Both cars have potential to do better lap times(or worse) if you change all of these conditions. Its just the fact that pista is faster, doesnt matter how much faster. That depends on the conditions and even on the type of the track

The Porsche 918 which held the road car record for a while and cost even more than this special edition 488 was "only" 3 seconds quicker. I think one of the biggest things folks don’t realize about the pisTa is not only is it easy to drive at the limit , puts out amazing track times etc but the car is actually pretty comfortable even in track mode. I drive mine daily in canyons and it’s way more compliant / smooth than my huracan sto. A lot of track cars will put out great times stripped out and a suspension so tight it will give you back problems but this car does it in style and comfort that’s where the r and d go. Great job ferrari. My sto is so hardcore it’s amazing to drive but you have to get ready to get jittery which is fun in its own right

To me those tests has to be observed or done by some other than the manufacturer itself and that Pista lap time is the fastest lap done by a magazine and Christian Gebhardt.. Also the temp. was like 14 dergrees and it had rained the same day so far from perfect..

People talking crap about the Ferrari already, despite the fact that literally anyone who's done lap timing with the 488 Pista on every track so far has done records with it.... you want times that matter and are REALLY comparable, all done on the same track, same day, same conditions, same type of tire, same driver who is a professional GT3 race car driver? Here are french Motorsport magazine times done at Magni-Cours this year: 488 Pista 1:44,9 720S: 1:47,0 Huracan Perf: 1:47,5 675LT: 1:48,0 911 GT2 RS: 1:48,7 911 GT3 RS: 1:50,3 Corvette C7 Z06: 1:51,3 AMG GTR: 1:51,8 These times are BY FAR the most representative and realistic, because they were all done with all variables taken out of account and the only differences were the cars. Oh and there are uncut videos of them too, in case you doubt whether the cars were driven properly. (they were, driven as hard as can be) Oh and before anyone says "Ferrari press car", it was the ONLY car on that test that was NOT a press car, it was in fact a costumers private car lent to the Motorsport magazine for the purpose of the test and had some 14,000 km's on the clock on it already, mostly of track driving. It had no support behind it, just showed up and was given to them. On the other hand, Mclaren and Porsche had their factory teams deployed, a bunch of mechanics, they delivered factory non-registered cars, etc. Mclaren even put Trofeo-R's on the 720S, which is a tire that's not even officially available on the 720S as an option.
ZappoTan You should check other famous track record. No bias against lambo but they are just not good at corners at all，and we all know 720s and pista can beat any lambo in the straight line. I agree lambo‘s record at nurbergring，but Nurb is not any thing about a car manufacturer
@ZappoTan Wrong! Lambo has never actually got a time under 7 mins. Those lap times with factory prepped cars and Lambo test driver Mapelli driving are not real lap times. Porsche does the same thing with their Nurburgring runs.
ZappoTan Personally I like the design of lambo and I drive a Porsche. But people need to know the sacrifice of aero by the aggressive design of lambo‘s car. And lambo dont have a f1 team which means it lacks some very advanced technology. And I go to the track around me several times Lambo is not the king there. Pista and gt2rs are the top 2 and the perf is No.3 by seconds margin behind

The ferrari has consistency and therefore is hands down better And yes Nurburgring times mean nothing especially if the car is 4wd/awd/made by a manufacturer who is a part of vw

That guy has several top 20 laps on the ring with different cars. It might be not the absolute, ultimate 'Ring specialist but oh boy he's fast. Ah, he's apparently running cars stock, with bare minimum tweaking since he's lapping for a german auto magazine. Fuck it, really, he's very likely to be THE 'Ring specialist.
UA-cam is public, so we actually don't know with whom we're really talking to. But what we need to have in mind is that not being a race driver, doesn't make anyone blind or otherwise unprepared to comment on others driving performance. Christian did indeed a few mistakes on that lap. And despite I'm pretty sure I couldn't beat his time, I'm also sure it could beat his own.

The whole hybrid thing was just a gimmick. I love LaF, it's so beautiful it looks like a spaceship but power-to-weight ratio makes it complete shit, honestly. All the manufacturers of the 'holy trinity' have since made non-hybrid cars that are faster. GT3 RS is one second faster than the 918. The 718 is faster than the P1. Batteries are just too heavy.

