the most important part is that germany was not on the hangover of the roman invaders for a long time and at some point in the story appeared, but that's just a small excerpt from the video, in the end it's about the processing that will never take place until the end of the events, caused by our German ancestors ... I can't quite grasp it to this day

And it doesn’t occur to ANYONE, that maybe just maybe these reactors WATCH IT BEFORE(especially with a dense historical video like this) then of course wow ya with their knowledge.
Frankly I thought this was a godawful reaction. It’s for the music she literally stops it every 15 seconds rambles for a full minute or 5 then 15 more seconds of music.
Um HOW is that a reaction to MUSIC…..
And she tries to show her blinding smarts by telling us what the stars on the concentration camp victims mean and all that?! REALLY
Wow yea like none of us knew this with the 150 Holocaust movies. Just a question why is the Holocaust always made to seem the worst and It was FAR FROM NOT.
      Pol pot??
Stalin?!? He slaughtered A TON MORE THAN HITLER!!
That’s what I mean tho, I can’t fathom so many naive and silly people on here actually believe that most reactors DONT watch a video or movie beforehand to seem smart.

It also have a different meaning, because in the Deutschlandlied it was ....über alles, in the song they changed it to über allen, so Germany is not above 'everything', but it is above 'everyone', which what I would think it means that Germany should be above any human ambition, desires and beliefs. Very impressive knowledge of our German history. Absolutely underrated channel. I bow before you... :) One little correction concerning the German anthem. It's just a play with words by Rammstein when singing "Deutschland, Deutschland über allen" and it of course refers to the forbidden verse, where it actually says "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles"...so just a change of one single letter makes it being allowed to say and sing in this context and gives it so much meaning. Great commentary from your side with a lot of knowledge of the german history. Actually this video is that much overloaded with little details, that you can watch it again and again and you can see another detail you haven't seen before.
Here are some details you might have missed:
    - the roman soldiers at the beginning are the romans that went back to the Teuteburger Forrest, where the famous "Varus-Schlacht" happened and 3 roman legions were annihilated, to retrieve the corpses of the fallen legionnaires. This is somewhat seen as the origin of germany, altough a united german nation has only been created 1871, hence the lyrics "so young and yet so old".
    - Every scene has the colors black, red, gold in it, as the colors of the german national flag.
    - the knights could be seen as the various kingdoms that existed where germany is today in the middle ages, which were defeated often, but always "resurrected".
    - the Hindenburg-Catastrophy
    - the GDR-part, where the party leaders drink champagne (in contrast of the supposed equality in socialism), normal people couldn't buy such luxury goods. Also the lyrics "separated in spirit, united in heart" targets at this period in time, where germany was ideology wise (and through the inner german border) parted (in west and east germany), but the germans wanted desperately to unify again.
    - the part with the priests eating sausages and sauerkraut of "germany". The clergy in the middle ages feasted of "germany", while for the normal people only leftovers fall down of the table. But since the people under the desk are wearing Sado Maso-Masks, it can also be seen, that the clergy has their hidden "perversions" as for example the child abuse within the church.
    - the actress playing germania in the second world war scene has a eye patch over her right eye symbolising the blindness for right wing crimes during second world war (and also sometimes after the war as well).
    - the Red Army Fraction that's holding "germania" as hostage.
-the clerics embracing the nazi soldiars as critique, that the church did nothing against the nazis during WW2.
    - "germania" giving birth to the dogs: those are leonbergers, a german breed that got nearly extinct after the second world war. It may symbolize, that germany was close to be eradicated after the war, but instead the germany and the germans of today had been "born". That is also emphasized with the doctor wearing clothes resembling the red robe and hat of a judge of the german constitutional court, as the base of the modern germany is the "Grundgesetz", the german constitution.
    - there is a scene, where left wing extremists throw over a car, a symbolism for violent acts of left wing extremists, but there is a second, where a nazi is shown in light together with them. That may be mentioned, that left wing extremists are in no way better than the nazis in their "terror" and the mindset of those left wing extremists in using acts of violence for their means is only "nazis in other clothes" or that in the end, they use crime, brutality and murder, the same way the nazis did. It's the so called "Hufeisentheorie", horse shoe theory.
    - the band members (and the actress of germania!) holding the leonberger puppies behind the red robe doctor: everyone of them is a german, standing behind the german constitution.
    - "germania" drifting in space: the unknown future of germany.
These are some details and my interpretation of it. But as I said, there are tons of details and different possible interpretations.

