Thanks for this review. Seems like it’s a marginal improvement but an improvement nonetheless. And it’s a no brainer for those of us that never picked up the Blu Ray.
All you have to do to see the difference is watch the very beginning of the movie when the Bride pulls up in the Pussy Wagon in front of Vernita Green's house. The colors on the house, the truck, the clothes, just pop on the 4K disc unlike the blu ray.
I disagree on my Panasonic OLED the 1080p Blu-rays colours always popped. Even more pop if you go in TV settings and change the Gamma to Rec 2020 @@SuperSnakePlissken
Hi Adam, thanks for the honest review (very refreshing - compared to some UA-camrs) Disappointing that it seems such a copy and paste from the Blu-ray. I'm also impressed that you're not bemoaning the lack of an Atmos soundtrack. While I'm a fan of Atmos with new released films ,I much prefer to leave the original soundtrack as the director intended and not mess or repurpose the channels to make a fake atmos experience 👍😎 Keep up the good work buddy 🫡
I just watched the 4K disc version last night and I really liked it. Kill Bill unfortunately suffers from the same issue most movies in the early to mid 2000s suffers from, which is 2K CGI. Because the CGI of that era maxed out at 2K you cannot bring the image quality above 2K natively or it ruins the CGI, so upscale to 4K is the only option that you have. After watching the 4K disc last night of Vol. 1, then popped in the blu-ray that came with the steelbook version I bought, and with the two contrasting with one another you clearly see the upgrade. The colors, the HDR, the inky blacks, are all better than the blu ray. The image has more life to it than the blu ray which has a more flat look which is typical with blu ray since they do not have HDR lighting. IF you love the film it is definitely worth the upgrade. I am definitely looking forward to watching vol. 2 tonight!
@@SWATTECHNOLOGIES That it was. Not only on the TOS but TNG as well had some nice upgrades and touches. I have both those series on blu ray disc to preserve them for myself. Digital content is starting to disappear and or get edited so get it on physical as soon as you can.
I didn’t own the blu so this was a good upgrade for me. It would have been nice if it wasn’t finished in a 2kdi but they didn’t know back then. 5.1 was solid and the slip was cool. Although I have seen art on other blu releases that I liked more.
Hello, quick question. To do and illustrate this test, did you take pictures of your TV? Because I have the film in 4K like you and the images you show are very far from being faithful, color, contrast are all altered. The 4K transfer is far superior to what you show. Reassure me these are pictures of your TV? Maybe you specify it in your video but I must have missed this passage... Thank you for your clarification
I found this 4k to be a definite improvement over the BluRay. A worthwhile purchase. Yes, it has some flaws, and not the best 4k ever, but what matters most to me is that it’s a notable upgrade - and it is.
Hi Adam, sorry I've not been in touch in a while, tho I am still watching 👍👍👍👍 are these being the this years Cameron's versions. With True Lies being to crash test dummy of the three films. I've heard good things about Jackie Brown but this one I'm honestly not sure about these two films. I've not seen them in a very long time. in your honest opinion are they worth owning on 4K??? Obvs I did buy Aliens & tho it wasn't how the film should be for me ( dark & gritty ) I still enjoyed the transfer as with The Abyss which was excellent, but totally avoided T L . Might pick them up at a later date when K B 1 & 2 become cheaper later in the year... Keep fighting the good fight Adam 👏👏👏👏
Not sure if it's just me, but I noticed a handful of scenes in which people were moving around the frame, yet the grain remained in place. Almost as if there was a layer of artificial grain added. Wasn't a fan of the transfer, but I'm glad to own the upgrade nonetheless.
Bluray looks really good enough, plus no Atmos?....I cant keep spending $ just because it has a pretty art on steebooks. My Denon X3800 does a nice job in 4k upscaling blurays. Plus lots good releases comming in March ...which need to save for.
Disappointing. It wouldn't be so bad if they could put it together as the mythic "Whole Bloody Affair" version or at least package these movies together. That might be worth the double dip.
Not too much better than the bluray, but with vol.2 being my all-time favorite flick, I had to get it. It is marginally better in some spots. However, vol.2 does a much better job. There's still some soft spots but, overall, worth the purchase. The lack of special features is strange because Lionsgate Limited has a slew of new special features from them on their upcoming release of You're Next. But, maybe that's because I'm presuming they're using the unimpressive Second Sight transfer and they might have to add something to release it under their name.
saw a channel that showed a ton of side by side comparison and decided to definitely keep my pre-order intact. glad I did. watched it last night and thought it looked terrific. I got the $27 slip versions.
I don't know what you are smoking but both of these issues are UNWATCHABLE. I was so looking forward to an improvement of the terrible looking Blu-Ray and was very disappointed. I want my money back.
You can cut it any way you want, but the fact that nobody was willing to stump up for a 4K transfer to be done, but instead just stick a 2K upscale onto an expensive steelbook is quite insulting. Minimum effort, maximum profit as they know collector’s will just buy it. Jackie Brown, on the other hand, is quite the revelation and fortunately it’s one of Tarantino’s absolute best.

@jad7306 Not at all. I get plenty of Steelbooks and have several on pre order.

Thanks for this review. Seems like it’s a marginal improvement but an improvement nonetheless. And it’s a no brainer for those of us that never picked up the Blu Ray.
Exactly I never did the blu ray or even have many Tarantino films so these lionsgate limited releases were no brainers

I am so with you on Atmos. To me, it would be like colorizing a black and white movie like Casablanca. These are NOT improvements.

Thank you for you review as well. I bought them and cant wait to watch so im glad others agree there is some improvement.
Shaun of the Dead has been recently remastered in 4K by Universal, Studiocanal re-done low resolution CGI effects in The Pianist to 6K
@ If they redo the CGI effects yes you can update it to 4K. That's the key.
That's why Star Trek redid effects for the remastered original series which was awesome.

i watched it at list 10 times when it was in cinemas and remember that it was always bloomy so its not transfer problem
Yup, it’s from the source and not a problem whatsoever.

I appreciate your professional review, I think im going to stick with my 2 separate regular bluray copies for 1 and 2 and save the $
You get a lot of 2K upscales from this era because the VFX were done in 2K. I don’t own these on blu ray, so I’m looking forward to checking them out!

I still only have that red&yellow dvd set that Best Buy released. Still holding out for an eventual 2pack of the 4ks, probably on sale
