The fact that Vegeta makes a Die Hard reference in this movie makes me realize that TeamFourStar are cultured people, since they realize that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Probably the best one after Home Alone.

And, even though it's a movie, and he was an actor, you gotta admit, falling unexpectedly, no matter how little the height, is a scary experience!

I always love the serendipity of Teamfourstar making Christmas a running joke in the movies with Turles and Slug, plus the Frieza day thing which allowed all the villains to get a reason for being there from the original OVA. Just a fun time.
This is a special case and unique episode since this is originally an OVA that was never released outside of Japan but this specific one was a remake made for 2010's Raging Blast 2 with pretty much the same plot, and has nothing to do with Christmas, they added the Christmas bit due to the time of release of this special they did was during Christmas time.
The one sad thing about the remake is that it cuts the first half of the OVA out. Seems kinda lazy to cut it in half like that when it was only about 50 minutes long, the typical length of a DBZ movie.
This is my favorite Christmas special. So many puns, extremely funny dialogue, incredibly incorporated animation and cinematography, and even has a sweet ending message
And I love the brilliant coincidence that all the returning villains in this movie just so happen to have been associated with either Frieza Day, or Abridged Christmas specials. That couldn't have played out more perfectly had TFS planned it from the start.
In the original version of this special, The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, the character that appears here as Santa was actually Dr. Raichi, a scientist from an alien race called the Tuffles that the Saiyans drove to extinction, and he's trying to get revenge for his race. The big red "Super Santa" form was actually a machine that he created called Hatchiyack, that utilized negative energy to power itself up, and Goku said he was even stronger than Broly.
By the way, “Santa Claus” in the original movie is Dr. Lychee, and his “second form” was his monster Hatchiyack, both of them entities who perpetuated (as well as fed off of) negative energies.
that Trunks bit is a joke about this movie being a remake of and original OVA(Original Video Animation) of Dragon Ball called the 'plan to eradicate the saiyans' that was then remade into a crisper version with more animation I think.
If you don’t know the memory person at the very end was the original voice actor for bulma. She died after voicing a good bye line in dragon ball super before the group heads off for a tournament.
Should probably mention that when “Santa” told Goku that he was a “danger to the entire Universe,” he wasn’t kidding. After Goku responds in disbelief, an ad appears on the bottom of the screen for DragonBall Super… where Goku endangers the entire Universe lol.

Sure (spoilers) was going to do what they did eventuallly but that could of been centuries down the line and the reason for all the drama could of fixed itself by then. And don't forget that if one specific thing was not done to (spoilers) wishes, a lot of innocent people would of stayed dead. Not saying Goku is a bad character or anything but he was warned *multiple* times to stop hanging out with (spoilers) for this very reason
@@anthonyspruill6168 His only "crime" was accidentally giving people a fighting chance to survive a threat no-one knew existed nor could even fight if they did. *A chance that was also the only reason #17 was able to make the wish that restored the rest of the universes and spared everyone in the first place.* You can't Blame Goku for someone else's decision, any more than you can blame him for Freeza destroying Planet Vegeta. It started because a completely unrelated character decided to do it of their own volition, a decision Goku had no say in nor influence on and was very likely not even born when it was made (given the ages of the involved characters).
This was my favorite Christmas special they made and I loved how they payed tribute to the original Japanese voice of Bulma, Hiromi Tsuru, at the end, she passed away shortly before they released this
I like how "Santa" believes that Piccolo is Demon King Piccolo, but everything else is true of Vegeta having too many sins to count and he is pure naughtiness, Trunks disputing the Space Time Continuum just by Time Travelling and Goku endangering everyone he knows and cares for, just for the thrill of fighting. At least Gohan is the only good one of the bunch!
To be fair.. Fascinating idea Santa get's tired of Christmas and join the Krampus work, kinda. And he was absolutly right about Goku. In a realistic setting his existence is a threat to everyone

