the fact that renee said she doesnt get most parts she auditioned is so shocking, yet so true. shes such an amazing actress, but at the end its such a competitive world and it has little to do with your ability and more what the director envisions.
I always interpreted Eliza’s gasp as her realizing her story had been told. I see it this way because Eliza outlived everyone she ever loved, telling their stories but having no one to tell her’s.
Solid Gold in this video: Jazzy scatting “Chris, would you just stop talking! I didn’t ask for your opinion man!” Lin talking about the world and it’s flaws around Hamilton changing. Daveed’s shirt and Anthony’s hat “We wasn’t making any money!” “Can I get an amen? Amen.” “substitute teaching kids is basically just making sure that the kids don’t die” Satisfied screwing _everyone_ up. “I’ll be with my popcorn.” *chews* “All caps.” “All caps.” “All caps.” Leslie praying for his daughter.
Satisfied consistently blows my mind every time I think about everything they do in that number, and it’s definitely one of the first things I mention to people when I talk about how amazing it is.
I met Daveed Diggs in 2015 after seeing Hamilton and he was sooo nice. Its such a long and intense performance and I’m sure he was so exhausted but he still took the time to sign everyone’s playbill and took pictures with everyone who wanted one. It was cold, it was late, and he was tired but he didn’t show it and I will ALWAYS appreciate his kind attitude ❤️❤️

