I think the monster design for Clover was so cool. And how you didn't see it in full daylight right until the very end. It's so frustrating seeing how good these films could be, but it's being squandered by horrific mismanagement.
I didn't see Cloverfield when it was first in theaters, and I still haven't watched it to this day, but I am glad you are able to care and appreciate these movies. So many ppl love the Cloverfield rabbit hole. (I am fan-boying hard with ANDOR right now.)

In my opinion, they dropped the ball as soon as they turned Cloverfield into an anthology. People only cared about the giant monster. People wanted a sequel that was about the giant monster. When the 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer came out, a good chunk of the hype was speculation about how it related to the monster. JJ Abrams himself said that with Cloverfield he wanted to make America’s equivalent to Godzilla so it’s odd that they never made a follow up about the monster, or at least merchandised the crap out of it. That friggin action figure goes for half a grand these days.
The official Cloverfield trilogy isn't even held together but duct tape and string. It's held together by bubble gum and toothpicks. Honestly all 3 of them could have (and probably should have) been their own films.
Between the first and second films, they had a decent mystery going on. Great mysteries can link seemingly disconnected elements through a series of interconnected cascading events, but the third movie really took that mystery's potential out back and shot it by lazily trying to link everything together through one singular conveniently inexplicable science fiction event.
Yeah 10 Cloverfield lane should've definitely stick as a standalone movie. And before anyone starts raving about me having a bad opinion just remember, the only reason it was tied to this franchise was because of money. So don't tell me about the "deeper meaning of Clover-verse you don't understand" because the deeper meaning is just marketing and financial profits.
I think that I Am Legend with Will Smith could be a Cloverfield movie. It even had a lot of promotion similar to how Cloverfield did. What makes me love this as a Cloverfield movie is that unlike the others on the list this one is post the disaster, when the human race is in shambles, and the infected quite literally see the humans as monsters and don’t know that they are infected, seeing themselves as humans.

Annihilation isn't in the Cloverfield universe, it's too busy being a spiritual successor to Tarkovsky's Stalker. The leader of the previous team (with the writhing guts) even has an uncanny resemblance to the main character from Stalker.
I don’t think Chronicle needs a sequel. The first movie was good enough and had a good message about how bullying affects people into becoming evil, and gave the answer to what would happen if the quiet kid got superpowers.
Yes here for the Coherence coverage and head-cannon addition to the CCU. That film holds up rewatch after rewatch and, imo, I think Color Out of Space starring Nick Cage would work with Cloverfield paradox, Annihilation, and Coherence.

Good video, and lots of good recommendations for movies that fit the Cloverfield feel. I know they moved away from the anthology series but I still keep all my clover style movies together as my own curated anthology. I keep the V/H/S movies here as well, because several of the stories in that series could easily be expanded into a full on Clover movie. As for the King connection, I know things like the Mist would make more sense, but honestly I'd love to see a King/Cloverfeild crossover where Christine the evil living car, or Carry White are going up against a clover threat.

High School Musical clearly takes place in an alternate dimension with singing aliens who happen to resemble humans, Paddington features an evolved bear from a parallel universe, and Suicide Squad is already about ancient monsters attacking earth, meaning that all three of them could definitely work in the Cloverfield universe.
You should make a second part and add movies like Right at the door, The 5th Wave, Skyline, Pandorum, Colossal, The earth stood still, or a show called El Refugio. there is many more but I feel they do not fit at all but could!!!

The problem with The Mist is that the explanation for the creatures origin being explained in the movie. Those aliens started appearing thanks to a secret US government project named "Arrowhead Project", which brought interdimensional creatures to the earth we see in the movie.
Im going to recomend a movie that I personaly think fit perfectly in that universe. The pace it's slower for sure, but it gives a similar vibe, having arround the end that unmisstakenbly references to cloverfield universe. Monstruos (2010) a small independet movie from an english director on his bigscreen debut, in my opinion a hiden gem not many people know.