Be it the actual special or abridged version that final combined attack against Hatchiyak/Santa Claus is STILL one of my favorite ones in the whole franchise.
I like uow each actually used their own special moves, and not just the typical Kamehameha. Its subtle, but you can see Gohan use Masenko, Trunks using Burning Attack, Vegeta using either Garlic Gun or Big Bang (i think the prior, and they didnt do the typical colors due to oversight, but im not positive) and Piccolo using his Special beam Cannon. Just wished DBZ had more uses of different techniques more often. Like shatter Kamehameha.
I love the ad they put, because it's the last arc of dragon ball super (the canonical secuel to dragon ball z), where like 9 different universes fight each other at the same time (like a battle royal). All thanks that Goku said he wanted to fight the strongest of other universes to the god of multiverse, after he said that there were too much universes. Each universe have to send their fighters (I think it was 10 fighters tops) and if a universe runs out of fighters, it get eliminated. So, yes, Goku put in danger not his universe, but like 9 different universes at the same time

Here’s a bit of background info on this special in particular that might be interesting. The special they abridged in this one was originally a video game called “Dragon Ball Z Side Story: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans”, which released for the NES. Eventually, in the early 90s, it got an anime special, by Toei Animation themselves, that served as a video guide for the video game. This anime special floated around the internet in 2000s, and since the west never got the game it was considered “the lost OVA” (original video animation) by the fandom. Eventually the special was fully remade and reanimated in 2010 as “Dragon Ball Z: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans” and released with the game Raging Blast 2, where Hatchiyack, the big bad, was actually playable. The abridged almost exclusively uses footage from the 2010 special, having just one bit from the original special when they joke about how Trunks messed up the timeline.
There's a joke you missed. When Goku says "how could I endanger the entire universe", a fake ad for Dragon Ball Super pops up. Without giving anything away, Goku does, in fact, put the entire universe at risk in Super.
Definitely my favorite of their Christmas specials, though like with much of their other writing, it gets better after watching and getting their other specials too lol. And some of the rest of the franchise, like with that nod to Dragon Ball Super that it seemed you didn't get haha (which makes sense if you haven't watched it ofc). 10:00 missed joke here, in Dragon Ball Super, Goku basically gave an all powerful god the idea to put 12 teams of 10 from different universes into a battle royale style tournament, with the losing teams having their entire universes erased with everyone along with them.
Really looking forward your reaction to the back and fourth Vegeta and Gohan have just before the end of the fight in the last episode. My favorite line reads of the whole series right there.
This is the 2010 remake of the 1993 film, by the way. Hence the difference in animation. Also, Tarble is Vegeta's canon little brother and the less said about him the better. Also also, in Dragonball Super Goku convinces God (Not that one, the OTHER one, and by the other one I mean the OTHER other one, and by that I mean the OTHER other other one...) to have a tournament where the losers have their entire universe obliterated. So....
The reasons why they are on the naughty list are kinda hard to get if you don't know the lore behind them. Vegeta is selfexplonary, as for the rest: Piccolo: His father, Demon King Piccolo, tried to take over the world in the original Dragonball where Goku was still a child and ultimately beat Piccolo. Demon King Piccolo then spit out an egg which carried the Piccolo we know. He was supposed to carry out his fathers legacy and did so at first, but he changed after Raditz came to earth and he teamed up with Goku and later kidnapped Gohan. Hence why he says "sins of the father much". Trunks: This is probably the hardest one to get. "The plan to eradicate christmas" is based on an OVA that came out way back in the 90es and was never released outside of Japan. Around 2010 the game Raging Blast came out with a remastered and cut down version of the OVA. This is the one TFS based their parody on. The other Trunks we see is the one of the old OVA, the joke being that there are multiple versions of the same story. Goku: The ad they show is about the Univere Survival Arc in DB Super. There is a tournament between 12 different universes and the ones who lose get ereased. And it pretty much all started cause Goku was so eager to fight dudes from all over the multiverse. And Hiromi Tsuru was the japanese voice actress for Bulma from way back all the way to 2017, sadely she passed away due to cancer.