The first time you see people eating of "germany" shows some people looking like french to the left. probally refering to the constant invasions of the french into the german nations, which ultimatly led to the forming of the German empire.
The scene with the monk/ religues people could be a reference to the forming of Protestanisme.
      Groetne uit Limburg (NL)

    • @traylor2502

      Adding a couple thoughts.
"Every scene has the colors black, red, gold in it, as the colors of the german national flag." Not just the scenes, but also Germania. Her skin is black, her armor is red and gold... Except when her dress represents different colors, from the times when the German flag had different colors.
"the priests eating sausages and sauerkraut of "germany"" - that's the 30 years war. For a split of a second you can see Prussian soldiers drinking bier next to the priests feasting on Germania, below her is the people of Germany burning in hell.
"there is a scene, where left wing extremists throw over a car" that's a reference to the May Day riots in 1987. You can see a Nazi helping to roll the car and then a communist throwing a Molotov cocktail at it. It shows how the two extremes are inciting hatred and chaos in Germany.
Germania in the glass coffin is Snow White. A reference to the Grimm brothers, and Sonne.
The band members wearing suits, they are the unseen German Elite, the Aristocrats. They are pushing the crippled Germania through the replica of the Holocaust memorial in Berlin.
Germans would die for each other, but would also kill each other for no reason. That's it.

In the original it says "Deutschland über alles", here "Deutschland über allen" so it is not from the forbidden verse but everyone understands the allusion

If that's what they mean it would depict showing dog breeding as weapons/material for war which is messed up and sad.

The actress who plays Hermanna was born in East Germany the day the Berlin Wall came down ... Rammstein ALWAYS puts multiple layers in their videos. I loved how they start with Roman soldier's first encounter with the Germanic horde, who were brutal pagans (as were the Celts in Britain who gave the Romans hell)... They summarized all of that in one visual of roman dead hung in the tree's and hermanna cutting off a head of a roman soldier....EPIC

He sings "Deutschland über allen" The part of the anthem where you have referred to was "Deutschland über *alles* " which was not meant that way as the the nazis used it. At that time, when the anthem was created they wanted so bad one nation ( and not these bunch of kingdoms)
But what a great reaction. You picked up a lot of things correctly.

    • @MrRavellon
      @MrRavellon 2 роки тому +1

The subtle difference is, "über alles" is closest to "above everything" and "über allen" is closer to "above everyone"
Hammers the point that when you place nation above everything you also place nation above that nation's people. Ignoring the fact that nation *_is_* its people

