Im most amazed by how they keep their Cigs lit in the middle of this shit.
I used to have problems fishing in my dinghy on a sunny day with wet hands, unless they use water repellent cigarette paper.
@@mrnickisntaprick yea, back when they allowed smoking while working on construction sites instead of designated areas or off site, i always found it easy to work and smoke at the same time even in muddy grade beam trenches forming or on the top deck. I rolled my own pre rolls and stored them in an altoid box, easily smoked in snow and rain as long as you didnt keep touching it. Just hold it in your mouth and basically breathe through it with small puffs. Smoking is a very bad habit, dont start if you havent, quit if you already have, switch to vaping if you need harm reduction therapy.
@@mrnickisntaprick Absolutely, I've heard some people exhale, ha!
It takes dedication apparently They're no quitters. 😜
There water proof cigs
The more water gets on the cig it lights up even fast
It's good seeing Josh captain his old man's boat! I stopped watching this show several years ago so it's great to see he stuck it out and rightfully took the helm. I'm sure Phil is smiling down in him.
He finally learned how to follow the crab farts 🤣
He kinda had to. If he didn’t they were selling the boat. It tenders in Bristol Bay for salmon fishing every summer and my grandparents almost bought it.
Whatever happened to Jake? I know his addiction issues were a mess.
@@EdsterIII think he's still fucked up
@@EdsterIII this past winter he worked with josh on the boat as a deckhand
I haven't watched any DC in many years, but from the clips here on the tube, Casey seems like a solid captain and a nice guy.
I'm the exact same, I get the same impression from him
Sig calms down once he realizes it was Norm operating the crane and that he did nothing wrong.
Yep, Sig thought some inexperienced person was operating
@@tekkenfan01 Not even inexperienced. He thought it was Karl Rasmussen, a F/V Northwestern veteran.
He needed to yell and get it off his chest, but when he realized he was yelling at Norm he changed tunes real quick, lol.
@@AshienVelor he said greenhorn maybe 🤔
@@AshienVelor you know norm is part owner 🤔
@@captainlarrynosleepfishing5350 Yes, I'm aware of this.
I commercial fished for over 20 years. Mostly the East coast for scallops.
The experience is uh well words can't capture the freedom, beauty, stress and more.
I lost 2 brothers and my only Son to accidents.
I now live in the desert.
Rip to your family. The desert is a great place to get away from it all. Hope you are doing well man
You said a lot with few words.
Greatest last sentence ever. Sorry to hear that.
Even just commercial Oystering like I did up until the C word shut down my business has it's dangers in every turn. Smaller boats, waders and rough inlets loaded down with 50+ bushels of oysters has its own way of a quick ending. I always have a small knife in a sheath I wear around my neck for when I go overboard or if the boat sinks with waders on so I can quickly cut myself out of them. I've only been out by myself a few times when my help didn't show up and that can lead to the danger of getting stuck in pluff mud then having the tide quickly come in and not make it out before the water eventually rises above your head. Those two factors are the leading cause of demise when it comes to Oystering on that level, but damn do I sure miss it and hopefully this coming winter I can get back at it if everything with the seafood markets and catering companies I supply goes right.
@Dick Mountain no, this is a lie.
Maintenance... kind of important in saltwater. Everywhere I've ever worked, cranes are neglected until they break and inspections are mostly on the cables and emergency stops. Nobody ever pulls pins.
A lot of the Deadliest Catch fans would love a whole episode dedicated to the life/ history of each boat, get into specifics of how it was built back in the day and all of its upgrades over the years etc. We've gotten a little bit here and there but nothing in detail.
That would be really cool
They did do an episode for the Time Bandit.
Titled “Legend of the Time Bandit”
That’s the only dedicated episode I believe.
@@marshall0792 Because they were retiring. It should just be a whole special episode..
A ton if not all of that info is available online. But yeah it would be nice to have it spoon fed to us.
I was neighbors with Josh for a while (not Jake or Phil, I believed they lived a couple towns over, though Jake did briefly move down the road from me after some time), we come a very slow and very lazy part of Washington. And an old friend of mine know Sig and his family so they gotta be close too. I can assure you it wouldn't be that entertaining 😂😂
3:48, the smile during those snapping fingers...its like seeing a young Phil.
The title of the video is about the crane cracking. The actual video is about Josh and the Cornelia Marie making their quota as well as Sig finding the crab again... Then like 30 seconds of coverage of the actual crane malfunction.
Poor Karl. Got verbally crapped on by Sig and called the "Worst" crane operator, then come to find out Norman and a loose washer or bolt were the culprits. Sig apologized repeatedly to Norman, but Karl got nothing from him.
The heated paperclip is a classic.