Fun fact, the original movie "Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans" was never released here in America. This means this is the only english dub of this movie ever made.
Some others have given explanations, but here's mine. As said, there was a Nintendo (the original Entertainment System) Japan only game for DBZ called "Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans", the plot being that the last member of the species the Saiyans wiped out for their planet was returning for revenge. Specifically, said last member built a supercomputer, then died, the supercomputer was launched from the planet and ended up on a 'dark planet' at the end of the universe where it eventually learned to control the dark energies of the place and recreated its maker, Dr. Lychee (or Raichi, depending on the translation) and several past Dragon Ball foes, and then turned the planet into a space ship and flew to Earth to fulfill its maker's last wish: wiping out the Saiyan race. The dark gas released, Destron Gas, interfered with the Z Fighter's ki manulation, but when that was overcome and the 'shadow warriors' were destroyed, including Lychee (remember, the original died, what appeared in the game's plot was a replica), the supercomputer assumed a battle form to fight the Z Fighters for the final boss. The people behind DBZ decided to make a short animation OVA of the game's basic plot. Nearly 20 years later, to celebrate the supercomputer battle form, Hatchiyack, being added to a fighting game for the first time (Raging Blast 2), they redid the animation, which is what is used for the special (notice how it's cleaner than the animation seen in the Abridged series). When "Santa" accuses Trunks of screwing with the timeline, it cuts to a small bit of the original animation as the joke. Team Four Star took this and made it all Christmas themed. Dr. Lychee was made into Santa Claus, as was Hatchiyack as "Super Santa", and the Destron gas was 'coal dust and naughtiness'. Also, as others have said, when Goku said "How could I put the universe at risk?", they pop up a false ad for Dragon Ball Z's belated sequel series, Dragon Ball Super, where Goku's actions and his love of fighting strong opponents did just that.
When this came out A lot of people, including me, found weird that Krillin was at Goku's house when seemingly everyone was invited to bulma's specially after how the Broly movie ended, since then TFS has said there was nothing there and the stuff from Broly was just a joke
That reference when Goku said “How could I ever endanger the whole universe?” At 10:00 is because he actually sets up a scenario where the whole universe could be obliterated in an instant in Dragonball Super.
By sets up a scenario you mean give the universes a fighting chance by entertaining Zeno in a tournament, as he was going to destroy everything, then yes

Which Goku was told not to because Zeno will probably wipe out the universes that lose (which they did).

Since the idea of testing them with the wish to save everyone (along with the notion of the best universes being spared) came with the tournament and he was going to just casually erase _everyone_ before being reminded, I think it's safe to assume that he was serious about getting rid of everything. Without Goku and his tournament, we might have seen the DBZ equivalent of the biblical flood, only without the Ark.
Hoo boy the history of this special is complicated so I'll let someone else explain it, but basically from what I remember this was an obscure special based on an old Famicom/NES game that later got remastered for Raging Blast 2 years later (also it had nothing to do with Christmas)

You both totally missed one of the best jokes. At 9:55 Santa says that Goku is a danger to the entire universe. When Goku says how could he be a danger to the iniverse, there's an ad for DBZ Tournament of Power, in which Goku's ceaseless lust for battle causes Grand Zino to create a tournament between universes so Goku could face even more powerful enemies from other unvierses. But if you fail in battle, your entire universe gets wiped from existence.

You can't Blame Goku for someone else's decision, any more than you can blame him for Freeza destroying Planet Vegeta.
It started because a completely unrelated character decided to do it of their own volition, a decision Goku had no say in nor influence on and was very likely not even born when it was made (given the ages of the involved characters).
This was my favorite Christmas special they made and I loved how they payed tribute to the original Japanese voice of Bulma, Hiromi Tsuru, at the end, she passed away shortly before they released this

I like how "Santa" believes that Piccolo is Demon King Piccolo, but everything else is true of Vegeta having too many sins to count and he is pure naughtiness, Trunks disputing the Space Time Continuum just by Time Travelling and Goku endangering everyone he knows and cares for, just for the thrill of fighting. At least Gohan is the only good one of the bunch!

