Man I found this cover in my sophomore year of high school and was obsessed with it. I'm in my third year of college and decided to come back, thanks for the good memories!
Typical when I look for these vids im looking for just the music. Most singers are just way to (to many things to mention) for me. But you sir are the realest, seemingly most grounded singer iv ever seen on the youtube. Leave it to a bloody hipster...Thanks for the show :D
Thanks I think. If I'm covering a song, especially an oldie like this one, I want to honor the spirit of it first and foremost. Sometimes less is more.
I have only just this day discovered that Banjo Ukeleles EXIST. It is the interment my SOUL HAS LONGED FOR! ;-p This video has officially further fueled my obsession. Who needs to eat. I need one of these NOW!
Your version and playing takes me back to Washington Sq. Park, in Greenwich Village, NYC where we learned from each other and had a great time doing so on the Sunday afternoons so far away. Just purchased a tenor banjo and this is going to be the first song I want to learn on it. Thanks for posting this.
This is fantastic! Will you do a lesson for this? I can't quite make out the finger picking pattern you do in between the choruses. Or could you simply gives us the tab to it? That's would be fantastic.
Brother, PLEASE make a tutorial on this! You could sell it, and I would buy it! I think allot of people would. That way your hard work composing this masterpiece wouldn't be for nothing. This is really good and I hope you make a tutorial!
I love your version of this song I listen to it everyday its brilliant! I really want to learn this on my uke but all the tutorials are different to this one :( but this is so good, definition of good music just then :)
I find the playback speed feature so helpful here on UA-cam. I listen first at normal speed, then at 75% and even slower in the hard parts! Great job, sir!
So here's the deal. I am far from musically inclined but have been looking for an instrument simple enough for me to play, I have a uke and I'm getting along but want to try something new and stumbled on the banjolele. Go to UA-cam and here's Eric playing one of my all-time favorites. Yep, I'm going for the banjolele and will spend as much time as possible learning to play Whiskey In the Jar even if only with 10% of Eric's skill.
Is that a home made banjolele i see.it looks like a tone deaf music hand drum.i only noticed as ive build one my self it sounds rich and has a nice lovely full tone.your playing was very good tooand your singing a very big well done.great .and thanks for sharing your talent. Chris
Hey, Eric. Sweet video. Huge fan of that song. I'm really thinking about buying one of these Banjoleles. Assuming the chords are the same as a uke, can you tell me what chords you played this song on? Aspiring to be able to do something similar. Super grateful.
+Danny Walsh the chords on the banjolele are the same, and I believe this is the tab to the song, but I a, not entirely sure. Good luck! ukulelehunt.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/kilgarywhiskey.pdf
+Danny Walsh Hey dude, yeah the banjo uke is just a ukulele with a banjo pot. I'm playing it in C so: C, Am, F, C, G for the verses and: G, C, F, C, G, C for the refrain. My strumming pattern is like: thumb on the 4 (topmost) string, up, down, up. I'm putting a little hammer-on after the thumb pluck in kinda alternating strums. It's easier to describe this stuff in person but that's the gist of it. Made this video on a lark five years ago and I wish I'd explained it better then!
Hey! I'm a beginner but I think i kind of found a piece for the tab for the very intro: A:----3-2-0----------------3------3-------- E:----------------1-0-1---------------------- C:-0------------------------------------------- G:-------------0----------0-----0-------0--- That's all, correct me if you think it's wrong, and feel free to continue.
PS- I would pay $20 straight up for an in depth youtube vid tutorial on how to play this one song the way you do.
Me too
I want the name of his tailor 👍
Me too! Please make this a reality
Every year without fail I watch this and it never leaves me without a smile on my face. Well done.

You have no idea how much I wish I was Irish so I could sound like this without even having to try.
I don’t think this guy is Irish tbh
He’s american try listening
I would love a tutorial on the strum you are using there. It sounds great but I can't see what you are doing.
i guess thats a boom-ditty. Basicly a DDU but in the first D you play only the top string.
I think he's using a clawhammer strum pattern. I use this on 5 string banjo but haven't had a lot of luck on the ukulele.
Welcome home, future banjolele acolyte.
You sound and play great. Thanks so much for sharing!
