boot lining before drilling, never know whats under there 😉
Always great content and always amazing projects. I love that you buy cars which firstly are the ones people think are unobtainable, and secondly, seem borderline criminal with the amount of labour and manufacture limitations the cars need/have... but you pull it off. You prove that anything you perceive and more is entirely possible. Respect.
The only thing that's stopping it is yourself,
... and algorithms... yeah, definitely algorithms.
Hey Mat, I had a coolant problem last week on my merc, a diesel one though, however what was wrong with it was the fuel filter housing broke, its a common fault with mercs, the part is around £40, i dont know what the price would be on a C63, it might be a good idea to check the part even if that isnt the problem.
REAR WING: as beautiful and functional as a Christmas tree growing through the roof.
Another great video Mat, wasn’t sure when the wing was first fitted but when you put the tape on the chrome boot trim it made a huge difference and it’s growing on me. I would have gone with the duck tail personally but car customising is all about your preference. Would like to see a video where you talk us through your tattoos aswell. Always try to see what they are in your videos but never manage to. I have a good few myself so always interested to see what others have and why. Keep up the longer videos, best channel on UA-cam. 👍
That black series wing looks so good on the car and really completes the black series look and plus I never really seen a saloon C63 with a wing on the back. I mostly see the saloons and some coupes with ducktail spoilers
The car looks absolutely sick, on a personal level the rear spoiler looks out of place, but I totally get it that it's a personal preference just don't do it for me as a daily family car. Otherwise everything else about the car you've nailed it 💯.
This channel is just food for my soul really, I mean c'mon. I melt everytime I see a notification from it.
Looking good! Will look even better once finally painted and spacers on to fill the gaps. That's when all of the spoiler and body kit will look on point 👌. The mesh looks good! Maybe spray the mesh a darker black to flow in more? All teething issues on the first proper run, it'll all come together.
Top tip for fitting those retainer springs that hold the shoes to the backing plate, get youraelf a long reach tyre valve key makes life much easier.
thats the thing with owning a c63 Matt the coolant must be checked everytime you start the car and do not give it revs until the engine is warmed up , just a quick tip from a ex c63 special edition owner . plus that comp that you ran that i won i did not get a reply lol, i understand you are busy . from the disabled chap.
The reason high performance cars and commercial vans use an inboard handbrake is to save warping the discs.
If you were driving hard then and applied a handbrake that acted on the calliper the hot pads squeezed against the discs could well warp them.
Hi Mat, love your work M8 and the Cars you rebuild. The C63 is looking epic and I think the rear spoiler looks great. And you and your girl look great together ❤️ So keep up the great work and can't wait to see the C63 painted and all finished. From Scotty in Sydney Australia 🇦🇺... God bless 🙌
My fave UA-cam channel for sure. Loving your style and the journey. Don’t change your format Mat !! 🤩🙏🏼👍🏻
Mat, I am absolutely on board with this whole build, and I have to say that you are doing such an amazing job!
Also, I fully realize that you are the one to decide whatever you want to do with it, I’m not telling you what to do at all!
But please, could you take another look at the dechroming on the front of the car? To me having the star in silver, but the surround in black makes it look a bit incomplete.
I do wanna say, such an awesome build, absolutely loving all the content you’ve been putting out!
The star in the front is a sensor not a badge mate
Thanks Mar for the super entertainment!
Please note that the suspension components must be screwed tight in the compressed state. Otherwise, the rubber mounts are permanently under tension and quickly break.
Nice sounds like a beast, unsure on the wing though, think the mesh would look better sprayed black!! Happy the videos are getting longer though 😉
Keep going Matt, you got this. It’s just going to make driving it that much sweeter once it’s fixed.
Hi Mat love your channel, I used to tint earthmoving equipment and removing the old tint left the sticky residue behind. I used Avery Adhesive Remover, it made the job so easy, it is great for anything that leaves behind glue residue. Keep up the builds, looking forward to the next one.
mat you have seriously done such an amazing job ive watched this whole build and all the range rover videos from when you brought the cheapest range rover im 10 years old and im very keen in cars and one day become a mechanic you have given me so much inspiration keep and doing this great work!
Mat, quick tip when installing brake shoes is to cover the friction surface with masking tape. This means that you don't contaminate the friction surfaces with grease when refitting them. After installation just pull off the tape and the friction surfaces are nice and clean. As a Golf R owner I really enjoy the content of your channel.
just clean with a degreaser or brake cleaner and avoid all the masking work..
