Top of the line and great detailed video. Just a note for those wanting a short cut with the partial water pump replacement like this, I didn't drain my radiator or remove any cooling hoses. I just loosened the water pump, let it drain into a big pan, expect 1 gallon or so, then removed the pump. It easily fits by all the hoses and you know exactly how much to replace if your remaining fluid is good. A bit tighter to maneuver around but honestly very doable faster and fewer tools.
Superb video! No annoying music! Excellent detailing! The man who said the Escape is easy to work on should try changing out the alternator! Thank you for a VERY professional tutorial.
This is great video , really on of a kind of rare really detailed video for everybody , not including any intro parts of shitty ads , just pure help ,thanks a lot man !
Hope it helped, Rogue. Yes, I have a 2004 guinea pig Escape (with a blown engine) in my garage that these videos come from...more will come. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for the video. I'm about to install the new water pump. The one I got wouldn't spin free handed when I tightened the bolts down. So I'm taking the part back to O'Reilly's
Thank you...so glad it helped you out. The hope is that the vids will help someone successfully complete a project, especially if they have never done anything like it before. Thanks for watching!
The water pump on a Taurus 01 DOHC is identical and I recently replaced it. I did so by removing the battery ,battery tray and belt tensioner pulley ,as well as the splash guard underneath the motor. I did not disconnect any hoses or remove the water pump housing. I just removed all of the bolts from the top and side access. I did this when it was 35 degrees out was not able to scrape off the old gasket but I did use permatex gasket maker , water glycol resistant. I slid the old water pump out from underneath and slid the new one in from underneath as well . Reinstalled all the bolts and pulley tensioner and there have been no leaks. It turned out well.
thank you for this excellent video. I have just 2 questions. Is there a specific water pump brand you recommend to use? and 2. what is a good "recommended" interval to replace the waterpump?
The short twisted hose that connects right there to a vertical connection in the "valley". I'll call it a coolant transfer hose. It has "exploded" three times in the past 3 years. It is the most difficult hose ever to replace. I replaced the thermostat and refilled distilled water and no water would flow into the radiator from the bottom of reservoir while engine not running, only if filled all the way through top hose. I waited and waited and nothing. Started the car, turned on the heat, likely 30 minutes, no coolant opened up and flowed through the engine. Turned off the heat, coolant in reservoir started boiling, overflowed, turned the heat back on and finally I saw the thermostat open because coolant sucked out of overflow. Poured some more water into reservoir and coolant opened up one more time after a good boil and steam from the reservoir. My thinking was maybe thermostat was bad but I'm afraid I don't think that is it and that short, twisted, transfer hose will no doubt "explode" again within a year. Do you think it could be the water pump causing extreme pressure in this one coolant hose? I've asked now 2 mechanics why this hose keeps exploding and they don't give me an answer. Thanks in advance.
so there is a hose on the back of the water pump that comes down to a plastic tube just above the o2 sensor wire. what is that hose called or could i just use any high pressure hose? a friends popped the hose right after the water pump outlet and im having trouble finding the exact hose to replace. this one has swelled and feels jelly like. never felt a hose like that.
I've done it in the past with no problems. But, you have to be careful not to put too much on, and let the sealer skin over, so there is no oozing inside the pump or housing. This can cause blockage and cooling problems down the road. Thanks for watching, Corey!
I have a 2005 Ford Escape AWD v6 3.0L, it doesn't have a pulley/tensioner. I'm having a really hard time installing the pump because the belt is working against me. I cannot get the three long fasteners into their dedicated holes. Am I missing something?
You've got what they call a strectchy belt. I have been meaning to do a video on that as well. Later models have these without a mechanical tensioner. There are videos on how to replace those. The best thing to do is cut it off, and put a new one on...think about it. It was stretched to get it on, stretched to get it off, and then it will be stretched again to get it back on. That would lose some tension. Best to cut off the old and replace with a new one. Zip ties are used to get the new one on. This vid may help ua-cam.com/video/PJ0y71t_pbg/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
I like your videos to it makes things easy for me as a woman Okay the car was jerking put new spark plugs a new air sensor car started running hot, radiator water hose had burst put in a new thermostat and water pump and a drove the car the next day if I feel like it didn't want to shift past 40 miles feel like it when shift into the next in second sound like I heard some air coming from and the replace put new EGR valve valvula EGR has cracked air has stopped after replacing it now it sounds like a belt is loose water pump on a water pump or the water pump is stuck can you give me some advice thank you they should I take it apart again
Remember before you torque those bolts make sure they are absolutely spotless and clean or else 89 inch pounds will not be 89 inch pounds. Never ever put those bolts back the way this guy did dirty and everything. Every video you watch on UA-cam has got some real defective processes going on with these guys
I've done this and still gets hot, one hose hotter than the other one as if water was barely moving... Removed thermostat , checked radiator for obstruction and everything seems fine. My escape has the other water pump with different blades, what could be wrong???
Yes, had the same thing happen with my personal Escape. There is a HUGE air pocket in the system. Try a "back fill". Disconnect the top radiator hose where it goes into the fitting above the thermostat. Hold the hose straight upward and pour antifreeze down it, causing it to flow into the radiator. Fill until antifreeze just starts spilling out. Reconnect the hose, and let the engine run. Any additional antifreeze should be filled at the expansion tank. Hope this helps!
Here is the question: How it can be removed and put back when the tensioner does not exist like on my model of 2004, V6 XLS?. I hope to get a reply before 2030. LOL
You have a stretch belt. There are vids showing how to remove and install those. There are special tools for it, but zip ties will work. Search "stretch belts" or "stretchy belts" along with "tensioner" and "water pumps". Thanks for watching!
It's called a water pump belt. The employees at your particular AutoZone are idiots. Funny enough, I bought a water pump belt for my Ford Escape when I actually needed was the drive belt.
Most Escapes are the same 2001-2007 or 2001-2004, depending on the part. Yes, this should work, if it's a 3.0L 6-cylinder engine. Thanks for watching, Alexis!
Like video style, without talking, without music, without fast forward, step by step, easy to watch and understand. Thanks
I wish all repair videos were as detailed as yours. Thank you.
This is the most detailed video I have seen on water pump replacement and explains many things other videos dont tell you but you may be wondering

