Our garage roof has a lot of rotten sheeting and the first ice/snow storm we got let to the dave's demise including the soffit, fascia sub fascia, gutter, downspouts, and all that.
I managed to bolt in some decent sistered rafter tail repairs but ended up just screwing in so.e pine and mdf boards to keep the brunt of the elements and critters more importantly out.
Will come back to this when the weather gets a bit nicer so I can properly fix everything.

Started at the top of the gable end bending the panel in the middle and work my way down both sides. Makes it even in both directions. Would like to know how you finish the top of the gable with the facia and any tricks to keep things from buckling in direct sunlight if possible. It seems to flatten out as it cools ( thermal expansion sucks), but it seems to loosen the nails over time.

Thank you so much! As a homeowner having my entire house re-sided, including soffit & fascia, and getting all sorts of "explanations" 🥴 as to why something doesn't look right, this is Gold! Just like Math...order of operations. I have been cringing everyday with the "work" (I use that term loosely) that is being done. I wish I could do it myself, but I like being close to the ground. 🤣 It seems that 1" fold under is standard for fascia, but dude is using 1.5" probably because most of the soffit pieces are cut skewed and he's trying to cover it up. Then the reveal doesn't line up with any connecting J-channel. 🤦‍♀️ I just want to cry. 😒 Ugh! Asked why the overlap on the fascia long side was not pointing to the rear of the house for a smooth line of sight, but the vinyl siding overlap is facing the rear. He says it doesn't matter because you're going to put gutters up, right? I told him it should be consistent regardless. You can still see the overlaps under the soffit. Ok, I'm done now. 🤣🤣🤣 And, thanks again. Your videos are so helpful. 👍🇺🇸

Good video man. I was a siding installer for 12 years, worked solo about 99% of the time. Specialized in gables and overhang using aluminum and steel, no vinyl. I used slightly different tools and methods but end up with a similar result. It's always good to see someone else who really knows the craft.
Tip for when your soffit ends right at the peak of the gable: Break off the first 4" section of that last piece by scoring it with your knife. Do it on the first line of the valley in the rib, so that the valley stays in place. Use the valley to lock into the previous piece of soffit. Now that last piece will die 4" from the peak instead of on the peak.