Yup you do what you have to at sea! 😎👍🏻
I remember when I used to be an automotive Detailer. Sharp bit of metal or the edge of registration plate getting to far up under the nail when your not paying attention. Your just counting the days till you know your going to have burn a hole in the sucker. Can vouch for the fact it hurts like fuck and is so good when you finally relieve the pressure.
Have had that done to all fingers on right hand twice and all fingers on left hand once.
At 8:35 - 8:51, Sig sounded exactly like the Tourettes Guy. Damn. He must have been UPSET.
"Sig loses it when..."
Oh, so it's just another episode.
I mean. Considering lost income and cost of replacing or repairing that crane. Id say he handled that pretty well. I've seen people have a stroke over less.
Sig is gonna have another heart attack.
* Fishing means bad things will eventually happen as well as good things.
Why does Sig look like everyone’s dad in the 1990’s?
People’s dads were around in the 1990’s? Not in my neighborhood 😂😂🤦♂️
@@KirbyJ89 lmao,cheers!
@@KirbyJ89 is Jamie a nickname for Jamal?
He looks like a knock-off Kevin Costner
I think I understand why he was upset though.. Captain's don't like setbacks, especially like that, when they're out fishing.😰
You said it! SET Back on those numbers call ahead and have equipment ready on shore , then beat Poseidon back to the set even if left MT to rest they should be there for pick up. ( fill tanks , leave pots, get back for repairs and retrieve pots)
It's the coolest shit watching Josh in his dad's seat. This is the reason I continue to watch this show. It's the tradition.
So happy to see Josh as a Captain. His father is smiling down on him. Too bad Jake could never get himself together. He and Josh were always my favorite guys on the show.
What yiy mean jake is doing fine and is one of the best skippers around ??
@@Sbeve_Onehe means Jake Harris, not Anderson
If sig doesn’t watch it he’s going to wind up having another stroke in the middle of the ocean! He was supposed to have given up smoking by the orders of his doctor and also no stress!
The operators only mistake was bringing the boom over and putting the head down on the deck he could have brought a little bit more in and left it floating just above the deck so they could have lashed it off but I understand he was under a little bit of pressure mistakes do happen least they didn't lose the head in the water
Sig always cool calm and collected!!
Man… I get stoked for the dudes when they pull in stuffed pods! They work so hard and put their lives on the line. They deserve it 🤘🔥
Captain: "What do we do now?".
Crew: "Fix it"
What impresses me the most is how they keep their balance in such rough seas. I know it takes practice but still, it's impressive.
Same. I don't understand how people aren't washed overboard on a regular basis
They are a unique breed set apart... they are the best of the best!!!! ain't no better every thing is to a T and the ocean !!!! ...is...is the strongest element its truly a honor to take part in there endeavor 😎☝
Calm down sig you still get to sit in the heated cabin and get pissy about everything.
Seems like Alaskan fishing boat crane repairman might be a good career choice
Well Sig's engineer is/was sitting in a jail cell when this boom fell. Not to say Norman isn't a good engineer.
What a great leader, shows nothing but pure calm in the face of adversity
You try it then come back
Ok Monday morning quarterback
500 miles from land and that happens!!! I’d be pissed too…. Probably gonna cost him 60 or 70 grand plus lose 2 or 3 weeks of fishing
I'm guessing from the context and tone your comment gives off. You've never been at sea.(please.correct me if I'm wrong) It's I VERY high risk job both both financially and in health terms. The stress levels are at all all time high. This video right here is a pretty major example but even the slightest of problems or human/error can result in a massive loss in time, profit or even life. It's no easy task to take on to captain a fishing vessel especially of that size. Making little of the situation only proves to show your own immaturity and lack of understanding of the matter.
Where the fuck did you see that? He screamed that’s all he did
Phil would be so very proud of Josh!!
Just follow the crab farts!
This show is so fascinating and these guys are crazy with balls the size of church bells 🔔
Wait, Sig is still smoking after one massive heart attack and then another smaller heart attack? What the F
Sig is a Professional Gambler. Health is 3rd. The mental addiction is 1st. The money is 2nd.
He wants to die at sea 🌊. He even lied to his hart doctor as well? 😎👍🏻
Rather like soldiers that smoke. A little luxury in a job where you can die at any moment.
Some people cannot quit. I have watched someone die from (throat cancer) chewing tobacco! Watched him whither away... Skinnier and skinnier every single day! And the man still had chew in his mouth every single day, until the day he died!

VERY GOOD
LACK OF MAINTANANCE PAYS OFF
LOOKS LIKE THESE BOATS ARE NOT INSPECTED
Any work place ,you need a bit of WORKFORCE . In today's era, there's a lack of workforce and it's not good for the near future.
When the summer bay laid over on its side that should be an hour show about how they survive.
