  • Quick review of my PullRite SuperGlide 2700 16k 5th Wheel Hitch. I use it to pull my 38' Toyhauler.
    Update 11-23-18 Pullrite sent me a liter hitch of theirs called the Pullrite Super Lite! Please Subscribe and watch for an updated video to come out soon on that hitch!!
    Update 01-12-17 it was asked in a question below but you also need to be pretty straight with your trailer as well when you are disconnecting from the Hitch. You can't do it at an angle.
    Update 11-4-16: attached is a link to figure out what capture plate you need for your specific 5th Wheel based off what pin box was used during manufacturing.

    I have the 15K. Purchased it 4 yrs ago. Never had a problem. I tow a 32' Chaparral 5th wheel with a Ram 2500 HD 6'6" box. Hitch is always smooth as silk with a little WD40 and some Minot TLC every now and then.

    To remove the very heavy Superglide I bought a 2k engine hoist from Harbor Freight and the Demco 6100. I had to make a modification to the hoist. I extended the arm 11 inches by inserting a 4 foot 2x2 steel square pipe into the sliding original piece. Using the original pipe as my template I made my holes and cut for the chain. I now can lift the hitch up with the tail gate closed and roll the hitch backwards the tailgate. I then open the tailgate and drive forward. The front of the hitch is heavy and will tilt down so I use a tie down strap under the two slider rails and over the arm and ratchet snug to keep level. This will be necessary when reinstalling.

    Awesome Video! We have a PullRite Superglide 24K hitch and Shawn is correct about having to make sure you come in straight to hook up. Hitch has to be aligned for it to connect.

    That's a good one, so easy to use, we install one just like it but you have to put it up front locked and when you get to where your going then you move it to the back and lock it just for the tight turns.grate video, thanks.

    Hey, I own the same hitch... Love the automatic slide feature. Have some trouble releasing the jaws from the kingpin at times. Seems I have to be straight in even when unhooking. I called the Pull Rite hitch rep and he suggested once the 5er was in position, to chock the wheels and back into the RV maybe 1” to take the pressure off the hitch. We will see if that helps. One trip, I had to undo the pins holding the hitch head and lift the RV + hitch head off the 5th wheel hitch base!

      I too had a similar issue of if there’s too much tension on the jaws it won’t release when you try to pull the handle. The fix was exactly what Pullrite suggested of release the tension off the hitch by backing up just a hair. Worked perfect. Safe travels!

    Dude, fantastic video. I have been looking for a solution as I just ordered a 2017 RAM 3500 mega cab short box SWR Limited
    with the Ram Boxes. Everyone, including Ram and the dealer says no way for 5th wheel towing with the Ram Boxes. However, I have met guys in Phoenix, AZ during our annual baseball spring training trips who have Ram Box equipped trucks, both 2500 & 3500 with zero issues while towing big ass 5th wheel Montana size 5th wheels. My wife wants a new 2017 Montana 3660RL 5th wheel, so I need a bigger tow vehicle than my old 2002 Tundra with which I have been dragging around our current 29 foot
    travel trailer, with no problems. Now I need to find the best 5th wheel hitch for pulling a 39 foot Montana 5th wheel trailer, with clearance to not impact the cab of my truck. Reese makes a nice set up but moves the pivot point back 22 inches at all times.
    I like the Pull Rite in your video as the full weight is over the rear ax;le of the truck aside from while turning. This looks to be the best solution for me. Any thoughts or advice from you?
    Thanks - Phil Salsbery - Huntington Beach, CA.

    You don't have to be perfectly aligned. I have this hitch and have been severely unleveled backed in on a hill and angled quite a few times and have gotten attached and detached from it. They say you have to have the hitch straight but whenever I've needed I have rotated the hitch or angled it to get it to align and it's worked every single time.

    Great video. I will be hooking up my new Ford F-250 (soon as they make it!) to exact same Pullrite 16K auto slider hitch. I’m bit concerned about fifth wheel/truck bed clearance. There is no adjustment right? How much clearance do you have on your truck. Do they make truck beds & pin heights a standard height? So what happens if you need to unhitch or hitch at an angle. Is it still possible. Sorry for aLl the questions, never towed a fifth wheel, always towed travel trailers. Thanks again for the informative video.

    Just bought a new 5th wheel and a Pullrite Superglide and appreciated your video. I'm having a lot of difficulty pulling the yellow tipped lever to unlock the hitch. After about 10 tries, I finally managed to pull it out. The demonstrator at the RV dealer made it look so easy. Is there a trick to it?

    • @CollaGoUnLTD
      @CollaGoUnLTD  6 років тому +1

      +Brian M hey Brian glad you liked the video, the trick to it is making sure there is little forward or backward pressure on the jaws of the hitch before you pull the yellow release handle. What I mean by that (I take no liability in this) but as an example is if you back your trailer in, put the landing gear down and chock the wheels to take pressure off of the 5th wheel plate then I literally will put the truck in drive and just barely let it roll forward let let pressure off of the jaws of the hitch then put it back in park and pull the yellow release. Or if your in a pull through spot I do the opposite, after I put the landing get down I will to take weight off the plate I will back up to take pressure off of the jaws. It doesn't happen to me to often and I've really only experienced that when I'm parking on a slight incline or decline. Hope that helps and happy camping.