1000% pointless, clean with brake cleaner at the very most. The minute the handbrake is used it will grind off whatever grease is on there anyway.
I hope you compressed the suspension before tightening that inside suspension arm bolt. it's a captured rubber bushing, if you tighten it while the suspension is fully extended, you could begin to tear it when you put the car back on the ground because you are overextending it's range of motion. just a thought.
Yes , it should be torqued when the wheels are bearing the weight of the car ,
or the hub should be raised to normal ride height , otherwise it won't last very long.
Mat, I think you’re brilliant! You do what you seem to love: fixing and customizing cars … and you can do it for a living. What about getting the cheapestJaguar XK8 or XKRS and then a F-type. I’d love to see what you’d do with them. Also an Aston Martin DB9. This last one us actually quit easy to work on and there are some really cool kits for it.
One of my high mileage w204 used to do the same thing. Blow of every other day, never overheated, got to temperature and then eventually blew off dropping the temperature. I did a head gasket test seemed fine. Although my exhaust used to gush out alot of what looked like water. Might want to have a look at yours. I did eventually break the car for parts, sold the engine complete and IT continues to run fine 2 years on so i dont think its your headgasket. Good look anyway fingers crossed be nothing major. I look forward to your diagnosis.
This car is going to look insane cant wait for it to be done 😍 Great job Mat as always
My heart broke a little when you pulled out the big wing! The duck tail would have looked so much cleaner.
Sometimes less is more Matt but can’t wait to see it finished epic job
Indeed… 😕
Hey Mat, check the cars history if you can to see if the head bolts were ever replaced/upgraded to the second version they made for this engine. Its possible you have the first gen of head bolts in there still and those had a problem where they would weaken/rust and lose their tension thus letting coolant into the head gasket. Mercedes upgraded the head bolts to a different part number once enough of the 63 engines had these head bolt failures and it is worth popping off your valve covers and checking.
Hopefully a head gasket/head bolts arent the problem, but i would research the vin for past history to check if that was ever done and if not, id say pretty confidently that that is what's causing the coolant to overheat.
test out the canard parking sensor interference on the rear sensors? tape a piece of cardboard roughly the same shape in about the same area and see if it gets in the way or not :)
Thats one mad max looking c63 with flared arches and wing. Looks sick mate 🤞 all the issues are minor
Keep up the hard work bro!! Car is looking mean af 🖤 loving it! You will figure out the problem and be at the paint shop in no time! 👊🏼
De-chrome tape is great stuff 👍
Hope you get this running properly you deserve it. Great video/content yet again. Finished this playlist now. Watched in total 4 full playlists so far. More to watch. Can I catch up?
Those sumps are prone to warping and if the engine has been tapped on the bottom then it could be bent. When you take it off put a straight edge on it. Luckily they're cheap enough. I get just as excited seeing them all coming together at once now 👌
Mat God loves a tryer. Can't wait to see this beast finished. Great job so far 👏. You should be very proud of yourself 👍
The (boyracer) spoiler was already out of place when AMG sold it. But still a amazing tribute build!
love these videos mate. With having PTSD but also trying to sort my own project out for when i can drive its so nice to see honesty, positivity, fun and enthusiasm. thanks!
That was a tough call with the spoiler, fair play though sometimes you just gotta wing it 😜
'Wing it'. Very good!
Nice.
Beginning to look really sick Mat. Hopefully you can sort these issues out and get it on the road. Looking forward to seeing it painted up as well mate 👍🏻
One of the things "cheeky chappie" Matt demonstrates is not only (how lucky he is to have) his fizzing energy and good vibes - but that you should not judge a book by its cover - how many casual observers would assume that Matt wouldn't even notice a slightly shonky panel fit, never mind inform us that it's vexing to him and that a fix remains on the to do list - a perfectionist in other words!😆
Just seen him and I must say the sound of the car on this video does not do it justice as it sound absolutely amazing and look awesome can believe he’s only around the corner from me keep up the good work your absolutely smashing it
Mat uploading really makes my day honestly 💞💞💞💪💪💪💪
Came in clutch again. Mat never disappoints!
