Thank you for this vid. I love that you put failed in quotes, because it’s true, failure is in the eye of the beholder. Some people see failure, others see learning. I think it’s powerful to take a risk, work at it really hard and learn from your experience that that is NOT what you want to do to support yourself for years/decades/life and then move on to something else. To me that is growth and learning not failure 😉. And I 1000% agree with you about the “no loans” mentality. I for one was lucky enough to have an entire career almost behind me before I got burned out and decided to get into candle-making to revive my creative side. I had over 20 years in the IT industry- which I loved for sooooo long. I really enjoyed it AND I made decent income. But I got burnt out. Luckily, I had savings that I could use to start my candle business. Not everyone has that, but I feel so much better knowing that I don’t owe anyone else $$ if I can’t make this business profitable (which, btw it is far from at the moment - but that’s OK ‘cause I’m still having fun 😊)
I definitely see it as growth rather failure! Sadly I’ve learned the “negative” or “dramatic” video titles get more views sadly than the ones that are encouraging… so it’s an encouraging video in disguise! 🥸🤣🤣🤣🤣
And that is awesome! I didn’t have any savings sadly but I took it slow and paid for things I’d need for the business over 8-9 months as I was testing etc so I wasn’t going into debt! And I was making barely anything even at my full time job and living on my own etc (in a fairly big city no less!) and still able to make it happen without loans/debt etc! If you’re patient and determined anyone can definitely make it happen! Haha! 😄

I absolutely loved this video, so much rang true and resonated with me, I have always said even to my husband do what makes you happy, you’re not going to be productive in a job/business that you are not passionate about, and for me personally I’ve been passionate about a few business ventures I had and just like you to many voices to many opinions took me off my course, my journey, it was literally all about what everyone else thought it should be , did it cost me ? Yep $$$ & time down the drain , but the candles ….. they came at a very dark time in my life and somehow brought me out of that was the first year perfectly perfect? Omg no 😅 but I’m ok where I am and all decisions are on me and no one else and although there are some exceptions like taxes 🤣 and I used to be an accountant, just not my own accountant lol, I love learning and every k time I make a candle or wax melt , I learn something new or jump out of my comfort zone and try a new vessel and wick and drive myself crazy , but I chose to do it so when the end result is great (after what may take a few months)🤣 it’s worth it! Thank you, I see this video bringing a ton of encouragement to a ton of people 🕯️

Thankfully I do still get to use photography for this business as well in multiple different ways. But sometimes it’s hard to think about how much further along I’d be if I had started making candles 15 years ago! 😩🤣 But yeah I love the learning process, I do hate the taxes part.. 🙃🤣 But other than that I’m glad I actually enjoy the business side of this business! I do but really only for wholesale right now! They’re nice in large quantities! But it’s hard to only make a small amount at a time. Lol
