    When I fought in China for the first time, I quickly realized that sanda fighters (just like Muay Thai fighters) grease themselves up with lard before the matches. But when these guys transitioned to MMA, they still greased themselves up, because there was no athletic commission telling them not to.
    My first MMA fight against a greased up guy was nuts. He slipped out of every submission attempt. He couldn’t slip out of full mount though.
    I grew up in a small town next to a rodeo arena in ancient times before animal rights activists. Every year they would have a greased pig chase for the kids. It was exactly like that: trying to catch a greased piglet that doesn’t want to be caught (you can’t)
    Rashguards and grease as opposed to bare skin and grease is a very different dynamic. Bare skin, one greasy guy makes both guys slick. One rashgaurd will reduce the friction no matter what.
    Anyway, this video brought back some memories of weird times! Keep at it Jedi! You rule man!

I can't read and watch, to the extent where I'm really absorbing it, at the same time. Probably just me because I'm a very white belt and dyslexic. Anyway, thanks again.

    Great vid! Just a note on the armless triangle, as opposed to putting your shin across his shoulders and hooking it up just straighten both of your legs while just keeping your feet crossed and to add an extra squeeze you can give you knees a bearhug and securing it with an s/gable grip reaching over his shoulders but under your legs. Cheesus that's difficult to describe!! Hopefully it makes some sort of sense. It is fun to get when people are going for double unders!

    To finish the armless triangle I’d recommend getting your close side arm (here left) to hold your shin from next to his neck diagonally (like a cross choke with gi), using your arm to fill the gap and create pressure as opposed to his arm being used, then finish like a standard triangle, it’s better to get this in before locking it up though as you may face trouble sliding the arm in, hope I helped

    Just my thoughts on bodybuilding as well, I think a lot of people who practice martial arts don't consider the fact that body building in itself can be considered another form of training. Not specifically for fighting mind you, but just like how a trained fighter should be able to easily defeat an untrained average person I feel a bodybuilder should typically be able to outperform/defeat an untrained average person. I'm speaking from the perspective of a trained fighter who weighs less than 200lb and am regularly going against men bigger and stronger than me, but are typically less experienced in jiu jitsu.
    Sorry for the rant there, I suppose my main thought was just that it pays to be buff/in good condition as much(-Ish) as being well trained.

      I wholeheartedly agree with you. Many people prioritize technique over conditioning when in reality, both pillars supplement each other.
      Techniques are efficient applications of strength, so getting stronger will help the effectiveness and reliability of the technique.
      In order to get good at technique, one must get countless hours of experience drilling and using it in live sparring, and it helps to have muscular endurance and a good gas tank so you don't practice it sloppily and develop bad habits.
      "You're so strong" being a backhanded compliment in grappling (specifically BJJ) has always baffled me.

    • @dannygrows
      @dannygrows Рік тому

      Agree and understand your point. However, 'untrained average people' aren't generally the ones to pick fights, especially not with bodybuilders

    • @pumpkingofghosts6994
      @pumpkingofghosts6994 Рік тому +4

      @@dannygrows Actually I'd disagree, from my experience it's the dumb untrained people who pick a fight the most because they don't understand how badly you can get hurt. Most, and I cannot stress the word most here, people who train learn there's always a bigger fish after getting their asses kicked by the coach for the five thousandth time.

    India, Turkey, The Philippines, some tribes in Africa and I'm sure many other places have stand-up wrestling methods where the athletes grease up. In the tropics, shirtless folks get greasy just based on body oils and sweat. Nice to see a video using this topic for submission wrestling. I had to laugh though because lubriderm absorbs after a bit. I know in India and the Philippines, coconut oil was the standard oil used of this - now that's deep fried. I'm a BJJ one stripe white belt but a Judo brown. For stand up wrestling where the goal is doing throws from stand up it 100% changes the game greatly. I think lubriderm would change things but like for Jedi not so much. Also when we are doing it, we are shirtless, so the rash guard also greatly changes things.

    To be fair. Nobody has accused anyone of greasing right before a match. The accusations are that they greased way before the match and then during the match the lotion comes out of the skin. That's why it's not as easily detectable before the match.

I watch MMAShredded and am used to his voice over, I felt like the subtitles were a bit more of a hindrance because I couldn't read the text and watch your moves in the same time (so I had to rewind it over and over). I'm just saying it because I would guess creating all those subtitles is a more time consuming thing than simple telling us what you are doing. But maybe you heard this a thousand times already, just thought I might give you a feedback that could help you. Anyways, great video!!

I find that once things get slimy, limb attacks are pretty much useless. However, chokes become easier because you can slide under their chin and they can’t hand fight effectively without any grip.