That was scary to watch, even with the heavily edited version. If they would have capsized or worst sunk, then we all would have heard about that late 2020 or early 2021. Not when they released the episode a few weeks ago at end of 2021.
He lost his mind! Good captains keep calm at ALL times! 😳
Tighten the cable work the boom walls back into position and weld it together. Surely screaming and having a coronary it’s going to fix it
Yes, when people don’t know or understand , they yell….
You do realize they are on a boat in the water with pots in the ocean ready to be picked up. That's how they make their money. Its going to cost them even more money in fuel just to drive back to shore to fix it. I'd say that gives him every right to yell since he's the one paying to fix it
@@terryfrye4552 obviously they’re working on a boat. Just like the so called auto mechanic who throws his tools across the shop. Have a little patience and work out how to fix the problem vs giving yourself a coronary or stroke. Equipment breaks unless you invest in maintenance
@@terryfrye4552 maybe if sig spent some money on the boat and less on the cigs it wouldn't break every fucking season
Got to look at these things in Port its called preventive maintenance
Thank goodness that crane arm did not injure anyone on deck heck if it were a second to late the arm would have been lost into the sea waters for always
It’s so awesome of Pat McAfee to come help Co-Captain the CM this year with Josh…😂😂😂
For the Brand!
Ok I’ll give you that
Pats pack maybe. 😉
Josh you were just too cute in this episode when you snack your fingers and you pointed both your indexes at Casey. I swear I seen your father and his face his laughter his smile all in you. You carry him with you wherever you go. He's at home in you and you are at home with him. I'm happy that whole thing didn't break you like your brother. I do still worry about him. Congratulations young man I'm sure your father's proud. Now keep your nose clean and don't let it go to your head. Be a good person always always! You don't want future children to be embarrassed of you. Like you and your brother when your father was being rough. Just don't let the sea kill you like it did your father. Every time I see you with the cigarette I worry. I don't judge though. I have no desire to walk in your shoes. The water is too deep! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year May 2022 give you all the crabs you need and then some. I stopped complaining about the price of crabs the first episode of Discovery's Deadliest Catch.
I really believe Jake helped kill Phil when he took Phils oxycodone and Phil went into withdrawal in the middle of the season and wasn't totally aware of what was happening withdrawal wise. The stress of dealing with Jake and the lack of the pills can cause strokes.
I've been there meds wise.
Watching that was so hard and my wife and I haven't really watched since.
Regards from Florida
Lol.
8:35 hahaha!!
Man's finger wasn't even close to swollen enough to need release.
I luv watching Josh Haris he's cool
I've had to do a pressure release on my finger nail before.. it's not as bad as it looks but it does hurt still.
Some people still think you must bleed out a finger injury and can't wait to try out their surgeon skills, lol. Dr. Casey to the rescue!
Captain Sig is always cool under pressure, lol
Its about pain relief and being able to continue working hard. Ya ever pop a big pimple or blood blister it feels better after. As long as they keep it clean it should be ok, and it lets em keep working hard
Yeah this doesn't really do much for the healing process, more than likely makes things worse. But it does allow him to use his finger in some capacity again without having to deal with overwhelming pressure, something very important to them on a crab fishing boat.
Damn it's a physical job. Definitely not everyone could manage a job like this.
Whoa there Sig..easy does it!😳That can be fixed.👌👍
Jesus man sigs going to give himself a third heart attack if he doesn’t be careful
Pin broke....ears are still intact. Still a nasty fix but a couple come-a-longs, some chain and a 2 inch pin should do it.
Dude about to have another heart attack
I feel sorry for the people who have to hear this instead of Mike Rowe's low voice...
Calm down Sig, machinery breaks during times and it can be fixed. Just be glad it didn't fall on top of a crew mate
The amount of time hes gonna waste plus money is insane so we can understand
mayday get off your couch and go to work
He's probably gotta amp it up a bit for the show. Interviews with deckhands have revealed the camera crew sometimes asks the fishermen can repeat a certain thing they did, but with a stronger/lesser tone, stuff like that.
"Its just a popped seem easily repaired"
Discovery pays him to have heart attacks.
You only do that to a finger when there's blood under the nail real bad,ik his finger hurts worse now after that🤦♂️
Bring spare parts from now on Captain!
Having your crane snap would be frustrating though...
Id love to work for casey and josh seem like a great capts
Love this show ...love thd irish moderator
I can only imagine off camera case chasing the crew with a lighter and a paper clip.
the guy who choose this narrator is so on point damn
Somebody doesn’t have a proper maintenance program.
We made the right move for sure he said
As the old saying goes, look after the boat and the boat will look after you. 👍🏻
When did Shrek start doing the voice overs?