If you haven't already, I totally recommend the 2006 Korean movie The Host. Although it may not be connected whatsoever to Cloverfield, the film thematically and visually matches the original Cloverfield movie, with amazing mystery and tension as well as a creative monster design that fits into this weird Cloverfield subgenre. An extremely underrated film I cannot recommend it enough

Based on the final shot of the film & some of the themes sprinkled throughout; 'The Invitation' from Karyn Kusama would also be another great addition to the Cloverfield cannon in a category I would call 'The Twilight Zone-esq Thrillers' (instead of 'Flat out Weird'). Heck, one could add the recent 'Knock At the Cabin' to the list as well.

There's only 1 "Cloverfield" movie, and that's the very 1st one, everything else is not! But, to be fair, the 2nd one deserves a sequel , just not under the same title, because it's not the same franchise.
Watched Coherence after finding out about it in this video, and gotta say out of all the big budget Hollywood blockbusters recommended in this video, this low budget simple indie film left the biggest impression on me. The story is so good, it literally carries the entire movie. Easily one of the most underrated films I've ever seen.
Chronicle is literally my favourite movie depending on my mindset on the day you ask, it’s such a me ass movie, combining the superhero and found footage genre’s and having a generally dark tone; I highly recommend it! I think it’s so frustrating that Overlord was removed from the Cloververse since as well as making it more memorable despite how great it is, the creators could’ve also explained the connection by having the substance used by the Nazi’s be a form of the seabed nectar from the Cloverfield universe that Clover ate or something similar explaining why it became so powerful. Lastly, Bird Box is such a strange anomaly in the cultural zeitgeist; it came out, everyone was watching it and talking about it and then everyone forgot it even existed over time (including me until it was mentioned here) and it left as quickly as it arrived.

I'm not too certain if anybody has recommended this yet, but are you planning on doing a video going over TV shows that could also be linked to the Cloverfield series? Obviously Lost has a lot of connections with Cloverfield Paradox being the Dharma Initiative logo was in the Paradox Space Station and slusho that appears and all of J.J. Abrams TV shows as well. I love the show Lost and as soon as I heard the Stambler brother talking about how the space station turning on the reactor could open a portal to heaven and hell, it made me think of the show and also the fact that of how the plane gets brought down in the show by the island. Don't want to give too much away just in case anybody hasn't watched Lost, but if you haven't I would highly recommend it if you like J.J. Abrams work! Keep up the good work and videos!

Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't mention Vivarium. A very weird alien movie that had more questions than answers. The Japanese films 'Before We Vanish' and the sequel 'Foreboding' are other VERY under-rated alien films that come out of nowhere, but show a hidden invasion very well.
Bird Box was a book relases in 2014. The script for A Quiet Place was written in 2016. So, A Quiet Place should be considered the rip off, not Bird Box.

