@@ericjohns9999No, Nick sued Hansen Ent Inc and in return Hansen Ent Inc sued the Original Productions (Discovery’s producers) and their medical team bcuz their COVID protocols kept crews from being able to be seen by anyone not affiliated with the show. When he wasn’t feeling good at first (at sea) Sig had Discovery’s medical team look at him and they were the ones that misdiagnosed him.

I've always been impressed with Sig's ability to separate the importance of someone's health vs getting the job done. When it's been a legit concern you've never once heard him complain about the situation. He might acknowledge it, but it's never a complaint.

Realistically if you have the pain of a burst appendix and go get treatment right away it's not really that dangerous, infact it's the most performed emergency surgery people are admitted for. However if you are at sea, or you don't have access to medical care, it is very very dangerous.

When I worked out in the gulf, we worked on one platform, and lived on the other. When the chopper landed in the morning to fly us over, we would strap the pontoons to the heli-port to keep the chopper from blowing away. He would get the rotors revving real high and give the signal to pop the straps. That was a wild ride. Because no matter what, we always came out sideways and dropped like a rock....Damn. Guys like Nick, they would never complain, the lead by the example they set. Hats off to these guys for standing up and watching out for each other.
On a separate thought. I would love to have Discovery sit down with Mandy and ask her about being a third generation Hansen sitting in the seat that her grandfather did. You know that she has to have some strong emotions when the thought comes up, hey, my grandfather sat here. After one of those moments that scare the crap out of you. I wonder just how many times she has said a thank you to her grandfather for designing and building such a solid fishing vessel? What an amazing heritage.

Not surprising tbh, while appendicitis in itself isn't that bad if taken care of quickly, if it ever degenerates into peritonitis it just becomes one of the worst possible things for the body...the fluid that spills from a burst appendix is both highly infectious and extremely irritant/corrosive. It would essentially shut down and destroy everything in its path. :(

I had appendicitis. I have a very high pain tolerance an went 2 days with pain then it ruptured, went another 2 days an then was finally taken to a small clinic where they told my dad an me that my appendix had ruptured and I needed surgery now. So my dad took me to a hospital Doctors put a rush on all my work, had me in a mri within 30 minutes of arriving and had me in surgery within the 1st hour of getting there. After waking up the next day the doctor talked to me about how close I was to being past the point if no return, I developed gangrene on all my intestines and some of my organs. If I had waited another few hours the infection would've been so severe that they would've just given me pain med till I passed. A 30 minute routine surgery turned into a 4 1/2 hour surgery, the amount of cleaning they had to do was extensive. It took 1 week in the hospital under observation and 2 weeks of recovery before I could do much on my own.

I had appendicitis when I was pregnant with my third baby. It was the tail end of my first trimester and that whole pregnancy was an illness but that two days before I finally went to the hospital were literal hell. I was throwing up non stop, in severe pain. Thought it was just really bad morning sickness that was out of control but finally gave in and went to ER. Because of the baby they couldn’t do any scans other than an ultrasound which they said would be very difficult to see if it was appendicitis on an ultrasound. I ended up spiking a fever and once they did the ultrasound they said the appendix was so big it was undeniable and It was close to bursting. Had emergency surgery which needed to go about differently due to my pregnancy. Had to sign forms that I knew there were risks having surgery at that point in my pregnancy.
All ends ip going well, was in the hospital for a week and 6 months later (after a very difficult pregnancy) my lucky rainbow baby was born.
    0/10 do not recommend appendicitis.

My prayers go out to you Nick for a speedy recovery and also to the rest of the fleet so that God and all the angels in heaven always watch over and bring you home safe every time you go out to sea. It’s weird how an organ that doesn’t really serve much purpose anymore can cause such a huge and serious problem when it gets inflamed or infected.

The part where Sig said Nick's white blood cell count was triple what it's supposed to be (4,500 to 11,000 WBCs per microliter of blood, so multiply those numbers by 3) just floored me. That could have easily been catastrophic for Nick in a great, big hurry. I'm glad they caught it in time.

Appendicitis is no joke. Had it myself as a teen while at high school. I started having of moderate pain in the lower belly, had the presence of mind to go to the infirmary wing to get checked and receive advice. The nurse gave me a first dose of painkillers and told me to come back immediately hat if the pain started to focus more on the lower right side during the day.
It sadly did, so I was sent off home to see the doc and get scanned, which confirmed the appendicitis.
By the time (2/3 days) I got a room at the clinic for the surgery, the pain had become such that, the final night, I could no longer sleep. The surgeon who took care of me said my appendix was real bad when he removed it and that I was lucky to avoid peritonitis as it hadn't burst.
Even after surgery was performed, I could not get up and walk at all for 3 days as the pain was too strong. I left hospital 5 days after the surgery and could still hardly walk unaided.
That shit is really highly infectious and can kill. Particularly peritonitis. Plain and simple. If you suspect appendicitis, get medically checked asap !

2 yrs ago I had a fever for about 10 days I disregarded as an autoimmune flare-up. Cut to day 12 I passed out at 7 am when hub & daughter were getting ready. It was sepsis from my gallbladder. 5 days in hospital on IV antibiotics. The dominoes fall fast once septic shock starts. I had around 30 needle site sticks. Fluid on my lungs. Beeped blood thinners & IV antibiotics first 3 days. It was pure hell.

My father had appendicitis while out of town on work. He managed to drive himself to the emergency room and after being made to wait 6 hours with no more than a Tylenol to ease his excruciating pain they sent him away chalking it up to digestive issues.
An hour later at the hotel he suddenly felt no pain. Luckily he didn’t interpret this as a positive thing and raced back to the hospital where he collapsed in the entrance of the ER. They took him in for emergency surgery and luckily were able to contain the septic contamination.
After he was in recovery the doctor that sent him home had to see him as part of his rounds, he wouldn’t even look my father in the eye and treated him very rudely. Wish I could get my hands on that guy.

Pinned comment --- THIS CAN BE DEADLY -- Symptoms are similar to food poisoning. Vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and fever. I thought I had food poisoning and was ignorant and tried to be tough.....until my appendix burst and i almost died. Please don't let that happen to your or friends.

very similar thing happened to me when I was 9. I was out sick at home my appendix ruptured (didn't know what happened just a good amount of pain when it ruptured) while my mom was at work I tried to tough it out. 7 hours later I was in the hospital the staff had to run after the pediatric surgeon because he was walking out after his shift and I spent nearly two weeks in the hospital. Appendicitis is no joke