The current record holder, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, has a power-to-weight ratio of ~452 hp/U.S. ton while the LaFerrari has a power to weight ratio of ~687 hp/U.S. ton. The power-to-weight ratio is not a good indicator of performance for track cars. Also, the LaFerrari was not a typical hybrid car, it used their Formula 1 derived Kinetic Energy Recover System, which uses regenerative braking to store energy until a button on the steering wheel is pressed which uses the stored energy to power a motor attached directly to the drivetrain to provide extra power for a short time. The key difference is that button needing to be pressed, it's almost like a Mario Kart boost except at your command. I'd also like to point your attention to the Volkswagen ID.R which has completely destroyed the holy trinity on track with a time of 6:05.336 with a ~559 hp/U.S. ton power-to-weight ratio and it's all electric.
Considering that LaFerrari is 1.8 seconds faster around Fiorano circuit which is a quite short track compare to Nurburgring, I believe LaFerrari would be around 5-6 seconds faster.
With other gears ...shorter....and a real green hell master for sure will go down 6:50...but this guy have a real real heavy feet, rare drivers go around 7 ...was a pleasure to watch
So agonizingly close to breaking the 7 min barrier, only 40 milliseconds or so. Love how the whole video is just raw driving. Also all the live information on top of the video. Could show current gear though, would be neat in a ribbon style under the speed. Awesome driver, awesome video.

Also as far as I know the GTR Pro lap time was done by Mercedes themselves, while the 488 and Pista times were done independently. A BAC Mono can shred a ton of supercars on track and it has only 300 bhp... so by your logic this must a better car than most supercars because... horsepower...
rashard D'Auvergne idk fam racing sims are supposed to be pretty close to real life now, and I’m just saying I can match this time with the regular 488 gtb in Assetto Corsa, the pista is supposed to have 20% more downforce and has over 700hp I’d say it should be 20 seconds faster, and I guess I wasn’t wrong since the time they got with the GTB was a 7:20, so assuming Assetto is accurate I’d think somewhere in the 6:40s wouldn’t be that crazy, obviously in a sim you can push 100% though without fear of wrecking a $350k car. But you can tell when he kind of lets off at times, or doesn’t push all that much cause he doesn’t wanna wreck, which is fair that’s what i would do too in real life. Just because it doesn’t have a rear wing doesn’t mean that it isn’t still producing massive levels of downforce. Ferrari claimed the 488 GTB was making 700lbs/over 315kg of downforce at 211 mph. That nearly matches the GT2 RS if the pista is making 20% more than the GTB then of course it surpasses the gt2 rs at least on its stock aero setting, if you set it to the max angle of attack then the GT2 RS gets a lot more 450kg, but I don’t think they would’ve done that for the lap as it would slow it down on all the high speed sections which the Nurburgring has a lot of, but maybe I’m wrong maybe they did use max downforce. But the 488 pista is also significantly lighter, it’s under 3000 lbs while the gt2 rs is over 3000 lbs. So again I don’t think it’s THAT crazy to assume they should perform near identical. But sure, call me crazy. Assetto is just a “video game”....... I get it...... I get it......
This car was potent but literally was biting the driver at every corner entry and exit. Such lightning steering corrections along with throttle modulation requires a lot of skill. Kudos

Wenn man die Fahrzeug daten anschaut sollte er mit dem GT2RS gleich auf sein wenn nicht schneller….aber da fehlt einfach bisschen downforce am Heck um noch schneller durch die Kurven zu kommen. Absolutes Traumauto trotzdem!!!

Ich verstehe nicht warum die oberen Gänge so elend lang übersetzt sind? Das ist ein Hardcore Supersportwagen, da kann man die 7 Gänge doch auch knackig kurz übersetzen, so das die Endgeschwindigkeit auch im 7.Gang erreicht wird...🤦♂️

