- In offence and in defence, in sun-scorched deserts and in thickly wooded forests, tanks lead the fight almost everywhere… but, in most cases, they are almost defenceless when attacked from the air. What shields them from the wrath of the skies is a special type of ground vehicles - self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicles, armed with quick-firing autocannons and missiles. This video is about them - or, more specifically, about SPAA vehicles found in the German tech tree; from the earliest models to the modern missile systems.

@@ramramdiramdiramram4799 I have killed numerous planes with its timed-fuse HE round. It's not that hard in realistic once you get the hang of it, not even talking about arcade. Pure joy killing a plane with a single 88mm round.

The word flak is derived from Flugabwehrkanone which means Aircraft Defence Cannon.
Flakpanzer means Anti Aircraft Tank though.

@@captainedward8278 The K stands for Kanone (cannon). since the Roland does not have a cannon but a rocketsystem it is called a Flugabwehr-Raketen-Panzer (Anti-air-rocket-tank) short FlaRakPz.
In contrast the Gepard is called Flugabwehr-Kanonen-Panzer (Anti-air-cannon-tank) shot Flakpz, cause it got two cannons.

The flakpanzer 1 is more op than the wirblewind, It can do the same thing with one cannon and at 1.0

@@natethenotsogreat8349 It used to have a full HVAP-T belt, until they nerved it and made it half HVAP half API, but even now it's still potent enough. I recommend playing it around 2.0, as you'll have less machineguns on the enemy tanks (especially american) and you'll still be able to go through most front armor.

If you are in a 37mm German SPAA, get in close and try to hit their side armor.
This only works with the T-34's - M4 variants need to be penetrated below their hull, where their side armor is only 38mm thick.
If the 6/2 didn't have a driver's cab in the front it would be top 5 Tank destroyers in that BR

My grand total of killing things NOT in a full uptier amounts to exactly ONE M4 that I caught side-on... And that wasn't even the 6/2, it was the Ostwind with the same penetration.

Under 5.3 you can pen more of less anything of you position yourself correctly but the draw back comes because you can't aim Infront with the 6/2
I've seen German AA easily take down heavier targets, so "only air and light targets" is not an accurate statement

i use my wirbel at 10.0 and often can kill t64's, m1's, and many other mbt's
ah yes, the most powerfull AA line up in a single nation
True, but mostly because the german one is consistently good. The M16 is still the best AA at 2.0 and the AMX 13 Dca is thr best AA at 4.7. Not to mention Tunguska at top tier. The problem is all other nations have gaps where the AA vehicles are not up for the job. A few new AA vehicles could verry much fix that.

That is by far better than the wirbelwind which can shred mediums from the side and anything light or with wings, but there are parts on the jagdtiger that an R3 T20 FA-HS can pen that a wirbelwind can't pen, yet they have the same br

The G91 is for wehraboos who can't evolve past the point and click nature of the tigers and panthers

Once i died in my t-44 by an ostwind, i check its penetration, the t-44 armor all around, saw the replay, it was just one more gaijin bs since there is no place that it could be penetrated. There was no bomb, no arty, it was him that killed me.
@@otaviocamanho1135 i know what you mean with the ostwind, its a nice suprise when a t-44 try to kill the last remaining enemys on the hill infront of the lower left spawn on the map kuban and you manage to kill him after >100 shots because the 3.7 bullet mange to penetrate his horizontal turret drive.

@@n1thecaptain965 update everyone I now have gotten a 7 kill game in the ostwind 2 and all of them were tanks, and I have also penned a centurion mk 3 through the machine gun port with the turret on top of the first German m48

You missed my favourite, the coelion (flkpz 341). Once you get to know the guns, you can nail a plane from a few km out.
I genuinely like the Flak Pz 1, it’s so cute! It stayed in my lineup for a pretty long time
My dad drove the Flakpanzer Gepard in the Cold War in the Dutch army and went to the iron curtain having stare downs with East German guards
The Coelian was my favourite german SPAA...

There was a time 20mm flak 38 has 46mm penetration and 37mm flak 43 has 64mm penetration...was good times
I do want a pen buff for the 37 APHE, even if to 55 or 60 still would be good

Here, take mine. Whirbelwind is so strong Germany players use it up to 7.7 while allies have hardly any usable AA. And no, Germany doesn't have worse CAS.
I love how after 5 mins in the battle then allied team decide to spam about 5 P47s, they might kill 1-2 tiger but throw tons of SP away and give it to german AA players

German teams spawn in jet tier ground RB with prop planes and can't get punished unless allies spawn with jets. Axis teams spawn in planes more often.