I loved getting a substitute in science because we just watched bill bye on our topic/unit and the sub either didn’t care or didn’t know because some of us also had snacks even though our safety contract says no food in science.
As an actual teacher- yup that's all I expect of my subs. If they actually teach, I'm shocked. Oftentimes I hope they don't try to teach because they never do it right! Through no fault of their own, but nobody knows how to teach everything without specific instruction
“By the end of the show I had said 500 prayers for my little girl and she wasn’t even here yet.” Geez wow thanks.... I wasn’t planning on crying today but here we are
I literally love how they’re all just theatre kids, but in adult bodies. They’re so quirky and cool. 😂 Edit: Just to clear some stuff up. This was not an insult guys. I myself am a theatre kid and was just comparing them to how some of many theatre kids act. Very sorry if this came off as if I were insulting them or making fun of them.
Aww man. It’s not really easy to shake for some. Once you’ve been a theatre kid (at any age) it kinda pulls at your heart. I love how much they embrace it too!
why is no one talking about when Lin said "If you don't survive the act, you're not getting to go to the second act" i don't know why but this killed me lmaooooo
I like how Lin mentions slavery here. A lot of people say that we shouldn't support Hamilton because he owned slaves or something like that, but it's mentioned and Lin made sure it was known. It fills my heart to know that no one is turning a blind eye to history.
Not trying to prove you wrong or anything, just wanting to share a bit of what I've recently learned which no one will listen to since I have no hamilfan friends... :) A. Hamilton himself didn't actually own any slaves and he supported the abolitionist movement. Still, in the time that he practiced law, there were cases where slaves had to be moved between owners, etc. that he was involved in. Also, his mother did own 2 slaves which he did not inherit due to his being conceived out of wedlock. Hope you found this interesting! I'm a huge nerd lol 😅😂
Cindy F he bought and gave slaves to his in-laws and almost inherited slaves when his mother passed, but since he was illegitimate he wasn’t allowed to have them. It was only until later in his life did he start advocating for the freedom of slaves.
A lot of the real people played in the musical here were white slave owners/traders (most, in fact), but they did their best to tone down the racism but still acknowledge it, which I think was really powerful. I'm just glad they didn't ignore it or pretend it didn't happen.
Why are the things that Leslie says always so profound and meaningful? Like seriously, his stories about "The Story of Tonight" and "Dear Theodosia" are so heart-warming. He's such a great speaker.
Anthonys laugh after Oak said “Some people are even doing it on stage” You just knowwwwww there’s a story there. There’s a story and I want to knowwwww.
I was laughing so hard--- I can't believe that's true! I would think they have to focus so hard to get the blocking, choreography, lines, notes, and facial expressions RIGHT
@@rhemacreel1339 probably after doing it every night for months it just becomes so automatic that they can be singing their hearts out while thinking "mmm, I think I'll have Chinese for dinner tonight"
Renée is a literal queen on this Earth. Even watching her on this Zoom call she oozes talent and charisma. She deserves so many future roles, I would watch a movie or TV show just for her!
Even my mom said in the literal first minute of her singing in The Schuyler sisters that she has an amazing voice when I watched the Hamilton film with her
Someone said at the end when Eliza sees Lin, he’s no longer playing Alexander, he’s himself and Eliza gasps when she sees that he told her story and she feels like it’s ok to go into the light now AND I HAVENT BEEN THE SAME SINCE lol
In "Dear Theodosia" I'm ALWAYS thinking about their fates. Philip dies in a duel with a devil, and Theodosia gets lost at sea. Both of their fathers outlived them. That may just be my depression taking over my train of thought, but ever since I saw the death of Philip and read about Theodosia, I've never been able to hear that song the same way.
Jasmine: I loved singing "Say no to this" Anthony: *calm down she's just singing a song and making out with ur boss nothing to get pissed about stay calm*
About Eliza's gasp, I saw a lot of people saying Lin was playing himself and showing Eliza that her story was told. It's a really powerful message and I am here for it.
as a black girl in musical theater this show has means so much too me. u normally never see many people of color in broadway plays and having a POC right the play and most of the cast are POCs fills me up with so much passion and hope, that one day i could be one of those people on broadway. Edit: HOLY MAC N CHEESE THX 4 THE LIKES💘💘💘
Amber Mankins The main theory is she saw the audience and she realised/found out that Hamilton and her story had been told and would go down in history. Or that it’s her like last breath, the transition into death, but no one is really sure because she sees Hamilton before her final gasp which would mean she was already dead.
Lin said that the ending where Eliza gasps was up for interpretation. The most popular theory is that it’s Lin meeting Eliza and he shows her that her legacy has lived on and her, and Alexander’s, story is being told.
He really is humble. Saw him in the tube in London and he takes the subway in NY. He could easily have a driver and all that jazz. He isn’t that guy. Love him for it.
I realized 3 fundamental things at the exact same time - 1: this cast was sent by whatever creator you believe in. 2. Daveed's shirt and Anthony's hat...that is all. 3. Leslie's prayers for his future daughter confirmed why Dear Theodosia is my personal favorite.
17:38 had me dying, especially when oak and daveed outed him for having his phone on stage and ant talks about guesstimating which song they should order dinner... and ant's wheeze when oak says "some people were even doing that on stage". also 16:51 "please god, let there be a tear! let there be something in there tonight!"
Lin: "If there's anything political about the show..." Me: Dude, the entire show is politics. Edit: Oh my god thanks for 180 likes, I've never had this many!
Fun “Peggy” Aka Magarita Schuyler Fact: During the Revolution the Schuyler household in upstate New York was raided by Tories. The sisters ran upstairs but realized that The youngest Schuyler child was still downstairs in a cradle. Peggy ran down to get her but ran into the Tories. They asked her where the Colonel is. She cooly replied that he had “Gone to alarm the town”. The Tories afraid of incoming troops fled. Some say that a local tribe who had accompanied the Tories threw a tomahawk past Peggy to try and intimidate her; but it flew past her to the banister.
"One of the biggest themes of the show is 'you dont get to control how you're remembered' and the show doesn't escape that fate either. Different things within it will rise or fall based on where we are"
The question about crying during the play (16:13) - I love that When Madison comes on stage after “it’s quiet uptown” he’s crying. The way he says “Please!” When Jefferson asks “Can we get back to politics?” Always makes me smile while I’m ugly crying.
Didn’t Laurens and Peggy like run away together in a show I can’t be the only one who saw that part in the turntable part 12:11 them literally saying the same thing is so adorable
I saw them run up the stairs and a few moments later, the other dancers made arches with their hands and stuff and they ran through and I thought it was cute
I really like what lin said about how most of the characters in hamilton have done terrible things in real life, that's a important reminder because I have seen too much hamilton fans idolizing these characters
I think the whole point is that these men of color are playing these "white heroes." There's an implied commentary there. We're not supposed to think they're perfect. We're supposed to know they weren't and feel some kind of way about their portrayal in Hamilton. I saw an interview with some of the cast members talking about how it was painful to play these roles who had owned their ancestors, but it was a kind of re-owning the history of their country as well.
@@rysikoos2053 Ugh, I can't find it! It was years ago that I saw that, and it wasn't the main focus of the interview- it just seems way more relevant now! I'll keep looking