If people only understood that lap times depend on so many factors. A difference of let's say 5-10 seconds (i'd even dare to go higher) is of no big relevance. I'm just going to name a few factors: - Driver's skills, experience and how he/her feels that day - Tire temperature (and also type of tire obviously) - weather conditions (ground temperature and level of moisture) - braveness (how much is the driver ready to risk) - driver making mistakes at some corners or sectors of the track Maybe someone else could expand the list.
There will be another run with this beast and best believe it’s going to hit the mark and become the king of this track The fact that this car is a customer car driven by a the main driver of a magazine company and isn’t really as professional as they come, has no wing on the car and it hit 7 min dead, like seriously now This car produces so much downforce with its design the fact that once again it has no wing like the others and comes up big with its time is bonkers This beast will dethrone the Lamborghini at the top once its ready to go for real Honestly if this thing is that fast and hasn’t been pushed to the pedigree that it can hit who knows how fast this thing can really be around the Ring The F8 Tributo is identical to this Pista and that’s a new generation / successor to the iconic V8 line a - stock machine keeping up with this insanity so just picture how the hardcore version of the F8 will be 😍

Paul Jr. Harrington Justify however you want, but stock to stock the Porsche GT2 RS is faster. In addition... the big wing doesn’t help on the super long straights on the Ring and Ferrari boasts better downforce than 488 GTB. And... the Porsche got the power from a flat 3.8 six compared to V8 Ferrari. Ferrari should have way more power or has capability for more power. Bottomline... Pista is slower. Still a nice car and gorgeous looking... Porsche is just a better track/performance car in this comparison.

This was a fast lap no doubt. I'm no professional driver, but there were some places you could see were time was lost. This could've easily been a 6m 50 something with another try. This is a sub 7min car.
Speedometers are deliberately designed to never show speeds lower than actual speed so when you have slightly worn tyres it compensates for it , hence the GPS is the more accurate speeds and in fact he is going 322kph and not 330
Wow nice catch. Ordinary speedo are set to give you an higher speed then the one you are actually travelling. But that much difference is defently crazy

Same driver (Christian Gebhart) did a 7:05.41 in a 991.2 GT3 RS. If we assume proportional lap time improvement on a factory driver lap (e.g. Kevin Estre's lap in the GT3 RS) the Pista would only do 6:51.14 compared to the GT3 RS's 6:56.4. There are posted lap times at other tracks that seem to indicate the Pista does perform well in terms of lap times, often better than the GT2 RS, but this lap in particular would indicate that the Pista is significantly slower than a normal GT2 RS around the 'Ring. Interesting.

Was denkst du wäre die Zeit vom Ferrari Werksteam? Sehr viel schneller? Ich glaube nicht dass da nochmal ~20 sec. drin sind, lasse mich aber sehr gerne vom Gegenteil überzeugen. Denn min. 06:40 müssten in 2018/19 drin sein für einen oem Sportwagen (488) der hochgezüchtet (Pista) ist.
@@antol2005 Je nach Fahrbarkeit (Fahrverhalten, persönliches Gefühl für den Wagen,...) und den äußeren Umständen (Wetter) wird ein Profi zwischen 10 und 20 Sekunden schneller sein. Das lässt sich an den anderen Tests der sportauto, z.B. des GT2 RS oder des Performante doch wunderbar ablesen. Zudem hat sportauto nicht die Möglichkeit unbegrenzt zu testen, sondern nur sehr wenige Runden zur Verfügung. Wenn dann z.B. mal das Visier rutscht, dann muss man das halt hinnehmen.

Der Pista ist für Millionäre / Milliardäre designt, um gut auf Straßen zu fahren, mit der Option auf Ausflüge aufm Track, das wars. Wäre der Pista von Ferrrari ähnlich vorbereitet worden, wie der GT2RS, wäre Herr Gebhardt 06:50 gefahren. Ferrari hatte nicht einmal Heizdecken dabei. Die hat Herr Gebhardt schnell bei VLN Teams organisiert.
Naja, so ein richtiger Amateur ist der Christian allerdings auch nicht. Der weiß schon was er macht und ist u.a. auch schon Klassensieger beim 24h-Rennen auf der Nordschleife gewesen. ;) Trotzdem natürlich eine mehr als respektable Leistung, die er da abgeliefert hat.
Impressive laptime for the pista. Faster than Mclaren 600lt and performante. Just under 2s slower than gt2rs.. And you can see from the vid where a second or two can be gained lol 😂

Porsche gt2 rs tested on 06/2019 Ferrari pista tested on 10-2019 there is a substantial difference in humidity levels, air temperature and above all asphalt temperature to the detriment of ferrari
Only two second slower than GT2rs which was developed on this track and dialed to this track and NOT EVEN ON TROFEO R!!! Jawdropping. And on every other comparison Pista is quicker
I know a majority will be emphasizing a Porsche NA GT3 with 520hp can do a same lap if not better...but still this is superb result for a Ferrari..finally they showing their max capability!

