The movie's "better" than the book, anyway. Too much of the book is centered on discussions of the foundations of the future society in which the book is set. Entirely too much talking about and explaining why that society is SO much better than previous civilizations. The confidence with which the one character states his beliefs leaves me wondering if he's ever had a chance to question those beliefs or even has the ability/opportunity to research such questions. There's no real explanation HOW this future society got to where it is. I found that deeply unsatisfying. Awkwardly, no one can decide whether the "philosophy" of this future society represented Heinlein's views or whether he was holding up this sort of thinking to criticism. The movie spends some time placing the action within this alternate future but doesn't get as bogged down in the details. My first Sci-fi movie (watch it when I was 5, yeah kinda weird isnt it) and still one of my favourite sci-fi movie and movie in general, the sound track is just epic, especially when the mobile infantry charge into battle, makes me want to punch everything in the room.
Same here even through it's filled with tits and guts something a 6 year old shouldn't watch but never the less a great movie, might even say its better then Star Wars.
***** In the book that the movie is based on the mobile infantry were exo-suits so they were like tanks but in the movie they did not use that which would have been epic looking
fastold if you watch starship troopers:invasion, they wear the exo suits, its a pity Hollywood couldn't get that right. oh well leave it to japan to do justice with this dying franchise, hope they make for movies like invasion, cause it was better then all 3 of those movies combined.
***** In the starship troopers universe, the bugs are strong enough to rip through armor, even in the books where infantry men are walking tanks, once the bugs got close enough to use their jaws, they'd tear straight through. Tanks would have less mobility on bug planets and would be far to vulnerable to flanking, and tunneling. Most tanks are not designed to be assaulted from below, and when fighting an enemy of burrowing insects which can make you fall into a pit trap, it's a death sentence. Simply, In the Starship Troopers universe, Tanks are a waste of resources when you could instead invest in more aircraft, weapon platforms and - if it was in the books anyway - Mobile Infantry Power Suits to make each soldier far more effective. In the book, they specifically tell troopers, that if they are going to die, to get the suit returned at the least. Even if mortally wounded, losing the suit hurts more than the man inside.

I watched that at the cinema when it came out. I remember at some point I was standing up and screaming with hate at the bugs having lost all sense of my surroundings. The other watchers were looking at me fearfully instead of the movie. Ah, good times....
Watched this movie today. Was 7yo when it just came out, wathed in 1998 with my sister who was in love with CVD. This was the first On screen boob shot I ever saw in a movie! You want to live forever? Words to live by!
Epic, I don't get people who didn't like this film. There is so much in there, you have to watch it several times to absorb the full story. Society, adventure, young love, friendship, sacrifice, absense of class or gender barriers, utopia and dystopia contrasts...etc. Shame we didn't get a good sequel. Then again when are sequels ever good? expecept terminator 2 and Aliens.
Sometimes sequels are great. Godfather Part 2? I feel like the quality of a sequel directly depends on the director of the first movie; if he's making a sequel to continue with his vision, that's usually good, but if he's doing it because the studio wants a sequel, or worse, if the studio has replaced the director for a sequel, it's probably gonna be crap.
I remember watching this on TV late nights wit my pops and Blade would be tha next movie after. A badass movie. Better than the other 2 or 3. And wit even great humor and turns. This movie was right there wit Predator and Terminator 🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽

the reason this movie works is because it's also a _genuine war movie._ a solid action movie set in a totally absurd world. so it works on its own terms in ADDITION to being hilarious. it's ridiculous, but in all the best ways. _Starship Troopers_ isn't the kind of satire that's laughing AT you, it's inviting you to laugh ALONG with it. you know the feeling you get while watching a _particularly_ shitty Michael Bay movie like _Pain & Gain?_ where you just absolutely get the feeling that you're being openly mocked for even watching it? i never really get that feeling with Paul Verhoeven movies. (well . . . MAYBE _Total Recall,_ which i never got at all.) like if the music in _Troopers_ were terrible and corny, the movie wouldn't work a FIFTH as good. that's what i feel. this music _is_ corny, what with the military marching band snares and all that, but it's based on a solid foundation. the main driving string hook is _killer._ that first opening string and brass part. the main riff. (that's what a musical "hook" is - the literal 'hook' that 'hooks' into your brain. it's usually repeated - it 's the part that you hum over and over. in case you were wondering.)
Hey now, Total Recall was freakin' great. One of the only stories that managed to pull off the "Or was it a dream trope" well while being thoroughly entertaining. One of Arnie's finests.