Josh Harris was one of my favorites and after his firing and what he did to a four year old is not only disgusting it’s shameful. Can’t believe he was one of my favorites on this show
Yeah I lost a lot of respect for him. The only thing I respect was he tried to keep the Cornelia living with his daddy’s legacy. Phil may not of been perfect but I don’t think he’d forgive his son for that.
It was crazy finding that out. He sounds remorseful but still no forgiving a pedo.
@@venomousfringeIt happened when Josh was 16, so Phil definitely knew about it and still let him work on the boat......so 🤷🏻
Man that dude looks just like how I remember Larry the Cable Guy.
3:27 is as close as you’re going to get to seeing the real deal
Discovery, none of your videos have the Closed captioning options. None. Which is very disappointing. I am deaf and loved this show but have no idea what gets said. Please turn on the closed caption options
You can turn on subtitles yourself on your end
@@matthewwilson5019 go ahead and try. No you can't.
@@mcqueenx75 sorry i thought it was possiable
lmao sigs blowups are always funny to me. man comes from an old money fishing family, and carried that success well into his adulthood, passing it onto his children, even. him pretending to be financially ruined every time something goes wrong, never gets old lmao. man has more money than any of us would ever want, im sure. he owns or co-owns multiple boats and has stakes in other peoples fishing as well. a simple crane breaking is a minor annoyance to him and his funds, im positive. so yeah its always fun to see him act up the "well were fucked" moment for discovery channel.
He is wealthier then all those Captains combined. Every finale season he has the highest income per quota of all the boats combined. I mean just look at his wife when she's on camera.... What crab boat captain has a wife that has hundreds of thousands dollars in high end designer fashions, and looks like she was just in the salon( full dose of hair, makeup and nails) just for a couple minutes on camera.
@@frasermackenzie7275 he’s literally the model that history channel went for with Tony Beets in Gold Rush lol..old man with experience in the business who does it so well that eventually he has his fingers in every other miner/fisherman’s operation in a 50 mile radius, inevitably making assloads more money than everyone else combined.
@@jacksoncordray1593 lmao yeah that sounds about the appropriate similarity.
Also sig has a book he wrote and published and I think he has a few other ways of making money
I just learned why Mandy isn’t on the ship anymore, November 10th she gave birth to a baby girl named sailor, congratulations sig
lmfao 7:58 "...we made the right move, for sure." 😂😂😂
I love this show and I always watch it for your info
I've done that to myself 3 times the paperclip trick
Wow chill dude
What a shame...they were rocking the crab!! Sig needs to whoa up on his stress level if he can.
What are you thinken. Poor maintenance or underrated crain host. Sheer pin has five forces at once effectively failure is enviable. Now factor in thousands pounds of crab.
Crane must have been welded / serviced at " Magone/Resolve" in lovely Dutch Harbor AK. Or was it Seward ?? Do tell !!!
This jobs too gnarly
I think soon sig has to hang it up or hes gonna end up just like phil i know he will never quit on his own i just hope mandy can keep it going strong without him!!
Is mike Rowe not the narrator anymore
notice the channel is UK
I like using a drill bit and a drill better than the needle. Makes a bigger hole and don’t have to worry about building pressure back up if it closes up. I lose a nail at least once a year.
I tried the hot pin trick once 😂 it hurt so much I hit the floor 🤣
I love the narrators accent,and of course! - it's Scottish 💖😍
It's nice to see the karma of Sig screwing people over bite him in the ass!
Start using those muscles and start hauling by hand old school style.
would need a lot more man for that
@@spatrk6634 not necessarily. The coiler still works so they're only hard part is musling the pot on board.
Poor ol sid ... just bum luck... happens to us all yo.. 😵💫🤷♀️👍🤦♀️
Worth alot more than crabs legggs
Lack of routine maintenance
Did Sig never quit smoking or has he picked it up again?
Never quit at all.
How the hell do they get those B roll shots of the boat at sea? Cant be a drone with those winds
Fake as hell and setup! They just took the bolts out it and lowered it down. Nothing was sheared on that arm.
103 yards? Trying to sound clever 😂😂
Sig sounded like the tourettes guy lol.
Ears are good just fix the damned thing lol. Telling me you don't have a 2" pin laying around?
Some things can’t be prevented or predicted!
I hope sig got the extended warranty for that new crane
He lost it but if you watch the episode. 2 minutes after that, Norm comes to the wheelhouse and Sig apologises straight away.
Which season is this in?
It’s called “preventive maintenance” and “equipment inspections” while in port.
That was a brand new crane tho
Sig should just pretend Mandy did it that should calm him down😂
I've been looking at it for a long time, and if I count the big achievements, the painful and the dangerous things, after spending a harsh time every year,
