@countryboy3218 yes some of the wood we split you can quarter it and 2 guys can't pick up a quarter. Another thing with that small of wood I didn't understand why they didn't put the 4 way wedge on seems like that would have saved alot more time
I had done a similar thing with my splitting wedge. I put a step back wedge on top of the main wedge. I flared my wedges more on the outer edge to separate the halves of wood even farther. It is an awesome design that splits thicker pieces of wood with the taller wedge and the step back feature allows the main force to start breaking the wood before the smaller force comes into play. The design is very efficient in that you don't have to keep maneuvering or redoing the wood in order to split. Much less physical effort is needed during a full day of splitting.
If you are running only a single wedge, why not open the block up in 1 second? Good idea. Maybe they can build such an attachment for this splitter. Maybe they could offer a smaller cylinder to increase the speed.
The log lift on my Wolfe Ridge is the one feature I will not go without. Can give up everything else, but not the log lift. Like you said, is a serious back saver!
That's how we approach the development of all of our products. We're a small, independent, and family-owned company, so we literally just create the best possible product and sell it. It's a novel concept, I know, lol.
I have my Yard Machine 25 ton for about 32 years now and split approximately 600 face cords through it and it still works like brand new. Now sure where it was made but probably has lots of Chinesium in it and still works great. I paid $1850 CDN for it which is about 4 times cheaper than the new Timber OX. I guess this splitter has its place but it’s pricey for what it does. To be expected when made in the USA. Labor is very expensive in the USA.
4X price in 32 years seems just about right with inflation if the machine was no better than what you bought 32 yrs ago. If it is better it sounds like a comparative bargain.
With three people working of course it goes fast. As a solo wood splitter cycle time is not the only thing driving the time to process. I tend to split and place the wood in a tractor bucket which is waiting in the air just off the splitter table. I split the wood where the logs are and then run the wood to the shed. This means the splitter runs for about twenty minutes to fill a 6 foot front loader. Then I unload the split wood in the shed and go back. I stack my door to dry a lot loser then the pile shown. It takes me about an hour to process three tractor buckets to the shed. I do it weekly like mowing the lawn The cycle time of the splitter is a minor part. I tend to cut next years wood the fall before use so it dries a year. One thing I didn't see is if you can stop the push plate part way back. One of the ways I speed up cycle time is to only move the plate back enough to split the target. My splitter is 36" throw so I only retract it to the length I need. I don't use an auto retract detent on my home built machine. I drive it both ways with the valve. I think it's safer because only I move the pusher. Love the table, I built one just on the side opposite me so I can stand closer to the work. When doing large rounds the first half rolls over on the table and I catch the other one and continue. I cut and split 8-10 cords yearly by myself. JD4700 tractor, two stihl saws, Central boiler gasifier outdoor furnace. Northern Vermont.
I use an original LogOX tool. I can roll and timberjack logs on my own with it. Indispensable and TOUGH. I think they changed it since to deal with the pins flying off when using the pickaroon. LOL! Heh, I just bought a big box store splitter when I encountered nasty knotty black walnut this summer. Oh well. BUT I still recommend the LogOX toolset regardless of your splitter.

@@GPOutdoors You don't need to take a look at it next week. The cylinder will be underneath next week because it is a fundamental characteristic. The design of this log splitter looks much better than traditional beam based splitters. Having the table makes so much sense. The only downside is it can’t run vertically to split big pieces of wood. What sort of weight can splitter handle? Would it break if a big lump of wood was placed on it?
@kdegraa With 30 tons of splitting power, regen hydraulic valve, and a 14HP Kohler engine, it will easily rip through anything you can lift onto it and ask for seconds.
I think I’d be more interested in how long it took to get a hernia boosting 18-20” long x 30” across hard wood logs onto that table. A 32T vertical setup I’m sure isn’t as fast but … a lot of the wood I split has to be pre-chunked … split or spall sides off … until it can start to be actually “split” like a log.