Came to see the comments, was not disappointed. Just remember, the enemy cannot push a button if you disable his hand, kids. Medic!
Lol you know what's funny is my gf never seen the movie till the other day... couldnt help to tell her that zim is also mr crabs lol
Darth B00b That explains how Zim knew the best way to capture some kind of big, fat, smart bug.

Man the themes on Paul Verhoeven movies are always incredible
When this music comes on in the film i instantly get Goosebumps! All time favorite film! RICO
My first Sci-fi movie (watch it when I was 5, yeah kinda weird isnt it) and still one of my favourite sci-fi movie and movie in general, the sound track is just epic, especially when the mobile infantry charge into battle, makes me want to punch everything in the room.
I watch it when i was 6
Same here even through it's filled with tits and guts something a 6 year old shouldn't watch but never the less a great movie, might even say its better then Star Wars.
*****
Eh, I'll have to disagree with you on that. Still, it is an awesome movie.
protato911 yep
Same here man. I was 5 or 6 when I first watched this, and remains to this day in my top 5 SciFi movies
Anyone else here playing helldiver 2 with this theme?
Would you like to know more?
You wanna live forever?
***** In the book that the movie is based on the mobile infantry were exo-suits so they were like tanks but in the movie they did not use that which would have been epic looking
fastold if you watch starship troopers:invasion, they wear the exo suits, its a pity Hollywood couldn't get that right.
oh well leave it to japan to do justice with this dying franchise, hope they make for movies like invasion, cause it was better then all 3 of those movies combined.
***** You missed the point.
*****
In the starship troopers universe, the bugs are strong enough to rip through armor, even in the books where infantry men are walking tanks, once the bugs got close enough to use their jaws, they'd tear straight through.
Even if mortally wounded, losing the suit hurts more than the man inside.
playing HELLDIVERS while listening to this is the best decision a citizen can make
Yush!
+Simon Forrest For SUPER EARTH!
Now that's what I call managed Democracy! Go get 'em commie cyborg bastards!
usually I like to listen to this while sipping on a nice hot cup of liber...tea.
eyyyyyy
"You tryin' to be a hero Watkins?"
"Just trying to kill some bugs sir!"
REMEMBER YOUR TRAINING AND YOU WILL MAKE IT BACK ALIVE!
One of the best movie scores out there. One of the best sci fi films out there.
My buddy told me this movie was bad. I literally spent an hour explaining he has to watch it under a different mindset.
He will be doing his part.
yeah i popped this on when it came on netflix the other day. such a different viewing experience than when I first saw it at age 12. movie is very darkly hilarious in ways I didn't see before
Same composer who did robocop, apparently.
Same director too. Verhoeven made some good shit.
Interesting how trying to making ironic shit turned into good shit.
TOTAL RECALL
Conan was his best work though.
@@VunderGuy exactly! Rip Basil Poledouris... incredible composer and sorely missed
Just remember that the brain bug eats the brains of its enemies to gain their knowledge, therefore brain bug problobly has this song stuck to him forever
Not really, considering the song is non-diegetic
Masterpiece
this songs made me understand the whole reason that they fight
Over 20 years have passed and this still gives me the chills. They need to give us an animated series that sequels Traitor of Mars so we can get a conclusion to this story.
maybe in game ? terran command .
One of the most epic soundtracks ever made!
Who is here after playing helldivers 2 ?
For Super Earth!