Maybe a little detail that many people have missed. The Main Colors in the whole video are Black, Red and Gold(yellow).... The colors of the german flag, and they are along the video.
Sometimes a black background, with red lasers and a golden armor... sometimes black leather jacket, goldengun and red gloves... sometimes red lasers, a shadowed person and golden sparks, ....
My favourite part is during the outro (in your reaction video at 16:20) the eyes from Flake, Till, Paul and Oliver.... they are full of respect what happend.... they are also not looking away... they are looking on what happend with a lot of respect! Klare Antwort: Nein. I assume it was already mentioned:
The black lady represents "Germania" - personification of Germany
The romans got ambushed by the Germanic tribes ( Battle for the Teutoburger Wald - Varusschlacht - the place it not sure on the spot until today). It is assumed it was not a single battle but attacks again and again. Herman/Arminius destroyed a large part of the overall Roman army. After this the Romans still tried to conquer Germania.
of course the middle ages and its battlefields. Germania is wearing a golden armor, with her black skin and the red background colour we get the modern flag of Germany. I assume its a reference to the "Holy Roman Empire" - aka Heilige Römische Reich deutscher Nationen ( +German Nations)
We see the roaring twenties - to mention are the political fights between the left and the right groups on the streets. While others, well, were fighting much less. Germania is wearing all the nice stuff. She is what we see in era. The glamour the glitter, while the fall was incomming
Yes, it is the Weimarer Republik - Weimar Republic
Followed up with the crash of the Hindenburg
Next we see scenes of the German Democratic Republic. The GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany were seperated for decades after the WW2. In the East (GDR) there was only one party in charge all the time. Actually it was a dictatorship with a lot of espionage against its inhabitants. While many goods were not available to the masses, the top lived quite well and chased any critics
Funny to this, the go on with the clerical history of Germany. There was quite a mess there. The churches in the past were landholders like the nobles. And they pressed people to work and even when people starved they feasted on Germania
We have a lot of blood in our history
Much less funny: the vision into the concentration camps. Germania is blind on one eye - many people were telling they never noticed the deportation or the mass execution of the Jews. But there were even masstrails over the land, there were chaisings by private persons hunting jews who escaped from a bombed train. The Celle Massacre was one of those incidents. Of course everybody was in the resistance [sic]. But in this video there is a link to the production of the Vergeltungswaffe- rockets that were fired against Great Britain. So Jewish people had to suffer to hurt those who might helped them later. Oh, and it does not matter if you were believing/practioning Jew, it was the matter how much "Jewish Blood" you had in you. People with the purest Jewish blood were on highest priority to eliminate than those with just one Jewish parent and so on. Bitter to know, the so called "Rosa Winkel" (the pink triangle) paragraph, so the crime of homosexual acts were deleted from the books many years later. So many victims had no chance getting any amends from the state.
"Deutschland Deutschland über alles" is part of the "Lied der Deutschen", only the third verse is our anthem today. It is not forbidden to sing it all but very much frowned to do so. When it was written there was no united Germany. So it was about the idea of one country. It was just patriotic and idealistic in this time. But it became much more of this "über allen" - over all people. So it got a very negative vibe. And in the song he speaks it out loud.
The other verse is frowned because the borders it mentiones are not German today. So it does not make much sense when you dont want to go to war. And the second verse, well, singing about women, whine and singing dont make the best anthem. Especially when you compare it with Unity, Justice and Freedom as a goal to seek
Oh the burning books came from the churches and the Nazis. To things are mixed together. tbh, there were some disgusting relations between the Vatican and the Nazis going on. Even after the ware. Just look up for rat lines
So, we go on, in the 1970s a terror group took Germany as hostage. And some people were taken as hostage quite literelly. Martin Schleyer and others. Around the RAF (Rote Armee Fraktion - Red Army Faction, you might wanna look up for "Baader Meinhof Komplex") a lot of strange stuff happened. It's not totally clear how much even officials had to do with it. Some murders could have been prevented. And the death of some of the terrorists was quite obscure. Even today not everyone of them was cought. Overall you might heared of the GSG9. It's a German special unit for terror incidents and hostage taking. They were acting in 1977.
When they used the word "Übermenschen" they used the "Über" again and again, and came with "überdrüssig" so "tired of (so called) Übermenschen". And for the vast majority, we are more than tired of those kind of people.
The Jews shooting the Nazis can be seen as a connection to the "warsaw ghetto uprising" or simply is related to the who rises high will fall deep.
Over all, we Germans have a quite complicated relationship with our country. What I like about the video, they showed us a lot about German history. And it was brutal. And it should be, because the history was brutal I personally refer to Schopenhauer on this point who called national pride the cheapest sort of pride.

This was by far the best analysis of this video. (apart from historians) And believe me, I've seen almost all of them.
You are the first to notice the reference to german Submarine.
You have seen much more than most Germans. And analyzed correctly.
A few more things that may have escaped you.
Germania always wears the German colors. Black, red and gold. In the concentration camp scene she wears the eye patch sometimes on the right side and sometimes on the left side.
Blind on the right eye means not seeing the danger posed by neo-Nazis. On the left side just to underestimate communism.
With the Puppies it concerns the race Leonberger. After the 2nd World War there were only 5 of them.
That Germania brings these to the world, stands for the rebirth of Germany after the war.

Yeah your history is phenomenal. You caught more of what is shown in this video than some American historians I've seen react to it. So did I, but I'm very unusual by American standards. I think you are also entirely right to recognize parallels between the Weimar period, and now. Although, I suspect that it may well be America that goes down the dark road this time around. I've interpreted the hanging scene, given that it's the band members hanging the band members, as a statement about what Germany did to itself. The subject matter is very touchy, but I think being from the former East Germany, the band has a particularly interesting perspective about these things. Overall, your understanding, and analysis are way beyond what I've seen from reactions to this video, so you've definitely gotten a new subscriber.