Be it the actual special or abridged version that final combined attack against Hatchiyak/Santa Claus is STILL one of my favorite ones in the whole franchise.
I like uow each actually used their own special moves, and not just the typical Kamehameha. Its subtle, but you can see Gohan use Masenko, Trunks using Burning Attack, Vegeta using either Garlic Gun or Big Bang (i think the prior, and they didnt do the typical colors due to oversight, but im not positive) and Piccolo using his Special beam Cannon. Just wished DBZ had more uses of different techniques more often. Like shatter Kamehameha.
I love the ad they put, because it's the last arc of dragon ball super (the canonical secuel to dragon ball z), where like 9 different universes fight each other at the same time (like a battle royal). All thanks that Goku said he wanted to fight the strongest of other universes to the god of multiverse, after he said that there were too much universes. Each universe have to send their fighters (I think it was 10 fighters tops) and if a universe runs out of fighters, it get eliminated. So, yes, Goku put in danger not his universe, but like 9 different universes at the same time
Goku actually saved these Universes, because Zen-Oh already planned to destroy these 9 universes, that's a plot point that everyone likes to ignore.

Here’s a bit of background info on this special in particular that might be interesting. The special they abridged in this one was originally a video game called “Dragon Ball Z Side Story: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans”, which released for the NES.
Eventually, in the early 90s, it got an anime special, by Toei Animation themselves, that served as a video guide for the video game. This anime special floated around the internet in 2000s, and since the west never got the game it was considered “the lost OVA” (original video animation) by the fandom. Eventually the special was fully remade and reanimated in 2010 as “Dragon Ball Z: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans” and released with the game Raging Blast 2, where Hatchiyack, the big bad, was actually playable. The abridged almost exclusively uses footage from the 2010 special, having just one bit from the original special when they joke about how Trunks messed up the timeline.

When Goku says "how could I endanger the entire universe", a fake ad for Dragon Ball Super pops up. Without giving anything away, Goku does, in fact, put the entire universe at risk in Super.

Definitely my favorite of their Christmas specials, though like with much of their other writing, it gets better after watching and getting their other specials too lol. And some of the rest of the franchise, like with that nod to Dragon Ball Super that it seemed you didn't get haha (which makes sense if you haven't watched it ofc). Also just a lot of great lines and the puns haha.

The reasons why they are on the naughty list are kinda hard to get if you don't know the lore behind them. Vegeta is selfexplonary, as for the rest:
Piccolo: His father, Demon King Piccolo, tried to take over the world in the original Dragonball where Goku was still a child and ultimately beat Piccolo. Demon King Piccolo then spit out an egg which carried the Piccolo we know. He was supposed to carry out his fathers legacy and did so at first, but he changed after Raditz came to earth and he teamed up with Goku and later kidnapped Gohan. Hence why he says "sins of the father much".
Trunks: This is probably the hardest one to get. "The plan to eradicate christmas" is based on an OVA that came out way back in the 90es and was never released outside of Japan. Around 2010 the game Raging Blast came out with a remastered and cut down version of the OVA. This is the one TFS based their parody on. The other Trunks we see is the one of the old OVA, the joke being that there are multiple versions of the same story.
Goku: The ad they show is about the Univere Survival Arc in DB Super. There is a tournament between 12 different universes and the ones who lose get ereased. And it pretty much all started cause Goku was so eager to fight dudes from all over the multiverse.
And Hiromi Tsuru was the japanese voice actress for Bulma from way back all the way to 2017, sadely she passed away due to cancer.

