      The only dragon type move was dragon rage which dealt a set amount of damage and only dragonite's evolutionary line existed. in gen 1 dragon was barely a type. He was wrong but I can see where he was coming from.

      However since the only Dragon type move back then was Dragon Rage, super effective damage could never be done to Dragon types, That's why it wasn't super duper effective Arin.

    • @UncomfortableSilence
      @UncomfortableSilence 10 років тому +1

      Lieutenant Skittles Which also doesn't have a stab since it always does 40. Dragon's had the advantage because of their heavy resistances.
      Of course, Steel kind of ruined that.

    • @LieutenantSkittles
      @LieutenantSkittles 10 років тому +3

      Not really. All Dragon-types can learn Fire-type moves, so Steel isn't a real counter.

      +BadPeople1100 just because Beedrill sucks doesn't mean Arin can't love it. Also Dragon type may have existed, but the only move was Dragon Rage, it does 40 damage and can't be altered by stats. It can't even be a critical. Dragon Type really only existed after gen 2 with Kingdra and the introduction of Twister.

    • @Kennisiou
      @Kennisiou 8 років тому +3

      Hidden Power (Dragon) was a more meaningful Dragon type STAB move than Twister was...
      Also, in gen 1, it's really normal to have 3 of the same type on a competitive team. Most teams have either 3 normal types (Persian, Tauros, then either Snorlax or Chansey) or 3 psychic types (Starmie, Alakazam, and Slowbro). Both psychic types and normal types really had nothing to worry about in terms of weaknesses in Gen 1 due to there being basically no strong moves of types that they're weak to, and because, thanks to TMs, it was really easy to get huge type coverage on those pokemon.

    • @jacobmonks3722

    Just going to the strengths and resistances of Psychic types, here's an easy way to remember. Ghost, Bug and Dark all relate to common fears, which weaken a minds rationality. Fighting relates in mind over matter. Poison is a disease that won't trouble he who knows the cure. Is that understood?

    I know I'm commenting on something so long ago (came back for a little blast from the past) but I think the reason for both why they made Alakazam so strong and why people figured Alakazam would be strong is because it's super hard to catch Abra. They're a bit harder to find and you have to catch them with one ball if you don't put them to sleep because the only move they have is teleport.
    I suppose it was like, at least in the older Pokemon games, when a Pokemon is more difficult to obtain, it's at least meant to be really good. Like with Alakazam where Abra's rare and hard to catch, but you also have to trade Kadabra for it to evolve into Alakazam. Same goes with Dratini and Dragonite.