Love your videos! I’ve been watching you since your Audi TT You inspired myself and a friend with your work So we just brought a bmw E36 but I think it’s way to far gone to repair 😞 we will be having a good look at it next week if it’s to far gone we maybe breaking it for parts
Best choice for the wing! I was hoping you’d go for this when you put the vote up previously 🙌🏻🙌🏻
the wing looks better on a coupe then on a 4door tbh it does look extra, better off sticking with the original more subtle one that u removed.
Agree!
How do you deal with tax and insurance for builds like this? I imagine the car as no MOT so you cannot tax it then. But equally, you're not going to be driving a car without insurance to a bodyshop. Just wondering how you get around that?
I was thinking the same. I watch all the videos but dont remember anything about MOT or insurance. I'm sure your all good just was wondering how you did it.
Matt, thing is not to get to despondent, happens to the best. Your fault diagnosis sounds good, guess delving in will tell. Keep up the good work, you`re an inspiration to those who battle similar projects.
The Black Series didn’t have front sensors any way. And that wing will work once the cars goes through paint. Keep persevering with it Matt. I trust you’ll end up with a great car in the end.
The wing looks good, made the right choice between that and the ducktail I think. Fingers crossed it's not a head gasket that's blown.
Are you 12 ? That wing is so gross. Nobody uses those anymore. Go to any car meet. You'll see maybe 2 guys with them and everyone else laughing at them
I love how passionate Matt is for cars. Even when they bite him hard hahaha
Great video my old man has one of these in carbon grey blacked out they are immense machines! took my old mate out in it who has an m4 and he thought it was quicker but I think it was the torque that surprised him! 😃
Mat i use bluetac or plastisene to find where to drill holes roll a little ball the size of a pea and push it on the wing holes turn the wing the right way up place where it is going to be bolted and push down then lift up slowly the flattened off balls will stay on the boot then drill in the middle of the imprint where the balls had gone through the wing holes also try using hylomar m instead of rtv originally made by rolls royce heaps better than rtv i used it on my bmw rocker cover gasket no leak that says it all cheers from down under
I’m a fan of the wing, suits it well. Will look sick once it’s all together with some nice alloys too! 👊🏼
Can’t do a full black series conversion without the black series wing 😅🤷♀️
@@MatArmstrongbmx buzzing to see the final outcome, been following you since the Audi S5 and honestly mate best UA-camr going.
Hi mate great build but the the big spoiler doesn’t suit it the older one suits it way more as it’s a saloon hope you understand
This is my favorite built between the ones right now it is the most exciting to see the final result😍😍
And I believe you will keep it for a long time
Can't wait to see what paint you choose for the C63. I think Solar Beam Yellow would be a cool choice.
Yeah that wing is gonna be a no from me dawg.
If it's gonna have a wing, it needs one that is lower and wider
Can’t do a black series conversion without a black series wing I’m afraid
I’m kind of liking the wing! And these oil leaks are giving me deja vu 🥴
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the C63🤞
Hi pal, just a thought, I did it with myA class, I tinted the MB 3 point star to darken it and look meaner, doesn't affect the collision sensor and looks a lot better imo.
Great content as usual. Thanks for show that parking brake part. Mine has the same issue.
Dude, trust me. That spoiler looks good in the bin. A carbon fiber lip as spoiler would look way better, and fit in more with the car design.
Nah not for me I’m afraid. Maybe on a oem+ car but a black series with a ducktail is just odd
@@MatArmstrongbmx it's your car. So if it looks cool to you, just keep it.
you mean a slim duck tail style spoiler right?
@@denaco right.
Mate, throw that spoiler in the bin. It looks too tacky and too tall for this car. A lip would look way nicer.
I agree but it is his car
Had a similar issue on my C63 the radiator had split in the top right hand corner where the coolant pipe attaches, they just become brittle over time.
Would have thought the cooling system has a pressure relief valve somewhere that should blow before a pipe does. Maybe try running waterless coolant. I reckon the top coolant hose not clamping on properly 🤞
It does.
Hey Matt, can y do a video about how much you have put into the c 63 Amg I think it would be a great idea and a video I’d be very interested to watch.
Hope it is an easy fix for you ..as for the wing. I genuinely don't like it but if it wasn't as high, then maybe it would blend in better. Again, your car and your choice. Just happy to watch your videos with anticipation of what's next.
Use genuine vw sealant, i resealed one of those sumps with merc sealant and it’s crap. Redone it with vw sealant and worked mint.