I used this video today to do the repair on my 2006 Mazda Tribute. Went great. Thank you for making this, you saved me time and money.
Glad it helped, Hoover! Thanks for watching
This video is sooooo helpful. Thank you so much. Please keep the escape repair videos coming. Trying to bring life back to my 215k mile escape!

I have a Mazda Tribute in Australia with 340k klm and am doing the same thing. These are great videos. 👍🇦🇺
Is if still running
I have NEVER seen a how to video this good!!! thanks, I think I am going to do this on my 2001, looks identical. Thank you and congratulations!
I got to admit.. I was stressing about not knowing how to do a job like this. After watching this I feel confident. Thanks brother . Gained a suber
You can do it, Buggz. Just take your time...it's not bad. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

excellent how-to video which provides a lot of fine points other videos don't like torque, bolt tightening sequences ,etc.
Your escape leaks oil all over the place just like mine. How lovely
he lovely Duratec Oil Pan gaskets , my 00 Taurus has its own shower curtain on the garage floor lol
Really nice job! Wish there was a little bit of audio to accompany it👍🏻
Thank you for this video I was able to replace my water pump with no problem wish people did more videos like this very helpful
Great video! I love how you break down each step.
I just replaced my water pump, thermostat and did a coolant flush thanks to your videos, very helpful! Thanks a million!!

gracias por compartir estos buenos conceptos para el correcto reemplazo de bomba de agua ford escape
Absolutely the best tutorial ever
Thank you. This videos helped out so much. It saved me time and money.
Glad the video helped, Mr Giraffe. If you saved money, the video did it's job. Thanks for watching!
Good helpful video, these escapes seem pretty reasonable to service.
For most things they are. Some things are a bit of a pain, like replacing the alternator on the 3.0L engine. Thanks for watching!

Almost done with my 2005 3.0 v6 ford escape but I dont know the torque. How do you figure it out? The box it came in has no specifications
The best description step by step.
thanks
Hey mate do you know the part number for the 3 long bolts that attach the housing to the engine?
Great video ,How would I replace the water pump housing? Can’t seem to find any videos for that.
wow straight to the point brilliant !!
Thanks heaps for the videos very helpful.
If I end up scraping the mating surface… can I use the gasket sealer on both sides to fix that?
I've done it in the past with no problems. But, you have to be careful not to put too much on, and let the sealer skin over, so there is no oozing inside the pump or housing. This can cause blockage and cooling problems down the road. Thanks for watching, Corey!

really well explained, I'll do it myself
los pasos a seguir muy bien explicados, yo tengo una Ford Escape 2003 con un motor identico

What is the one roller with the spring called ?
After installing new water pump part of the gasket slightly sticks out would this be a huge problem?
As long as it doesn't leak. Thanks for watching, Ryan!
Hello. What's size the screw what hold the tensioner. Is 8mm?
Nice video explanation but I think I'll have to take the battery and maybe its holder out. It was in the way too much when changing the thermostat.
Great video man, thanks a lot for sharing
Thanks...hope it helps you out. Thanks for watching, Dubrio!
Mine does have a tensioner on it.. Any advice on how to remove and install the belt without one ?
Thank You.... most excellent instruction
You could have added to remove the battery and battery mount for easier access; like you did; to film the steps.

@@GreaseMonkeyFever With this method, essentially you are just replacing the lost fluid from the radiator drain no?
Thanks for the video. How long should this take for a novice?
3hours
where do you get the water pump in local place? In China, we get this water pump from Chongqing Feilong Jiangli Auto Parts.
For me, usually O'Reilly, AutoZone, Advance Auto or Pep Boys. Thanks for watching, Tiffany!
Chongqing feilong jiangli can supply water pumps for ford. in the future, you can inquiry
I didn't realize they took the tensioner out and put a small belt 😳 that's why it's making noise
would thar be the same procedure for a 2001 mercury cougar

I'm having a hell of a time just trying to find the belt to replace, does anyone know what the name of that belt is for the water pump?
As complicated as it sounds, it's called the WATER PUMP BELT.
@@dickfitzinya3082 is the serpentine belt the same size? Online websites like rockauto show them as being the same and fit both?
@Joe Black thank you but I'm selling my escape now lol
Is this the same for a ford escape 2002?
Most Escapes are the same 2001-2007 or 2001-2004, depending on the part. Yes, this should work, if it's a 3.0L 6-cylinder engine. Thanks for watching, Alexis!
Why don't you guys do a engine clean, before removing any components!!
RIGHT ON!!