ZappoTan Personally I like the design of lambo and I drive a Porsche. But people need to know the sacrifice of aero by the aggressive design of lambo‘s car. And lambo dont have a f1 team which means it lacks some very advanced technology. And I go to the track around me several times Lambo is not the king there. Pista and gt2rs are the top 2 and the perf is No.3 by seconds margin behind

That guy has several top 20 laps on the ring with different cars. It might be not the absolute, ultimate 'Ring specialist but oh boy he's fast.

Christian did indeed a few mistakes on that lap. And despite I'm pretty sure I couldn't beat his time, I'm also sure it could beat his own.

The whole hybrid thing was just a gimmick. I love LaF, it's so beautiful it looks like a spaceship but power-to-weight ratio makes it complete shit, honestly. All the manufacturers of the 'holy trinity' have since made non-hybrid cars that are faster. GT3 RS is one second faster than the 918. The 718 is faster than the P1. Batteries are just too heavy.

The current record holder, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, has a power-to-weight ratio of ~452 hp/U.S. ton while the LaFerrari has a power to weight ratio of ~687 hp/U.S. ton. The power-to-weight ratio is not a good indicator of performance for track cars. Also, the LaFerrari was not a typical hybrid car, it used their Formula 1 derived Kinetic Energy Recover System, which uses regenerative braking to store energy until a button on the steering wheel is pressed which uses the stored energy to power a motor attached directly to the drivetrain to provide extra power for a short time. The key difference is that button needing to be pressed, it's almost like a Mario Kart boost except at your command. I'd also like to point your attention to the Volkswagen ID.R which has completely destroyed the holy trinity on track with a time of 6:05.336 with a ~559 hp/U.S. ton power-to-weight ratio and it's all electric.

Considering that LaFerrari is 1.8 seconds faster around Fiorano circuit which is a quite short track compare to Nurburgring, I believe LaFerrari would be around 5-6 seconds faster.

So agonizingly close to breaking the 7 min barrier, only 40 milliseconds or so. Love how the whole video is just raw driving. Also all the live information on top of the video. Could show current gear though, would be neat in a ribbon style under the speed. Awesome driver, awesome video.

rashard D'Auvergne idk fam racing sims are supposed to be pretty close to real life now, and I’m just saying I can match this time with the regular 488 gtb in Assetto Corsa, the pista is supposed to have 20% more downforce and has over 700hp I’d say it should be 20 seconds faster, and I guess I wasn’t wrong since the time they got with the GTB was a 7:20, so assuming Assetto is accurate I’d think somewhere in the 6:40s wouldn’t be that crazy, obviously in a sim you can push 100% though without fear of wrecking a $350k car. But you can tell when he kind of lets off at times, or doesn’t push all that much cause he doesn’t wanna wreck, which is fair that’s what i would do too in real life. Just because it doesn’t have a rear wing doesn’t mean that it isn’t still producing massive levels of downforce. Ferrari claimed the 488 GTB was making 700lbs/over 315kg of downforce at 211 mph. That nearly matches the GT2 RS if the pista is making 20% more than the GTB then of course it surpasses the gt2 rs at least on its stock aero setting, if you set it to the max angle of attack then the GT2 RS gets a lot more 450kg, but I don’t think they would’ve done that for the lap as it would slow it down on all the high speed sections which the Nurburgring has a lot of, but maybe I’m wrong maybe they did use max downforce. But the 488 pista is also significantly lighter, it’s under 3000 lbs while the gt2 rs is over 3000 lbs. So again I don’t think it’s THAT crazy to assume they should perform near identical. But sure, call me crazy. Assetto is just a “video game”....... I get it...... I get it......

Ich verstehe nicht warum die oberen Gänge so elend lang übersetzt sind? Das ist ein Hardcore Supersportwagen, da kann man die 7 Gänge doch auch knackig kurz übersetzen, so das die Endgeschwindigkeit auch im 7.Gang erreicht wird...🤦♂️
Es hat generell keinen Sinn über Getriebeübersetzungen zu diskutieren, weil jeder andere Präferenzen hat.