The Begleitpanzer and Rholand are also Marder based.

what i learnt from this video:
i've been pronouncing 'wirbelwind' wrong all this time
German (and italian) SPAA is heavily undertiered.
Compare for example the most extreme case: The R3 T20 (BR 3.7) and the Falcon (BR7.3)!
The only advantage the Falcon has over the R3 T20 is it's APDS shell!
R3 is:
- Faster (114/28 kph vs 47/7)
- Smaller profile
- Can shoot over stuff without exposing crew
- More crew
- Quick ammo resupply at caps (25 seconds compared to 270 seconds)
- Up to triple the armour thickness (33/15/15 compared to 10/10/10)
Both have:
- Stabilizer
- High fire density
Falcon has:
- APDS
Also BTR and chinese Wirble
If you look at the usefulnes of both SPAA the Falcon is capable of taking out a few light tanks from the front, like the BMP, and other SPAA. It can also kill a few heavies from the side.
But the same goes for the R3. The R3 can take out heavies up to a BR of 5.7, while the Falcon can take out heavies up to 7.3 (IS-6, but not the IS-3, IS-4 or T-10M)
So, based on that... I'd say the R3 T20 should go up to at least 5.7. That's also where a huge gap in SPAA is, so people take it out into those battles anyways until they can get the SIDAM
The statistics Gaijin bases everything on don't apply here, because plenty of times I see the entire team from 3.7 and up consist of this SPAA...

Well my Fav Germany AA isnt *yet* in game, but it is the 5 cm Flak 41 on the DB 4500 A Truck, Fast and a really punchi gun (Using the same ammo as the 5 cm KwK 39 L/60) and even better, a loonger barrle and special PzGr 42, ApcBc rounds my 2nd fav is Ostwind and Sd Kfz 6/2

Add a top tier SPAA with terminals and/or cannon, roland can barely see anything in night fights. Also reduce repair costs of ostwind and above in AB... only nation with those repair cost for SPAAs

There are various prototypes to add in the gap between kugelblitz and the Gepard
The main thing that matters with SPAAs is the turret traverse(faster traverse obviously makes it easier to sniper faster aircraft) the fire rate of the cannon(same reason as last time) and the range of the cannon (you can’t snipe aircraft unless your at point blank range if you’re SPAAs gun has bad range)
German SPAAs in a nutshell: "The more barrels there are, the more fun you have"
German SPAA = Tank destroyers with high firing rate

I have the Flakpanzer 1, 38, and Sd. Kfz 6/2. The Sd. Kfz 6/2 is by far my favorite out of the 3.

Wirbl you can peaknout on reload and hit it. Ostwind doesn't, and most tanks at 3.3bpr lower have spots where they can be penned frontally by ostwind.
Furthermore, ostwind has APHE shells so one shell is enough the cripple a vehicle while a wirb needs to use half a belt.
Id say ostwind to 4.0 and wirblwind to 4.3.
And for gids sake give the coelian and ostwind 2 hvap
Ostwind is harder to strafe with 50 cals, the wirbelwind can be killed with a plane by anyone who has more than 2 braincells
The flakraxpz is almost like the type 93 in the sense that it can’t to squat to ground vehicles only air
My favorite German SPAA is the Sd Kfz. 6/2, not because it’s good, or effective, but it is SO DANG SATISFYING when you get a kill.
(Pro tip: Try to shoot at the slowest moving targets. It’s like hitting the MG port on the Jumbo - one of their only weaknesses.)

As there are many spaa vehicles with more or about the same penetration and caliber of the kugelblitz with full or almost full ap belt at much lower br. Maybe the kugelblitz should get a real apcr/hvap belt again

Yea gepard works well as a tank destroyer as long as you have APDS belt that has 40 shells.
When you run out it works as a wirblewind at 8.0 br with radar tracking .
Even if the Wirbelwind can’t penetrate my stronk stalinium armor, it still creates an annoying smoke screen until I decide to just ram the thing
lower repair cost, especially at top br.