I have been kind of hating on Hamilton for years. I thought it seemed overrated, nothing can be THAT good. Every short clip I saw I was like “people like this???” I wanted to see it for myself but paying for a ticket was OUT of the question. Finally watched it last night. Blown away. I can’t believe how wonderful it is. The pure talent of every single person involved! Thank you so much for releasing this for the masses!
Yup, i didn't want to do the whole thing unless I got to see it. And seeing it on Disney+ honestly gave me a little faith in everything again. It really is that good. And this cast, no wonder this blew them all up!
I’m in this crowd. My little sister had me watch the first two songs and I was a bit snarky saying it was like a bad high school assignment. “Rewrite this scene of Shakespeare like a cowboy”. Then I watched it all the way through. Three times now. It’s truly a genius piece of art. ❤️
I don’t know about anyone else, but my favorite scene was Phillip’s death because Alexander and Eliza are holding him and hushing him, singing with him, and I realized that yes it was acting, but a real person had to go through that and it completely changed my perspective on the founding fathers’ lives. I think one of the cast members (I think Daveed) said that we learn about them as statues and often forget that they were young men like us living sometimes very tragic lives. Also, I always thought Eliza’s gasp at the end was a combination of grief for her husband and a worry if she has done her part that she will be able to make a difference and make Alexander’s legacy last.
As a single mom, it took me a year to be able to afford tickets in LA and then our show got canceled because of COVID 😢🙈😔, and then I lost my job and couldn’t purchase future tickets because I had to use the refund to feed my kids. If Disney had not released this movie, my family would never be able to see this incredible show. Loved the film!! Loved the diverse cast and the energy of the production ❤️ Amazing talent, period. Thank you for sharing this story, #linmanuelmiranda, and thank you all for sharing your gifts!! 🙌🏻❤️
Same thing happened to my mom. She worked her butt off to get enough money for tickets but then the show was cancelled. We’re so grateful that it was released on Disney plus... You must be an amazing mom and your fam better appreciate how hard you worked! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I was a substitute teacher for 4 years. This is gold
Lol my husband, as a guitar teacher, had a good laugh at that. My brother in law sub's a lot and would probably concur lol.

Cindy F he actually became abolishionist later in life. He traded slaves for other people even though he didn’t technically own any himself
@@cindyf460 yep knew that. Not the part about his mother though. Interesting.

The main theory is she saw the audience and she realised/found out that Hamilton and her story had been told and would go down in history. Or that it’s her like last breath, the transition into death, but no one is really sure because she sees Hamilton before her final gasp which would mean she was already dead.
She talked about it once in an interview.
Lin said that the ending where Eliza gasps was up for interpretation. The most popular theory is that it’s Lin meeting Eliza and he shows her that her legacy has lived on and her, and Alexander’s, story is being told.
When she turns around it’s not Hamilton holding her hand it’s Lin Manuel showing Eliza that her stories got told and she was shocked

Right I'm glad he didn't hide the fact that Hamilton wasn't perfect like most productions do with their main characters.
That was great! More people need to keep in mind that the characters in the show are fictionalized versions of the real people🙌🏻
I think the whole point is that these men of color are playing these "white heroes." There's an implied commentary there.
