DSB has bought new waggons for the Copenhagen - Hamburg line. They are testing them right now, and it is done at night. But here is a video showing a test. The video title: "Testkørsel af Talgo-vognene". As you can see in the video, it is with a push-pull configuration, it will also be the configuration when in normal operation. The reason is that the steering waggons will arrive in a year or two later. So with a total of 17000 HP, it should be possible to get these lightweight Talgo waggons over the bridge at Rendsburg. Normal operation is expected to start in January 2025, MAYBE December 2024. So DB can get their waggons back next year.

I expect some changes in the Netherlands too, as we're also going to have these trains running to Berlin. It would be great if they could extend to Hamburg, making it much easier and faster to take the second train to Copenhagen 😊
great views, but -alas- I prefer a short plane flight; this takes too long and is also very complicated. there should be direct trains from (e.g. Amsterdam or Schiphol) towards Copenhagen in high speed (or at least a comfortable 'sleeper' during the night as it was before in the 'Nord Express' or the 'Hook - Copenhagen' express with a dining car and private sleepers of course).
Thanks for sharing! I get that flying is quicker and easier for some. A direct high-speed or comfy sleeper train between Amsterdam and Copenhagen would be awesome. There are new ICE-L trains coming to the Netherlands and Denmark in 2025 that can go 230 km/h, so that should save some time. Fingers crossed for future improvements!
From december 2025 there will be a direct train from amsterdam to copenhagen, which will be about 2 hours shorter than this route. When the Fehnmarn tunnel opens in 2029, the journey will be another two hours shorter.
@daanwolters3751 That sounds really promising! Now it took us 12 hours, but by 2029 it could be just 8 hours. Traveling by train will be much easier and faster in Europe in the future. It will be a great alternative to airplanes ✈️
@@LetsgowithD yeah it is, the tunnel and the direct train will be huge upgrades. Especially since a 8 hour direct train (7.5 even, going by the original announcement of the DSB) is doable. And in my eyes better than flying as it is a lot more comfortable, especially since you dont have to worry about connections.
@daanwolters3751 I totally agree. It would be a big upgrade because it's much faster and more comfortable, especially with a direct train without having to take 2 or 3 trains to get to your destination. It's looking good!
Yes, I've read about Govolta expanding to Berlin and Copenhagen. It's really exciting to have a new player on the market, offering more options for customers. I saw that they also have ambitions to connect to Paris and Basel. It’s great to see such growth in train travel!
It is looking sunny for train travelers in Europe. Good times are coming with faster trains and more options. The Netherlands will also have the same trains like Denmark.

Although I've heard that the GoVolta trains will be more of a budget option (something similar to flixtrain I assume). I'm very excited to take this train as I travel often to Sweden from the Netherlands.
@Chamarel You are correct! Govolta will focus on budget. I read that there is an option to buy seat reservations or not (standing or restaurant?). The train will also take longer than the current one from Amsterdam to Berlin, but I still think it's good for customers to have more players in the market. Hopefully, this will lead to better prices and better trains.

12 hours sitting in a train and switching to new trains can feel long in a day. But for me, the longest ride was going from Amsterdam to Istanbul-4 days and 3 nights in a row!
I did that trip in reverse, some 44 years ago. I don't remember changing trains. It was a direct connection between Copenhagen and Amsterdam. We must have had a ferry instead of a tunnel. I don't recall it, I was too tired (see below). But I do recall that it took one hour less in total. No stopovers save a lot of time, more than the ferry took, apparently. I do recall it was hot and I was sharing a cabin with a fellow Dutchman who was a professional gambler and had a flu and was glad he could talk Dutch to me. He did so for 11 hours.... and he did not want the window open because of his fever. No AC in the trains back then. I came from Stockholm, walked from Copenhagen Central to the harbor. I missed the last ferry from Gothenburg to Copenhagen. I was a poor student and had to sleep in a park on a bench, which did not work well with 6 deg C and fog. After that and the hot cabin with the talkative gambler I was so tired that when I finally was home in Haarlem, I slept for 24 hours almost without interruption. It was not a journey I would like to repeat.
Wow, what an incredible story! Traveling has definitely changed a lot over the years. Your journey sounds like it was quite the adventure, especially without the modern comforts we have today. I hope you didn’t get the flu from your Dutch fellow traveler. It was really nice to read your story, and I feel we have something in common-I live very close to Haarlem and we both did this journey. If you feel like it, you should do it again to relive old memories and make new ones. There is a sale with Interrail until July 18 with 20% discount. Just keep in mind, when you buy, you should use it within a year from September.