Not sure why your title says Harbor Freight...Junk? I have the Harbor Freight log splitter and it is great. It does bi-directional splitting and is fast. And. it's $5000 less expensive.
I like how the *whack attack on it is shorter, cuz like on mine, if you don't stop it from going back you need to take the time to run it up to the log. My question would be how close your ran gets to your splitting wedge, as that is always issue with some log splitters that I have used. It doesn't get close enough and you are for forced to either half to flip the log over or try to break it by hand or something else, either way it's always a frustration.
I have Harbor freight tools and they work great. I have a friend that picked on me for my Harbor Freight tools, I told him I'm not a professional Mechanic. I don't need to spend the money for Snap on, Craftsman or Mac. Harbor Freight has affordable tools
I have some harbor freight tools too ....I also have some tools here that the original inventor has had stolen by cheap china knockoff companies and sold at HF. There is a place for HF tools for sure....but stealing the designs of hard working American tool companies and selling them at HF for 1/2 the price without having to do the design work is simply wrong. I buy tools at HF but you won't find this one there my friend. That's what I'm saying
My 25 ton does good enough. It wouldn’t be worth $6500 for me to upgrade as I only split about 5 cords a year. I handle some big trees, so would be curious to see how the table stands up to an oak log 25 - 30 inches in diameter.
That gnarly piece that you were congratulating the guy on being able to lift on the table, I noticed you didn’t show splitting it. I bet it gave it a tough time. Also, I would hate to be the one to put gasoline in that thing the gas cap is buried underneath the table.
Not sure what happened to the video editing on that one, but it pushed right through without a problem, as you can see with other larger logs in the video. We include a funnel with each splitter that makes refueling easy.
Ive seen buckin billy ray run a faster splitter, but this is sweet too.. It would be nice if the price point wasn't so high. The problem with american made stuff is that the price is sometimes outrageous
@@StoneyRidgeFarmernope I don’t agree with you on that. For that price you can buy 4 good splitters but I see those big box splitters last for 20 years all the time. But i noticed 1 thing that aggravates me on any splitter where the hitch needs to be able to put it in the other end too so after you get off the road and in the pile you can move it
this one does take the hitch in either end.....and again....keep buying Chinese garbage and we'll keep filling the landfills with junk. A splitter like this is just in a different league compared to the box store splitters
@@StoneyRidgeFarmerYou need to be impartial if you are going to show us a product or sell us a product. Before they started their company those guys were probably the type of guys who would buy "Chinese junk" at scrap prices and make it last for twenty years. It looked well made, great innovative improvements, but today Chinese junk is not so junky. Just my opinion, $6500, maybe it should've been double acting, return stroke, kinda waisted 🤔
@@tcmits3699It’s a premium unit and built to work. They used a Command Pro engine and not the cheapened lower models. I wouldn’t buy it for $6500 but someone will. I can’t see anything replacing my $3,000 super splitter’s speed but a $10,000 firewood processor and I don’t sell wood lol. Time is money for me and super splitter makes me save a ton of time reliably.
Everything looks like it works well and also a quick cycle time. Good job on the smaller rounds but lifting larger ones all day? I don't see that working out for many of us. Also, that step wedge wasn't allowing you guys to split all the way through......my discerning eye watched you guys being forced to pull apart pretty much every round. For some reason , you didn't mention that in your review but clearly it was happening. Hopefully they changed it back to a normal wedge as there's no reason to reinvent what has worked forever. That alone (wedge) makes it a no go for me. Those Kohler engines are kind of bargain basement... basically the same as the County line splitter I got from TSC and its really a pretty cheap, crappy engine. For $6500, you need a better power plant than that. Good video as always. whooo!!
