baddie isn’t bad at all, but it’s not title track material in my opinion.
Yes, it’s just a very good b-side. If it was just a b-side on the album, I feel like most people would have loved it, but because it carries the responsibility of a title track, people can’t help but compare it to the ‘monsters’ that were the previous ones, so ofc this little cute bop doesn’t stand a chance. I feel the same way with Off The Record. Either Way is perfect as a pre-release, the era just needed a stronger main title. Kinda sad that the divisive discourse around Baddie overshadows just how good this album is overall... if people just put aside the ‘3 title tracks’ thing and simply gave the project a fair chance, they would find that the quality of their music has no gone down by any means. It’s just as good as ever, the album is just missing a REAL IVE title track.

I disagree with the IVE review, I think the songs are good, it’s just that they are not title track material for IVE’s usual standard. If all these songs were just b-sides, most people would have liked them more, but as title tracks they are just not as strong as their previous ones. But if you put that aside and just treat the album as a ‘main title track-less’ project, overall it’s actually really good. But anyways, I think they’ve slayed enough this year, they can afford this one.
