super helpful as always =) Something on my wishlist is a video covering how to layer stuff. Like say you had a forest ground with some dirt, pine needles, twigs, leaves, cones, rocks .. just tons of different stuff. It'd be interesting to see how you would approach keeping the layers separate and ordered.
Thank you so much for doing these videos! Always something new to learn. I've always hated those little bevel artefacts but most of the time a small blur was "good enough". this is way cleaner!
Professor Johnny with another knowledge nuke! Love it! One of my biggest annoynaces is making a sci-fi panel type thing with a tile random and trying to place screws in all the corners. Then changing the input shapes and the screws automatically finding the corners and the screws being correctly sized and distanced from the corners. I've tried a variety of techniques but none of them i like too much. I'd love a video covering how to not have this huge headache lol
I was actually doing something like that recently. I probably didn't do it in a great way, but I used the new path and spline nodes to get rivets to show up near the corners using a blur and a Histogram Scan to create a mask that's a bit smaller than the panel. I ended up using a Value Processor node to change the size and distance of the rivets based on the number of panels in the x and y and a couple linear equations I kinda guessed at. It's not perfect though, and I'm sure John will come up with a much, much better way to do it.
This is turning out to be a really helpful channel as you're covering things that no one else is covering. Do you have a roadmap planned out on what your future videos will be covering?
Thank you! I have a giant google doc, that keeps re-filling even as I check stuff off lol. I'll definitely be doing some longer, whole material tutorials - And as I've mentioned I'll be putting up my Substance Core tutorial for sale on my Artstation once it's completed
I love your videos! Thank you so much! A shame that Substance Designer is so niche. I'd love for you to get a lot more views... you'd deserve em. Your way of seeing things is so inspiaring. I hope, I'll one day be nearly as good as you are today.
My brain is ready to study!! Bring it on! XD
LFG
I'm all for your unhinged thumbnails, they're great
The thumbnails will continue until morale improves

I've done a little bit on that in the Catacomb wall material, but a more thorough video on height map blending a great idea!

Yup, there actually are some things for me at least, where good enough is just fine. This is a pretty easy fix though - glad you liked it
You are awesome!! I'm so grateful that you started to make these videos ^-^
I hope you start making more content, you are one of top teachers on sd out there (which is know is niche, but still).

Oh I think we can get that done

@@Soulsphere001 I think it's easiest to do with a pixel processor and flood fill - I'll be making a video on this soon

Cool, I'll be looking forward to it. Also, I hope you're having fun making the videos.

Glad its helpful!
Thank you so much ! The problem has bothering me for a long time !
keep it up, I really appreciate your brief video-explanations on substance techniques :)
You may be the only person on earth who would describe me talking as "brief" lmao
best youtuber

Love your tuts! Thank you!
PS: Is there a Substance Designer only online course in Think Tank? Can't find it on the website:(