I really liked underwater at least the idea and everything about it. Guess what I'm trying to say is T.J miller ruined it for me with his out of tone humor. If not for him that movie would've been awesome. As soon as I started enjoying it he had to open his mouth and would take me out of it. Really sucks.
Bird box and Underwater are both thought to be inspired by lovecraftian monsters, specifically Cthulhu, Idk about you but this is enough to make me believe they’re at least connected especially when we’re talking about clover field.
I want to have my cake and eat it, too. I don't want other existing films brought into the Cloverfield universe, but I do want an anthology series of great sci-fi thrillers that aren't connected to each other except through the Cloverfield title. Paradox really ruined the concept for me by trying to connect the films together. That was a mistake. However, I don't mind if individual films in the franchise get their own sequels...just so long as they don't try to tie everything together.
Two movies that immediately come to my mind are “Moon” (2009) and it’s spinoff “Mute” (2018). Both directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie’s son), these movies are very introspective looks at main-characters who have become loners in an oppressive future. edit: Also, “Mute” is a Netflix film.
I’m super late on this video but I had to say Apollo 18 is mid but the concept is great. And that’s most of these movies, interesting or fun concepts in a decently made film with decent acting and production. It’s a shame sci-fi movies get judged so harshly
The one main disagreement I have with you regarding linking these movies together is that surely it takes away the originality of the first film-maker and whatever vision and contribution they made. I absolutely adore ''Midnight Special'', I find it very moving and watch it from time to time because I find it so inspiring. If I were to watch it with the thought in the back of my mind that it was part of some larger story then it would, counter-intuitively though it might sound, detract from the movie itself. It's not the only one you mentioned, there were others included in your list, but I would argue against them being included in some meta narrative for the same reason. Before you know it, wide ranging SF ideas start coagulating into a Marvel comic-like franchise. From what I gather, that is not turning out so well.
Another work/story that could fit with the Cloverfield universe is the ARG "The Sun is Vanished". Man, that story and ambientation, along with the reports, photos and videos found footage of this ARG seem to be reports and the perspective of another person in another part of the United States during the events of the first Cloverfield movie. It could be a genelate alien invasion that we can't realise because the point of the view from the characters of the first movie.
I could imagine Event horizon being the first one in the series, opening gates between realities causing echoes stretching through space and time through different realities the moment they fired up the black-hole drive, and that leaves the event horizon as the focal point of it all, allowing weird forms of science and probabilities that never should have occurred happen and succeed, where they would have failed in a 'normal' situation. Destroy the EH and end the insanity. It allowed the Cloverfield bebeh to fall through to a different reality, the Sheppard array to do what it was never designed to do, being propelled through different realities every time it was activated and all the stuff crossing sci-fi to reality. Hey, maybe it literally connects the place where all of human consciousness, and ideas/imagination comes from, that's why we have created all the things we have since way back...
Isn't "Anihilation" actually an adaptation with its own continuity? I know these are just speculations for fun, but I'd say this would rule out "anihilation" being a part of this franchise.

I think the idea of you making a hypothetical Cloverfield sequel is a great one, you should do it
Based on the final shot of the film & some of the themes sprinkled throughout; 'The Invitation' from Karyn Kusama would also be another great addition to the Cloverfield cannon in a category I would call 'The Twilight Zone-esq Thrillers' (instead of 'Flat out Weird').
Heck, one could add the recent 'Knock At the Cabin' to the list as well.

Watched Coherence after finding out about it in this video, and gotta say out of all the big budget Hollywood blockbusters recommended in this video, this low budget simple indie film left the biggest impression on me. The story is so good, it literally carries the entire movie. Easily one of the most underrated films I've ever seen.

Chronicle is literally my favourite movie depending on my mindset on the day you ask, it’s such a me ass movie, combining the superhero and found footage genre’s and having a generally dark tone; I highly recommend it!
I think it’s so frustrating that Overlord was removed from the Cloververse since as well as making it more memorable despite how great it is, the creators could’ve also explained the connection by having the substance used by the Nazi’s be a form of the seabed nectar from the Cloverfield universe that Clover ate or something similar explaining why it became so powerful.
Lastly, Bird Box is such a strange anomaly in the cultural zeitgeist; it came out, everyone was watching it and talking about it and then everyone forgot it even existed over time (including me until it was mentioned here) and it left as quickly as it arrived.

I'm not too certain if anybody has recommended this yet, but are you planning on doing a video going over TV shows that could also be linked to the Cloverfield series? Obviously Lost has a lot of connections with Cloverfield Paradox being the Dharma Initiative logo was in the Paradox Space Station and slusho that appears and all of J.J. Abrams TV shows as well. I love the show Lost and as soon as I heard the Stambler brother talking about how the space station turning on the reactor could open a portal to heaven and hell, it made me think of the show and also the fact that of how the plane gets brought down in the show by the island. Don't want to give too much away just in case anybody hasn't watched Lost, but if you haven't I would highly recommend it if you like J.J. Abrams work! Keep up the good work and videos!
The Bay from 2011 & Skinwalker Ranch from 2013 could be good contenders for the Cloverfield universe.
If we’re talking about the Paradox - I feel like Jordan Peeles Nope could be a part of it. The alien in Nope almost looks like an Overlord of sorts - maybe the creator of Clover and Clovers parents.

