- Filmed on Monday, December 4 2023, I drive around Little Rock, AR to see what's going on.
Little Rock was named for a stone outcropping on the bank of the Arkansas River used by early travelers as a landmark, which marked the transition from the flat Mississippi Delta region to the Ouachita Mountain foothills.
Travelers referred to the area as the "Little Rock". Though there was an effort to officially name the city "Arkopolis" upon its founding in the 1820s, and that name did appear on a few maps made by the US Geological Survey, the name Little Rock is eventually what stuck.
Little Rock Nine were the nine African American students that desegregated Little Rock Central High School in 1957 after the Little Rock School Board voted to begin the areas desegregation, in compliance Brown v. Board of Education. On September 4, 1957, the first day of school at Central High, a white mob of segregationist protesters physically blocked nine black students from entering the school.
Governor Orval Faubus deployed the Arkansas National Guard to support the segregationists, and only backed down after Judge Ronald Davies of U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas granted an injunction from the U.S. Department of Justice compelling him to withdraw the Guard.
Angry mobs began rioting when the nine black students began attending Central High School. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, on the request of Woodrow Wilson Mann, Little Rock's mayor, deployed the 101st Airborne Division to the city and federalized the Arkansas National Guard to protect the students and ensure their safe passage to the school.

Nice looking city, beautiful fall color! I really like the weather in the southeast.
Little Rock is a very pretty town. I love it.
Merry Christmas. Thanks for your perseverance.
Sure thing, I'm gonna keep going for a bit, the viewers have voted and my next destination is Las Vegas followed by Southern California! I was hoping they would vote for Florida, but oh well...
And merry Christmas to you too!
@@exploreusacities You should do a towns of Rt 66 on your way west. I would have voted FL if I saw the vote. Especially the keys. Not so much SoCAL, but going up 99 in the Central Valley is very midwestern.
For those wondering that Motel 6 was never around back in 1987 that was originally a Best Western Inn with Hampton Inn neighboring it as you're going down West Interstate 40 through that very distinct area of North Little Rock and near that Union Pacific Railroad line and the powder blue railway overpass 🚆
Great video! So clear and easy to follow!
The Summit Bank Tower Downtown uniquely resembles The Sears Tower in Chicago 🏢
Beautiful
Little Rock can just have the major professional sports teams like, baseball, football, basketball & more!💙💚💛💙💚💛⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰⛰🏟🏟🏟🏟🏟🏟
Awesome!😮
I like this not to big or to small
TCBY Corporate Office also has a tower Downtown 🍦🏢
They are still in business?
It looks so pretty and peaceful but, why is it considered to be one of the most Dangerous places in America?
The capital building is rumored to be haunted involving a State legislator and supposedly she was involved in an elevator accident and no one knows the real story of it and what really happened 🏛️
@@JasonWoolridge-s5b Hey Hello:)
Id like to ask you whether you would accept me living there as a gay man? How is that place for gays and lgbt community? Would you accept me living there or would you have a problem with me?
I accept you and you'll be fine anywhere you wanna be able live 🏠
It's your house and State Capitols and poppulus cities will accept you 🏙️
😊
Hi there, question. What is your camera set up?
Several GoPro 12s
Looks like OKC has some building to do right outside their downtown.. soooo empty
Looks nice, why do I read about this being a high crime area?
Cause it is. Downtown is pretty but if you venture anywhere outside of it you get poor neighborhoods and run down shops