Some others have given explanations, but here's mine.
As said, there was a Nintendo (the original Entertainment System) Japan only game for DBZ called "Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans", the plot being that the last member of the species the Saiyans wiped out for their planet was returning for revenge. Specifically, said last member built a supercomputer, then died, the supercomputer was launched from the planet and ended up on a 'dark planet' at the end of the universe where it eventually learned to control the dark energies of the place and recreated its maker, Dr. Lychee (or Raichi, depending on the translation) and several past Dragon Ball foes, and then turned the planet into a space ship and flew to Earth to fulfill its maker's last wish: wiping out the Saiyan race. The dark gas released, Destron Gas, interfered with the Z Fighter's ki manulation, but when that was overcome and the 'shadow warriors' were destroyed, including Lychee (remember, the original died, what appeared in the game's plot was a replica), the supercomputer assumed a battle form to fight the Z Fighters for the final boss. The people behind DBZ decided to make a short animation OVA of the game's basic plot. Nearly 20 years later, to celebrate the supercomputer battle form, Hatchiyack, being added to a fighting game for the first time (Raging Blast 2), they redid the animation, which is what is used for the special (notice how it's cleaner than the animation seen in the Abridged series). When "Santa" accuses Trunks of screwing with the timeline, it cuts to a small bit of the original animation as the joke.
Team Four Star took this and made it all Christmas themed. Dr. Lychee was made into Santa Claus, as was Hatchiyack as "Super Santa", and the Destron gas was 'coal dust and naughtiness'. Also, as others have said, when Goku said "How could I put the universe at risk?", they pop up a false ad for Dragon Ball Z's belated sequel series, Dragon Ball Super, where Goku's actions and his love of fighting strong opponents did just that.
And thus Prince Vegeta continued the Merry KissMyAss tradition.

That reference when Goku said “How could I ever endanger the whole universe?” At 10:00 is because he actually sets up a scenario where the whole universe could be obliterated in an instant in Dragonball Super.
By sets up a scenario you mean give the universes a fighting chance by entertaining Zeno in a tournament, as he was going to destroy everything, then yes

the dragonball community is one of the most toxic of any franchise so no matter how you chose to go about it there alway going to be a few comments from people who just want to complain. i personally think you should enjoy dragonball the way you want to, its a fun series no matter how you look at it!
If I remember correctly, this has one of the only 2 completely uncensored/uninterrupted F bombs in DBZA, the other is in Episode 60 pt 3

In case if you guys didn't know, the reason the Dragon Ball Super ad pop up because before the Tournament of Power. Goku went to see Zeno and to ask to have that Tournament with the other universes.
Which Goku was told not to because Zeno will probably wipe out the universes that lose (which they did).
I don't really get why people keep claiming Goku was the reason the universes were going to be destroyed, as opposed to the reality of him giving the universes a chance to survive.

Since the idea of testing them with the wish to save everyone (along with the notion of the best universes being spared) came with the tournament and he was going to just casually erase _everyone_ before being reminded, I think it's safe to assume that he was serious about getting rid of everything.
Without Goku and his tournament, we might have seen the DBZ equivalent of the biblical flood, only without the Ark.
Hoo boy the history of this special is complicated so I'll let someone else explain it, but basically from what I remember this was an obscure special based on an old Famicom/NES game that later got remastered for Raging Blast 2 years later (also it had nothing to do with Christmas)
The special was released alongside the Famicom game, and it kinds of served as a guide for it.
But yeah, then it was remastered For Raging Blast 2 because it was a way to introduce the Hatchiyack worldwide, as they added him to the game.

You both totally missed one of the best jokes. At 9:55 Santa says that Goku is a danger to the entire universe. When Goku says how could he be a danger to the iniverse, there's an ad for DBZ Tournament of Power, in which Goku's ceaseless lust for battle causes Grand Zino to create a tournament between universes so Goku could face even more powerful enemies from other unvierses. But if you fail in battle, your entire universe gets wiped from existence.
They couldn't possibly know about that haha... they haven't seen Super or any other Dragonball show. Only Abridged.