Your criticism of the step wedge gave me an idea for a remedy to the problem. There could be a hole in the push plate for the bottom of the wedge. It would be a mistake to think everything has already been invented. The obvious problem with the ordinary straight wedge is the moment of high resistance.
sorry my man....no matter what, beyond the shadow of any doubt...every piece of power equipment on the farm gets non-ethanol fuel. No matter what, every time....why risk it for the 50 cents per gallon cost...it's just good insurance in my opinion. My dad and I have this talk all the time...he thinks premium fuel is better...but it's still got ethanol dad....."well...I aint never had a problem"...while he has 4 broken tillers he can't start lol
Good looking machine. If you had the splitter turned around, you wouldn't have to carry the splits around the machine to stack them., and get in the way of putting a new log on the table.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I thought having the control on one side would be a problem compared to having the control on both sides or in the center. It would be good to have the option of operating from either side.
safety issue I'm told....I asked all of these questions when we were in the planning phase of this splitter. Remember this is a pre-production model...the production model will be here on the farm in a week. We'll show that one soon!
yep....but I'm not an engineer and or insurance person...in the end final say goes with the company...we did have some ideas that got used in the final product....but some functions can be unsafe and of course lawyers over ride me lol
At $6400 I’ll pass! I have a log splitter that I purchased from Rural King 8 years ago and it is still running strong only paid $1,000 end of season sale. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I discovered this price😂😂😂😂
@ i’m by no means a fan of Chinese made products but I must say this wood splitter is smooth running and it never faltered. At $1000 out the door I most certainly got my moneys worth.
I don't see the value in this for $6500. You can buy a really good Kinetic Log Splitter for around $2500. Or even a commercial log splitter with all the bells and whistles for 3 to 4k. Even if it had a lifetime warranty with parts and labor, I still don't think it's worth it. $2500, maybe, but that's a big maybe.
it's semi-automatic, meaning you have to shift the lever back, and then it will move backwards until it's fully retracted. It's just as smooth of a transition and safer than having a machine that changes directions when it wants to, rather than when the operator is ready.
We preach to buy American.....then when we see what it costs to build American we buy China garbage and it ends up in the dump 3 years later. Quality and longevity costs more my friend....that's just the rub I guess
I can’t say I’ve ever understood horizontal/table log splitters. Most (a large percentage) “logs” I cut and split are 16” to 24” plus across and weigh somewhere around 100 lbs. or more. Rolling them and standing them in place on a vertical splitter is more than enough of a chore so picking them up to a “table” is quite … insane. This guy called these 12 to 14” red oak logs “big” … most red oak I cut and split I can’t get my arms around … same with locust … these “logs” are kind of like branches left over and I see no need for a separate splitter for little logs.

My question would be how close your ran gets to your splitting wedge, as that is always issue with some log splitters that I have used. It doesn't get close enough and you are for forced to either half to flip the log over or try to break it by hand or something else, either way it's always a frustration.
The push plate needs a recess for the starting wedge.
Give them a year, and China will steal this one, too!
Should try a kinetic log splitter.
Ok so what does this have to do with harbor freight. I don't see it on their website..!?!?

The title of this video was poorly written. This machine is a bad design made in America.
Impressive yep
Hey Josh thank you for the video Woo
Ive seen buckin billy ray run a faster splitter, but this is sweet too.. It would be nice if the price point wasn't so high. The problem with american made stuff is that the price is sometimes outrageous
I'm from central Vermont. Appreciate your service. Where did you grow up in Vermont?
Southern Vermont, in Arlington.
$6500!! Not for me.
I guess the way I see it is buy a lifetime tool and it lasts ya a lifetime, buy junk and it lasts ya a couple years and you're buying it again.
Looks like y'all was having too much fun 😂
No such thing as too much fun lol
Just keep you some good fuel stabilizer in it,the engine is made to run at least.10% ethanol
sorry my man....no matter what, beyond the shadow of any doubt...every piece of power equipment on the farm gets non-ethanol fuel.
What is the difference
between a LO Hauler
and a LO Splitter?
Hauler was based
on a good idea.