Bedankt voor je reactie! Vertragingen zijn inderdaad een risico, maar gelukkig verliep onze reis probleemloos. Er komen binnenkort positieve veranderingen: volgend jaar komt de nieuwe ICE-L trein in dienst en met de nieuwe tunnel wordt de reistijd verkort tot 8 uur in plaats van 12 uur. Met Nederland en Denemarken die beide de nieuwe trein gaan gebruiken, kijk ik uit naar betere verbindingen😁

I love these type of compartment style carraiges in first class - I wish we had these here in the U.K., where even the railways in Eastern Europe and in my native Ireland are better than here in the U.K. and where the railways in Europe are much better

A little correction, there are no direct train from AMS to Copenhagen and the train you took from HAM to Copenhagen got the same carrages that is all.they will be changed end of this year or early 2025 in a Talgo ICE

Did this trip in the 80ties, direct from Amsterdam. 13 hours and the train het to get on the ferry in Puttgarden. Never again, I will take the plane, much more convenient. Especially as you realise that the airport in CPH is close to the city centre. O and don’t tell me that it takes time to get to the airport. It takes more time for me to get to the Amsterdam Central Station.

It surprises me how the NS IC offers bike storage but the DSB EC doesn’t. What also surprised me, was the cancellation of ICE 614, which was the same ICE train I took from Cologne to Hamburg. Another surprise I saw was the same exact EC train at 14:53 I also took on the same trip. My only complaint about the EC is the lack of bike storage and a restaurant wagon
The Netherlands is truly a bicycle country at heart, with more bicycles than people! Maybe with the new ICE-L trains coming, there will be more space for bicycles and even some restaurants on this route.
@@LetsgowithD The ICE Ls are confirmed to be having a BordRestaurant. Their similar DSB counterpart, however, will only have vending machines because DSB enjoys cutting costs.
That sounds great! On the ICE L trains having an onboard restaurant is a big plus. What I really appreciate about DSB and other Scandinavian countries is their excellent service in first class, offering free water, coffee, tea, fruit, and treats like candy or chocolate. Unfortunately, we don't have that in the Netherlands! I've only experienced this level of service in that part of Europe so far 😊
LOL, in '98 I went to kobenhavn for work, first meal in denmark was pizza. I do not remember the name, it was topped with pieces of beef and covered with egg never seen such a pizza again.(and do not remember the name of the pizza or pizzeria :(, it was a pizzeria on the vesterbrogade, close to the center )
That sounds like a unique pizza experience! How was your pizza? I don't know the spot you mentioned, but I had a Quattro Formaggi pizza at the station, and it was one of the best I've ever had.
I've actually had pretty good experiences with Deutsche Bahn! There have been only a few delays and one cancellation, but overall, it's been reliable and comfortable for my trips😊
So, air travel takes 90 mins (plus 2 hours before departure), costs €69… This trip takes 11 hours, costs €230. I know why ppl are taking the Easyjet route.
I know the airplane is faster and cheaper. Personally, I like the train - it has a completely different vibe. For me, money is not a factor in my decision. In the near future I will fly to Japan, so sometimes I also fly. I would recommend trying long train travel. Thank you for watching and for your comment😊

Yes, it’s much faster and more convenient now! The train connection between Germany and Denmark really makes the journey smoother. Plus, with the new train service coming at the end of 2024/2025, it will be even faster. Thanks for watching!
The ferry still exists but the route via Flensborg takes the same amount of time. When the tunnel opens, the train will return to Puttgarten-Rødby but will be much faster with a shorter travel time from Hamborg to Copenhagen.

Nice story, I took the Øresundståg from Copenhagen to Malmö last year… it was great and fairly easy to travel between these two cities

So, air travel takes 90 mins (plus 2 hours before departure), costs €69… This trip takes 11 hours, costs €230. I know why ppl are taking the Easyjet route.
I know the airplane is faster and cheaper. Personally, I like the train - it has a completely different vibe. For me, money is not a factor in my decision. In the near future I will fly to Japan, so sometimes I also fly. I would recommend trying long train travel. Thank you for watching and for your comment😊

I miss the ferry.
The ferry still exists but the route via Flensborg takes the same amount of time. When the tunnel opens, the train will return to Puttgarten-Rødby but will be much faster with a shorter travel time from Hamborg to Copenhagen.
not so fun fact: I got sick in the ic Berlin, idk why but my vestibular didn't like the 200km/h traject between Bremen and Hamburg...