We are going in with first wave, means more bugs for us to kill. You smash the entire area, you kill anything that has more than two legs you get me?
WE GET YOU, SIR!
When I play Imperial Guard on Dawn of War, I put this song on repeat and listen to it. It's plain epic.
Dawn of war is awesome
Dude this movie needs more recognition. Its CGI is top-notch, even for today's technology!
I wanna be a citizen, it's my decision, I made it.
Remember your training, And you will make it back alive!
+Falloutboy Fan WE GET YOU SIR.
+Falloutboy Fan 2 legs;)
_Remember your training, and you will make it back alive!!!_
"Do youu get me?"
"WE GET YOU, SIR!!"
"Come on you apes! You want to live forever!?"
*"Good for you, son. Mobile Infantry made me the man I am today."*
*Shakes prosthetic arm*
*Turns around on chair, revealing both legs decapitated*
"Both legs decapitated"
@@Kras-cm8bh don't forget about his arm getting poked off.
One of the greatest movie themes
The official bug killing theme song.
Helldivers soundtrack is good. But that’s because it’s in the same vein as other sci-fi soundtracks. Like it wouldn’t sound at all out of place if it was just inserted into the first Starship Troopers movie. It’s good, but Halo’s themes are immediately recognizable and set apart imo
hands down one ov them films that ya can watch time n time again. well infront ov its time n while cheesy as fuck a masterpeice in its own right n prob will never see a remake cuz its to hard to redo perfection
YOU TRYING TO BE A HERO WATKINS!!!
" NO SIR! JUST TRYING TO KILL SOME BUGS! "
"you tryin' to be a hero? Watkins???"
"no.....just TRYIN' TO KILL SUM BUGGGSSSS....SIR!!!!!!!"
From the first second this score is bombastic as heck. The score is as much satire as the movie is. It definitely makes me want to know more.
Basil Poledouris is so great. Very talented man. Robocop, No Man's Land, Hot Shots Part II, Starship Troopers and other movies. He rocks in every movie soundtrack
It's a shame Basil has passed...this is a great score.
I watched that at the cinema when it came out. I remember at some point I was standing up and screaming with hate at the bugs having lost all sense of my surroundings. The other watchers were looking at me fearfully instead of the movie. Ah, good times....
You stash the entire area! You kill anything that has more than two legs! Do you get me?
"WE GET YOU SIR!!!"
Watched this movie today. Was 7yo when it just came out, wathed in 1998 with my sister who was in love with CVD. This was the first On screen boob shot I ever saw in a movie! You want to live forever? Words to live by!
***Desire to know more intensifies***
Epic, I don't get people who didn't like this film. There is so much in there, you have to watch it several times to absorb the full story. Society, adventure, young love, friendship, sacrifice, absense of class or gender barriers, utopia and dystopia contrasts...etc. Shame we didn't get a good sequel. Then again when are sequels ever good? expecept terminator 2 and Aliens.
TheScienceofnature you're forgetting literally every Ace Combat Game after Ace Combat 1 when you say there are no good sequels.
Sometimes sequels are great. Godfather Part 2?
I feel like the quality of a sequel directly depends on the director of the first movie; if he's making a sequel to continue with his vision, that's usually good, but if he's doing it because the studio wants a sequel, or worse, if the studio has replaced the director for a sequel, it's probably gonna be crap.
playing starship troopers game and blasting this
Helldivers 2 brought me here.
A game brought you here ? I feel sorry that you’ve never heard or seen of starship troopers 😢
Was born in 89, good chance I saw it before you did lol. I just hadn't thought about it until Helldivers 2!@@Dmog97
Alex Jones intro
I remember watching this on TV late nights wit my pops and Blade would be tha next movie after. A badass movie. Better than the other 2 or 3. And wit even great humor and turns. This movie was right there wit Predator and Terminator 🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽
Basil Poledouris, one of the most underrated film composers ever... his thematic writing skills were something special really!
I’ve done my part !
Hearing this while running to an extraction point in Starship Troopers Extermination made me want to murder as many bugs as I could before getting in with my teammates
"Remember your training, and you'll make it home alive!" "Come on you apes! You want to live forever!" "You trying to be a hero Watkins!?!" "Just trying to kill some bugs sir!" God I love this movie! Just full of badassery! "The only good bug, is a dead bug."
We making it out of klendathu with this one
the reason this movie works is because it's also a _genuine war movie._ a solid action movie set in a totally absurd world. so it works on its own terms in ADDITION to being hilarious. it's ridiculous, but in all the best ways.
(well . . . MAYBE _Total Recall,_ which i never got at all.)
like if the music in _Troopers_ were terrible and corny, the movie wouldn't work a FIFTH as good. that's what i feel. this music _is_ corny, what with the military marching band snares and all that, but it's based on a solid foundation.
the main driving string hook is _killer._ that first opening string and brass part. the main riff.
(that's what a musical "hook" is - the literal 'hook' that 'hooks' into your brain. it's usually repeated - it 's the part that you hum over and over. in case you were wondering.)
Well said
Hey now, Total Recall was freakin' great. One of the only stories that managed to pull off the "Or was it a dream trope" well while being thoroughly entertaining. One of Arnie's finests.
Look at this smooth brain thinking Starship Troopers is satire. This is the future lad.
@@Reimerguns It’s a literal satire, making fun of dumbass fascists.
The father of warhammer 40k, StarCraft, Alien and Halo
...and Hell Divers 2 :))