Good looking machine. If you had the splitter turned around, you wouldn't have to carry the splits around the machine to stack them., and get in the way of putting a new log on the table.
take a closer look my brotha...we turned it around when we started splitting 😉
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer
I thought having the control on one side would be a problem compared to having the control on both sides or in the center. It would be good to have the option of operating from either side.
safety issue I'm told....I asked all of these questions when we were in the planning phase of this splitter. Remember this is a pre-production model...the production model will be here on the farm in a week. We'll show that one soon!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer
If they put you on the design advisory board I think that means you are allowed to have an opinion.
yep....but I'm not an engineer and or insurance person...in the end final say goes with the company...we did have some ideas that got used in the final product....but some functions can be unsafe and of course lawyers over ride me lol
I liked cutting and splitting firewood. But not as much as not needing to.
That's the beauty of technology right?
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer And reaching financial goals
Hey, I love my harbor freight splitter lol
And it wasn't $6450.
I think the splitter comes with 3 men.
If you change the plunger to be the splitter you can possibly speed up discharge of the wood
not true
At $6400 I’ll pass! I have a log splitter that I purchased from Rural King 8 years ago and it is still running strong only paid $1,000 end of season sale. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I discovered this price😂😂😂😂
buying a quality American made machine like this v/s a china copy is a tough decision on the wallet....I know for sure!
@ i’m by no means a fan of Chinese made products but I must say this wood splitter is smooth running and it never faltered. At $1000 out the door I most certainly got my moneys worth.
I'm glad you've gotten good service my friend
It took a full one-hundred-man hours to chop that kind of wood back when they were using mules.
yep....it sure did. Don't we have it so easy nowadays!!
weld a cross blade onto the current splitter blade
I don't see the value in this for $6500.
You can buy a really good Kinetic Log Splitter for around $2500. Or even a commercial log splitter with all the bells and whistles for 3 to 4k. Even if it had a lifetime warranty with parts and labor, I still don't think it's worth it. $2500, maybe, but that's a big maybe.
How could it possibly be sold for just $2500? There's that much in parts and metal alone lol
looks like an awesome splitter... but out of my price range.
8:10 is when they start splitting wood for those that aren’t buying and don’t care about the specs.
lol.....I hear ya...sometimes its just nice to get to work!!
Just remember folks..its all fun and games till you spend two days trying to find replacement parts.
that's why you buy a product manufactured in the USA so you can call Matt and get the parts my friend
AFTER it splits the wood is it a AUTOMATIC RETRACTION????
it's semi-automatic, meaning you have to shift the lever back, and then it will move backwards until it's fully retracted. It's just as smooth of a transition and safer than having a machine that changes directions when it wants to, rather than when the operator is ready.
why are they not running the 4 way?? double the splits for the effort
lol...we didn't have it
Nice design, but prefer a Honda GX engine.
Available to Canadians? LogOX is very cool!
We will ship them internationally from our website. Click the link in the description to learn more.
Looks great! Does not look 5x more valuable.
We preach to buy American.....then when we see what it costs to build American we buy China garbage and it ends up in the dump 3 years later. Quality and longevity costs more my friend....that's just the rub I guess
When can I expect to be able to purchase the wood splitter?
there's a link down there...I'm told they're now rolling production models off the floor! Use coupon code SRF also!
$6450 with free shipping if anyone is wondering.
My mind tells me, to pull the hydraulic lever, in the direction I want the ram to go.
Yea yea hows the raptor doing any more issues?
Sold, gone and lost $15k!! Garbage
@StoneyRidgeFarmer what did you in cam phasers?
fixed every problem on the truck and then drove it for a month, then sold it
I have the Log Ox because of you. Now I need to talk the wife into letting me get this splitter. Will they make a lighter version in electric?
Can you Stand this up for the bigger pieces?
no...however the log loader option is coming!
Wooooooo!
For $6500, I'll stick with my second hand Countyline 22T splitter that I bought used for $750.
all good...once you need a new splitter...now ya know an American company that makes a great machine!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Absolutely, once I hit the lottery I'll get one on order right away!!!! 😉 I will agree though, it is a great machine! Thanks!
This song?! Hahahaha. Sounds like a South Park episode.
lol....yep that's me
@ Fantastic!
LogOx is coming out with a log lift soon ....that's a game changer for sure!
