    I'm glad I've been putting off resealing the shower - I wasn't 100% on how to do it and would not have done it like this! Thank you for such a useful video, I'll be putting to practise this weekend.

      @@mitre10nz It went great! What a change, I should have done it sooner. I'd add a tip that if you get a rough patch of silicon or lose your smooth line because you stopped and started again (like I did) if you get some turps on a gloved finger you can smooth it right out just by dabbing at it.

    Can i spread the silicone without using anything such as turps?

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  5 місяців тому

      We recommend using turps to clean up once you've removed the old silicone as this will help get rid of any extra little bits that you can't see - both old silicone and and residual grime & grease - giving you a cleaner surface to start with. When you're spreading the silicone, the turps helps your silicone applicator tool glide on easier, making for a smoother application ^Matt

  • @ryanwelsh5277
    @ryanwelsh5277 4 роки тому +3

    Kia ora Matt. Do you pull the tape off straight after smoothing it with the smoothing tool? Or do you let the silicone set for a while? If so how long?

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  4 роки тому +3

      Hey Ryan, you'd be best to take the tape of white the silicone is still wet because if it's dried, you might get bits of tape stuck to your end result! The drying time depends on the silicone itself so check the instructions on the container :) Cheers, ^James

    Thanks that looks easy.. bet it isn't though! Can you tell me what's the difference between turpentine and turpentine substitute? Can I use either?

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  3 роки тому +3

      It’s one of those skills that’s worth a little bit of practice, but easier than you expect once you understand how to control it all. 😊
      Regarding turpentine substitute, that’ll vary as there can be quite a few differences between turpentine substitute products, some for example are designed for art oil painting with less odour or citrus added. So unless the substitute is a White Spirit or Mineral Spirit it’s worth checking the substitutes label or with its supplier. ^Nathan

    Why cant you just apply the silicon on top of the old one why do you have to rewove the other one completely? Why cant i just put this new one on top of the old as long as i clean it first???

    • @KarenNg0909
      @KarenNg0909 27 днів тому

      You could but it wouldnt look as good, plus unless you clean it all out properly you'd trap in the mold and moisture that you'd nornally get rid of before applying new silicon.