    • @CollaGoUnLTD
      @CollaGoUnLTD  6 місяців тому

      Great question, but it’s completely in the design of the hitch how it rotates back and forth. The only way it can rotate backward is when the head of the hitch turns one direction or the other. If the head is straight with the truck it will stay at its forward position. Hard to make sense of, but I’d rotate it with the 5th wheel disconnected so you can see how it operates.

    I am purchasing a 5th wheel. The owner gave me the above mentioned hitch that fits in my rails with no problem. However everywhere I read about this setup it mentions it is for a short bed truck. My truck is a long bed. I'll can look into getting something else but was wondering if there would be any problems using it as it is til I get a replacement.

    • @CollaGoUnLTD
      @CollaGoUnLTD  7 років тому +1

      This Hitch is not going to be any worse because you have a long bed. It was designed to give short beds more room when making tight turns but a long bed can utilize it just the same even though it's not really needed. I'd save yourself the Money on buying a new Hitch and get a good set of airbags if you don't have any yet!

    Not much mention of the capture plate. This hitch will not work unless you have one. You can not tow anyone else's 5th wheel without the appropriate capture plate. This hitch is not a one size fits all. Mine is dedicated to my TT and it's the only thing I tow. Fantastic hitch though.

    Newbie question - haven't pulled a 5th wheel yet. Since there's so much rotation - do you feel the trailer move to the side when a tractor trailer passes on the Interstate?

    • @CollaGoUnLTD

      A big benefit of a 5th wheel is not having to get wind blown when a semi passes unlike smaller bumper pulls. The hitch has no effect on sides to side sway.

      As with any Fifth wheel you must put the tailgate down when connecting or disconnecting your trailer. Once connected, you may put the tailgate up. Then you must lower the tailgate to disconnect. Also. in-spite of the video's claim. you CAN attach at an angle but you Must have a mechanical aptitude to do so. I have manged as much as forty five degrees, but it is not easy. More than that is even more difficult but I can tell you that I would not want to try unless there was absolutely no other way.

I did add airlift airbags in the rear which have been awesome for leveling the truck back out. I'm tuned on EFI Live which also helps out with towing. So time for a toy hauler. Can I fit 2 2 seat RZRs in the back of an 11' garage? Thinking a tight squeeze if at all. Glad to hear you've had success with the short box and a 35' 5th wheel. I was a little concerned but now, feel much better. Love the L5P. It's a Pepperdust Metallic High Country. Did a BDS coilover and a 3" lift (rear not really at all just trying to get it level). Pulls the 11,000lb TT like it's not even back there. Headed east in a few weeks and wanted to get a new rig for the trip. Now I'm fired up, lol. Thanks!

    • @CollaGoUnLTD
      @CollaGoUnLTD  7 років тому +1

      Rob Rice id look up what the manufacture recommends but I have not had to do any major adjustments on mine, I just use a bit of wd40 to keep the rails and low friction discs that the head rides on smooth. I'd imagine you will start getting more play from wear on the low friction disks which would ultimately cause them to need replacing, but I don't see that needing to be done for several years.

    • @robrice593

      ShawnCollazo I called Superglide and they were so helpful. The side to side movement I noticed is fine, the biggest things to pay attention to is the silver bolt that points to the cab right under the catch plate. This needs a small adjustment from time to time. And they also said to just spray some wd40 on it each day you tow. Great video, thank you for taking the time to post it!

      While it always works better to hitch up as straight as you can be in line with the trailer, you can hitch up at up to around 8° angle from straight on. It definitely takes a little more finesse when doing that though so the hitch doesn’t bind up with the capture plate.

      @@CollaGoUnLTD I think what he means is does it stick in the normal position while your turning. That way it doesn’t slam around back and forth.

    • @CollaGoUnLTD
      @CollaGoUnLTD  3 роки тому +2

      Hey John, a couple tips I found useful for dis engaging the hitch are:
      1. Make sure you are pretty much straight in line with your trailer, any decent angle will cause potential binding issues.
      2. Chock the trailer tires and then back the truck up just enough to push the 5th wheel pin off the jaws of the hitch. Basically if you put it in reverse and just slowly release the brakes a little until you feel the truck move just barely backward then put it back in park, that’s usually enough
      3. Raise the hitch up just enough to where you see a gap between the capture plate and the top of the hitch.
      4. Pull the release lever and it should easily open up the hitch jaws and you can pull the truck away!
      Hope this helps! If you have Facebook you should join the “Pullrite 5th wheel hitch owners” page! There’s lots of good insight on it!