If people only understood that lap times depend on so many factors. A difference of let's say 5-10 seconds (i'd even dare to go higher) is of no big relevance.
I'm just going to name a few factors:
- Driver's skills, experience and how he/her feels that day
- Tire temperature (and also type of tire obviously)
- weather conditions (ground temperature and level of moisture)
- braveness (how much is the driver ready to risk)
- driver making mistakes at some corners or sectors of the track
Maybe someone else could expand the list.

Not at all. It is surprisingly compliant. It's not 488 soft, but still very nice. Biggest thing about the Pista in terms of comfort is the noise.

In addition... the big wing doesn’t help on the super long straights on the Ring and Ferrari boasts better downforce than 488 GTB. And... the Porsche got the power from a flat 3.8 six compared to V8 Ferrari. Ferrari should have way more power or has capability for more power. Bottomline... Pista is slower. Still a nice car and gorgeous looking... Porsche is just a better track/performance car in this comparison.

This was a fast lap no doubt. I'm no professional driver, but there were some places you could see were time was lost. This could've easily been a 6m 50 something with another try. This is a sub 7min car.

on the long straight line the GPS indicates 322kmh but the speedometer is clearly seen to exceed 330kmh... what madness!!!

Speedometers are deliberately designed to never show speeds lower than actual speed so when you have slightly worn tyres it compensates for it , hence the GPS is the more accurate speeds and in fact he is going 322kph and not 330

The porsche is from 2017 so 2 years old.
And also the porsche was designed to be good at the nordschleife. No wonder if its better at something that its literally designed to do.
Same driver (Christian Gebhart) did a 7:05.41 in a 991.2 GT3 RS. If we assume proportional lap time improvement on a factory driver lap (e.g. Kevin Estre's lap in the GT3 RS) the Pista would only do 6:51.14 compared to the GT3 RS's 6:56.4.
There are posted lap times at other tracks that seem to indicate the Pista does perform well in terms of lap times, often better than the GT2 RS, but this lap in particular would indicate that the Pista is significantly slower than a normal GT2 RS around the 'Ring. Interesting.

Was denkst du wäre die Zeit vom Ferrari Werksteam? Sehr viel schneller? Ich glaube nicht dass da nochmal ~20 sec. drin sind, lasse mich aber sehr gerne vom Gegenteil überzeugen. Denn min. 06:40 müssten in 2018/19 drin sein für einen oem Sportwagen (488) der hochgezüchtet (Pista) ist.

Je nach Fahrbarkeit (Fahrverhalten, persönliches Gefühl für den Wagen,...) und den äußeren Umständen (Wetter) wird ein Profi zwischen 10 und 20 Sekunden schneller sein. Das lässt sich an den anderen Tests der sportauto, z.B. des GT2 RS oder des Performante doch wunderbar ablesen. Zudem hat sportauto nicht die Möglichkeit unbegrenzt zu testen, sondern nur sehr wenige Runden zur Verfügung. Wenn dann z.B. mal das Visier rutscht, dann muss man das halt hinnehmen.

Der Pista ist für Millionäre / Milliardäre designt, um gut auf Straßen zu fahren, mit der Option auf Ausflüge aufm Track, das wars.
Wäre der Pista von Ferrrari ähnlich vorbereitet worden, wie der GT2RS, wäre Herr Gebhardt 06:50 gefahren. Ferrari hatte nicht einmal Heizdecken dabei. Die hat Herr Gebhardt schnell bei VLN Teams organisiert.
Naja, so ein richtiger Amateur ist der Christian allerdings auch nicht. Der weiß schon was er macht und ist u.a. auch schon Klassensieger beim 24h-Rennen auf der Nordschleife gewesen. ;) Trotzdem natürlich eine mehr als respektable Leistung, die er da abgeliefert hat.

Only two second slower than GT2rs which was developed on this track and dialed to this track and NOT EVEN ON TROFEO R!!! Jawdropping. And on every other comparison Pista is quicker

Ok, Pista > GT2 RS on all circuits except Nurburgring.
I know a majority will be emphasizing a Porsche NA GT3 with 520hp can do a same lap if not better...but still this is superb result for a Ferrari..finally they showing their max capability!