Thermostat are common on them aswell, normally log a fault code / engine light with stuck thermostat code. Very easy to replace the whole housing @ the front of the engine
If you get the sensor positions from a productionC63 black bumper and the calibration for the parking software it should allow for the canards if they are in the same position as a production C63 black
Great job on the tricky handbrake shoes in the rear disk a number of cars have this complicated set up. You could step up the presentation of the underside components by cleaning & painting would go well with your new disks & red calipers?
Mat, love the car. I'm in a similar situation with a 2006 CLS55 AMG that has been tuned to 900bhp. Many elements disconnected...trying to solve and maintain at least 650bhp. I love the wing; however, I think I'll put a lip spoiler and a wing...
I was buzzinggg sounds like a beast, gutted about the end but atleast you know what you have got to look forward to when she’s fixed your I never comment but I watch all your videos 🇬🇧❤️*highly recommend his older videos aswell*
The parking brake shoes are quite an easy job, put them on with the adjuster and smaller spring already assembled, then put the springs in to hold the shoes to the backing plate, hook the bigger spring on at the top then push it down using a big Philips screwdriver 🤙🏻
Mat, that thing is looking and sounding sick!!!! teething problems will definitely be worth it... can't wait to see it when she (eventually) hits paint! Keep up the good work pal 🤙✌️
had the same issue with my C200 w205. coolant burst, changed thermostat, water pump & radiator. didn't resolve the issue. happened again within two months. whole car stripped in the garage round 2.
Wow man awesome series so far on the c63! Can’t Waite to see it finished. New to the channel and love it. Man you get to learn so much on doing these cars. Great job!
I bet at Mat's palce there is like dozens of random objects that are just wrapped in car wrapping lol
Btw. regarding the front side parking sensors you don't realy want, I'm not sure how these exactly work, but I think it was ultrasound, and so those sensors are small speakers/microphones? and so disconnecting should result in lack of response, but then there are probably some protection features to trigger the alarm when the sensor is disconnected for safety, and what speakers also are - a resistor, so they probably not only look for response but also for some resistance, so if you slap resistor of a specific value you should be able to trick it to ignore those two sensors by replacing them with resistors.
Great video as always ....I can't believe how far you've come from watching your first video. It feels like i've known you for twenty years not 3 (nearly). Keep it up your a friggin marvel
I still think the boot needed pulling together. Dechrome the badge, the identifiers and maybe even swap the bolts on the spoiler for black.
That said, Love the energy in all your videos you really show how much work goes into bringing these cars back
Check also if the clamp of the hose is tightening enough the hose. I had that problem on a Merc. and the hose was poping out
Next time you need to remove tape or adhesive, graphics or pinstripes on a vehicle try a caramel wheel. It’s like a rubber eraser that attaches to your drill. Low speed and go steady, zero paint damage and saves you huge amounts of time and effort. 🤙
Keep ‘em coming. Enjoying the vids Mate.
covering the chrome made such a huge difference!!!!
Hey, Loving the video! You a quick tip. When tightening arms always have the wheel under full load, As you lower the car down the rubber is going to twist.
Get a toffee wheel it’s brilliant for removing vynl and foam sticky stuff off metal pannels, but do not use on plastic pannels it will chew into it
great video as usual mate buy yourself a puffer kit you sample the gases in the header tank and if they change colour they indicate exhaust fumes in the cooling system
Great video! M156 has a few known issues (lots on the forums) hopefully it's not one of the big ones!
Don't give up on it it's going to look sick when everything is perfectly finished and i'll be here to watch happen 🔥🔥💪💪
Definitely something fishy/sharky about the mesh grille it’s seems maybe too thin and wavy anyway wishing you some good luck with the little issues , you have balls of absolute steel to be doing all this work and videoing/editing it all to a professional standard for everyone to see , hats off to you my friend 👍🏻
No the coolant hose is coming off cause you need a new engine mount I had the same issue every time you punch on it the engine goes up and the coolant hose comes off
One thing I love about your channel is you are consistent and you upload videos every 3.4 days its wonderful.
Now add a Titanium Exhaust on that C63 and smoke out those Tail lights 👌
buddy I look forward to your video every week .... you do a great job and I like that nothing spoils your mood ... keep up the good work and be always well .... friend from Greece
Loving the build, and spoiler suits it, the only thing i think would change with it, would be to lower the spoiler a bit.
Love this car so much. The wing is definitely the right one 😍 the sound it makes is unreal 🤭