I remember when the teaser for Super 8 first dropped and the JJ Abrams was attached to the project people were 100% certain it's a new Cloverfield movie and it probably should have been tbh.
What if Mission Impossible 3 (also directed by Abrams) is a Cloverfield movie? Like the plot with the Rabbit's foot? Was Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character dealing with alien technology? Does Tom Cruise have thetan levels?
I'd add: Star Trek, Hogan's Heroes, My Little Pony, Scarface, Legally Blonde, Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street, Brazil, and Metropolis. Because why have an actual identity that is well conceived and executed, when you can just let your fanfic base vomit out inane ideas to give your 3 slapdash films the illusion of depth?

Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't mention Vivarium. A very weird alien movie that had more questions than answers. The Japanese films 'Before We Vanish' and the sequel 'Foreboding' are other VERY under-rated alien films that come out of nowhere, but show a hidden invasion very well.
Bird Box was a book relases in 2014. The script for A Quiet Place was written in 2016. So, A Quiet Place should be considered the rip off, not Bird Box.
I just wanna know how the HELL overlord would tie into cloverfield. overlord was so strange and such a sick movie - I loved it but I can’t fathom how the two are tied together. Overlord was like Resident Evil nemesis or some shit.

I really liked underwater at least the idea and everything about it. Guess what I'm trying to say is T.J miller ruined it for me with his out of tone humor. If not for him that movie would've been awesome. As soon as I started enjoying it he had to open his mouth and would take me out of it. Really sucks.
Bird box and Underwater are both thought to be inspired by lovecraftian monsters, specifically Cthulhu, Idk about you but this is enough to make me believe they’re at least connected especially when we’re talking about clover field.
I want to have my cake and eat it, too. I don't want other existing films brought into the Cloverfield universe, but I do want an anthology series of great sci-fi thrillers that aren't connected to each other except through the Cloverfield title. Paradox really ruined the concept for me by trying to connect the films together. That was a mistake. However, I don't mind if individual films in the franchise get their own sequels...just so long as they don't try to tie everything together.

Two movies that immediately come to my mind are “Moon” (2009) and it’s spinoff “Mute” (2018). Both directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie’s son), these movies are very introspective looks at main-characters who have become loners in an oppressive future.
edit: Also, “Mute” is a Netflix film.

I’m super late on this video but I had to say Apollo 18 is mid but the concept is great. And that’s most of these movies, interesting or fun concepts in a decently made film with decent acting and production. It’s a shame sci-fi movies get judged so harshly
The one main disagreement I have with you regarding linking these movies together is that surely it takes away the originality of the first film-maker and whatever vision and contribution they made. I absolutely adore ''Midnight Special'', I find it very moving and watch it from time to time because I find it so inspiring. If I were to watch it with the thought in the back of my mind that it was part of some larger story then it would, counter-intuitively though it might sound, detract from the movie itself. It's not the only one you mentioned, there were others included in your list, but I would argue against them being included in some meta narrative for the same reason. Before you know it, wide ranging SF ideas start coagulating into a Marvel comic-like franchise. From what I gather, that is not turning out so well.
Another work/story that could fit with the Cloverfield universe is the ARG "The Sun is Vanished". Man, that story and ambientation, along with the reports, photos and videos found footage of this ARG seem to be reports and the perspective of another person in another part of the United States during the events of the first Cloverfield movie. It could be a genelate alien invasion that we can't realise because the point of the view from the characters of the first movie.

I could imagine Event horizon being the first one in the series, opening gates between realities causing echoes stretching through space and time through different realities the moment they fired up the black-hole drive, and that leaves the event horizon as the focal point of it all, allowing weird forms of science and probabilities that never should have occurred happen and succeed, where they would have failed in a 'normal' situation. Destroy the EH and end the insanity.
It allowed the Cloverfield bebeh to fall through to a different reality, the Sheppard array to do what it was never designed to do, being propelled through different realities every time it was activated and all the stuff crossing sci-fi to reality. Hey, maybe it literally connects the place where all of human consciousness, and ideas/imagination comes from, that's why we have created all the things we have since way back...

Isn't "Anihilation" actually an adaptation with its own continuity? I know these are just speculations for fun, but I'd say this would rule out "anihilation" being a part of this franchise.
