    My tip is to give the build plate and prints a quick dunk in a prewash bucket before you do the polish wash in the wash and go.
    You get better results, less gunk up of the wash and go bucket and extended the wash liquor life in the W&G.
    You could buy a suitable DC extension cord to add length to one side of the splitter cable.
    I've been running my Mercury Plus for 2 years and a Mercury X for 1 year exclusively with water. There is Zero corrosion and I've just took both spinners (magnetic followers) out to check just now. It's a 30 second task with a 2mm Hex to check.
    The spinner body is PTFE with 4X completely encased magnets in the spinner (2X for the Plus). Design is the same and they mount to a PTFE carrier with a Stainless steel nut glued to the based of the tub. The spinner in held in place by a single Stainless Steel bolt and washer through to the nut in the PTFE carrier.
    The mating surface is PTFE to PTFE (no bearing), it's extremely simple and ultimately due to the materials used corrosion wont be and isn't an issue. Maybe people are confusing this with other wash stations with bearings and metal spinners.. Anycubic?

    Thanks for the video! I’m new to 3D printing and I wasn’t sure if I should buy this. The review really convinced me to get one. I can’t wait to get everything setup and start printing. Thanks again!

    with the new station, it would be nice to see a workflow video, showing the process from print is finished to print is ready for paint

    My set was likely the best accessory I've bought since going to the Saturn just over a year ago - print, drop build plate in, do the hot water support removal and then cure - so much cleaner!

      Yeah it really helps to prevent mess getting everywhere.

      Thanks for this video. I wish the full build plate got the Saturn 4 fit. I don't know if I should wait and hope they make something for that printer or buy this and use it a bit differently.

    The UV wand is also very useful for cleaning up spills

    Presumably you could get an extension for one of the split cables (im sure they do 12/24v extension cables)? They really need to start making the mesh finer on those baskets, small parts just fall through those holes.

    • @GrayScalpMiniatures
      @GrayScalpMiniatures  Рік тому

      Yeah definitely agree with the mesh thing! This one isn't that bad compared to some, but I always end up trying my best to make sure the raft in my slicer overlaps for every single model, so that way it all comes off in one big bit.

    Thanks for the review.
    While your video appears to show the build plate in the washer with the knob in it, Elegoo's website for the XS bundle says this...
    "Mercury XS Bundle is perfect match with Mars 3 Pro 3D Printer and Saturn 2 3D Printer, but it need to remove the build plate's handle before washing the Saturn 2's prints."
    So I'm confused as to how it fits.
    My goal would be to be able to put the whole Saturn 2 build plate assembly into the wash unit with he model still attached. I do that now with my current/smaller wash and cure for a smaller resin printer, and it's super convenient.

    • @GrayScalpMiniatures
      @GrayScalpMiniatures  Рік тому

      That's really weird! So you can't put the lid on when the Elegoo Saturn 2 build plate is in the wash, but it still washes with the lid off. I'm guessing that's what they mean.

      @@GrayScalpMiniatures good deal.
      Does the IPA wash the entire build plate, or is some sticking up above the IPA?

  • @thedourkin
    @thedourkin Рік тому +5

    I have one of these and it's one of the best purchases I've made, the UV wand is super useful. It's worth noting however that if you use water washable resin DO NOT put water in the wash tank because unlike IPA it will corrode the bolts which hold the spinner mechanism together.

    • @GrayScalpMiniatures
      @GrayScalpMiniatures  Рік тому

      I’ve heard that a few times before. I wonder if they’ll make a specific one for water washable resins in the future considering it’s growing in popularity.

      Will adding around 10% IPA to 90% water help?

    • @thedourkin
      @thedourkin Рік тому +3

      No, there are videos elsewhere on UA-cam explaining how to swap out the components in the spinner mechanism for non-corrosive alternative.

    • @RocketMagnetUK
      @RocketMagnetUK Рік тому +3

      I've just posted about this issue and this does not apply to the Mercury Plus nor the Mercury X.
      TLDR is ive been running mine for 1-2 years respectively on water with absolutely no evidence of corrosion (Tap water with ~7ppm Fluoride in it!). See other long post for reasoning if you want any more info or remove the spinner in yours as its 30s job with a 2mm hex to see for yourself.

    In terms of washing I can't live without the machine, I still favour natural curing. I leave my models on a shelf to cure in ambient light for a few days, keeps the resin from going brittle especially for Wargaming

    • @GrayScalpMiniatures
      @GrayScalpMiniatures  Рік тому

      That’s interesting. Might have to do a test on a batch of models to see how it turns out

      @@GrayScalpMiniatures I'm in Australia, so take that with a grain of salt as we have sun year round

    • @Dark0Storm
      @Dark0Storm Рік тому

      The only way resin can be less brittle is if it has not reached it's fully cured state (curing is just uv creating a chemical reaction bonding elements in the resin in to complex chains - once all these chains are formed the curing process stops as there is nothing more to bond. What is happening here is it is not getting exposed to enough uv to fully cure, meaning not all the bonding has completed - it is the unbonded elements of the resin that are toxic and the bonding process which makes resin non-toxic.
      Not only does this potentially expose you to slightly uncured resin, the extra flexibility from under-curing won't last as the models will continue to be exposed to uv and eventually reach their fully cured state - so any benefit is going to be temporary.

      So my mark 2 pro printer broke recently, amd I bought the Saturn 3. I don’t print a lot of tall stuff…mostly miniatures, but I wanted to fit more on the plate so I went bigger. You kinda mentioned that maybe someone like me could go with a smaller wash and or cure station. What would you recommend?