Just found your channel tonight and I loved your reaction to this song. You going over some of the hundreds of things Rammstein slipped into this song and video honestly enhances the experience. So thank you for doing that. As an American, we don't get a lot of European history in our education system. I took German language classes in High School from a teacher that grew up in East Germany, and learned some history from her, but not nearly as much as I would have liked to learn. This song is a way to learn both from the reactors and their commenters. Ironically, that teacher was the one who introduced me to Rammstein with Rosenrot and Engel. I remember going home adter school that day and discovering Sonne which was a life changer. Been a Rammstein fan ever since even if I don't know the language enough to catch things in the songs.
I cant really comment on things you missed. You definitely know the history far better than I do. I will say though, some of the scenes resonate in a familial sense to me. And I mean no disrespect to the people of Deutschland, this is a song about your country and history and I know that and dont wish to insult you with Americanizing it; but I feel like America of today is ignoring the lessons of history, including ones being shown in this video and I know many people who would say America over all in the same way that line Deutschland uber allen (is it allen or alles?) was intended by the Nazis. And as such, I can understand a feeling of wanting to love but also wanting to condemn your country. So I feel a sort of connection with this song beyond it just being incredible to listen to.
Anyway, thank you for the reaction and breakdown. It was a very enjoyable video and I look forward to more 😀

A little thing, that usually nobody sees in the video. At the beginning of the Holocaust scene, where you stop the video. Germania wears an eye patch, as a symbol that Germany is looking away with one eye, from the crimes of the Nazis. A few scenes later, she wears the eye patch over her other eye. Thank you for this excellent video. Just one remark. The national anthem was written before the many german kingdoms and principalities were united to one nation. The text says "Deutschland über allem" (Germany above everything) probably meaning that the nation should be above those Kingdoms. Lindemann, referring to the nazi dictatorship, converts it to "Deutschland über allen" (Germany above everyone).

true. There were many things done to give the many different German city states, kingdoms, duchies etc. a feeling for an overarching feeling of solidarity towards each other. So the anthem, a commonly spoken language and a common goal were very important to create that kind of spirit. For me that line "Deutschland über Allem" always represented that kind of thought. Even if we are quarraling sometimes between each other in we end we stand together in solidarity.

@@EvyTheFox The first verse is still seen as politically incorrect (however, is not strictly forbidden in principle, but has been removed from our national anthem by our government, in order to avoid misunderstandings...), but is absolutely nonsense that a few people have put into the world without knowing the background.
Because this verse still referred to when Germany was not a united country - that is, before 1871 - and should call the many parts to join together to form a united Germany. This is how Germany came into being in 1871.
So the whole thing had nothing to do with the NAZIs and National Socialism, but the NAZIs used this for their propaganda.

This music video is just a masterpiece. It was used in many history lessons here in Germany.
Some thoughts about the Übermenschen line.
Till sings there "Übermenschen überdrüssig"/"tired of supermen" I think he will say with this line, that the Germans have had enough of this racist ideas.
Followed with the line "Wer hoch steigt, der wird tief fallen"/"He who rises high will fall low" (sry idk if this is a correct translation) This line shows that, after all this terribel and horrific ascent of evil, the bad people will get their well deserved punishment. This is shown in the video nearly at the same time...the prisoners are executing the Nazi-guards.
Spectre Berlin (the director) knew exactly how he could give the words/lyrics more energy with powerful images.
Thank you for your great reaction video👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏼

"Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" is the line from the anthem. And it stands for "Germany, Germany, above everything"
The line in this song is slightly different.
"Deutschland, Deutschland über allen". It is best translated as "Germany, Germany above everyone"
Feels like deliberate point, to emphasize the cost in lives.

Rammstein is singing: „Deutschland, Deutschland über allen“. In the first verse of the Song of the Germans the sentence it is:“Deutschland, Deutschland über alles.“. That is a slight change but it means a lot. In the verse it means „Germany over everything“ but Rammstein changed it in „Germany, Germany, about everything“. For them the nationalisms was the reason for the Nazi dictatorship and therefore this past is like a dark cloud about everything, it is „über allen (about everything)“. Can you shout out „Deutschland, Deutschland“ without remembering the crimes happened in the name of Deutschland? For Rammstein it is difficult.

Fun fact, this song was a MAJOR hit on rock radio stations (and also played on regular ones) in… Poland, where Rammstein is very much loved. Shows a lot about how they see Germany history. Truthfully. Not some weird politics one way or the other.
