I like these long form videos Sterling. I couldnt really understand and visualize how the diving bell works from the shorts but this made it so much easier.
The diver at the door opening didn't suffer. From his perspective in fact he had the most peaceful death. It takes around 100 ms iirc for pain to be perceived. The decompression here was INSTANT, likely way faster than the time he would perceive any pain. Being instantly turned into mush just doesn't leave enough time for your body to process anything. For us, it's horrifying. For him, it was a simple lights out... which is still horrifying but at least he did not suffer. I'd rather be instantly turned into mush than suffer agony after being fatally shot. RIP...

I’ve just researched it, and turns out man at 3:30 isn’t actually truls hellevik who died here, he was actually a man (I believe from Scotland) named Alex Mitchell who died in 1975 after watching his favourite tv show, then laughing for 25 minutes straight, then having a heart attack. No clue how he got confused with the guy who died here.

Honestly i'd like to be a saturation diver for like an year but only if everyone swears on whatever they value the most that they know enough to make sure everyone's safe.
Everyone who died in this incident likely suffered little if at all. The divers who died from their blood boiling were likely unaware of what was happening because their brains were also boiling. Either way this happened in fractions of seconds as well. While the third divers death seemed the most gruesome, which it was, the one who actually suffered was the only survivor who was one of the dive tenders and he had many broken bones and other injuries from being hit by the diving bell.
Hard to comprehend 4 people sleeping in there one moment and then less than a second to go from sleeping to getting your whole body sucked through a tiny little space, so small you get shot out the other end like mush, all that in a second, live human beings able to talk and smile and laugh and then the next second mush not even time to wake up just straight up send them to the next place.
30 years ago i read a Mack Bolan novel. In the story, Mack captured a drug dealer and placed him in pressure chamber/iron lung sort of thing. Mack boosted the pressure for a few hours before he began an interrogation. Mack was able to illicit information by controlling the pressure with purges and recharges,,,,,,, At the conclusion of the interrogation, Mack left the man in such a state that his brain was severely damaged.
