Hiromi Tsuru was the original VA for Bulma from all the way back in the Dragonball days. She passed not long before this came out, thus the dedication to her at the end.
So the original OVA this is based on, Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans, was released exclusively in Japan for a system called the Playdia during the late 80s/early 90s as a choose your own adventure type thing. You can see a snippet of that footage during Trunks’ comment about the space time continuum. Most of the footage in this is from the remastered version that was a bonus feature in Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 for the 360/PS3, which was also the first time the special was officially available in the West. The RB2 version was just a straight OVA- no choose your own path stuff.

This is actually a remake of an older version of this movie. That scene where the animation changed hen Santa was accusing Trunks of disrupting the timeline, that was a scene from the original movie. The original movie is called The Plan To Eradicate The Saiyan, the remake (this version) is called The Plan To Eradicate Every Super Saiyan. Basically, an old enemy of the saiyans, the Tuffles, created a machine that ran off pure hatred to eliminate all saiyans. "Santa" was the main villain, Dr. Lychee (originally named Dr. Raichi), who used the machine, called Hatchiyack, to create manifestations of those who held grudges against the saiyans (Frieza and the others). After he was defeated, the machine created a body for itself, which was the final villain.
Its weird to me how people refer to this look as "cleaned up" when in reality its just digitally drawn. I've personally never been crazy about the glossy look a lot of early digitally drawn anime, and the quality of animation (as in number of unique frames drawn) is not exactly improved by it. Also, yes. This was made to be paired with the video game Raging Blast 2. Its not a cutscene, rather they just included this whole movie in the Extras.

"Dragon Ball Z Side Story: True Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans" for the Playdia which was released in 2 parts, the "Earth Saga" which is the parts dealing with the smoke machines and the clones of turles, slug, cooler, and frieza, and then the "Space Saga" which was them going after Lychee and Hatchiyak. This game was a live motion video choose your own adventure sort of game. The NES version came out first. Then there were 2 videos released (The Earth Saga and the Space Saga) that were intended to be a sort of visual guide. The footage in the movie where Lychee calls out Trunks for messing with the timeline and the footage gets lower quality is a clip from those videos. Then they took the footage from those 2 videos and a few extra scenes and used them to create the Playdia version of the game. None of this footage, either in the video format or in the playdia format, was ever released outside of Japan. Much later on, the story was redone with an edited script, completely original footage/animation (in the same style as Episode of Bardock), and was released as a bonus included with "Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2" and it was retitled to "Dragon Ball: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans". This was the first official release of the story outside of Japan. Also that Goku merely _reminded_ Zeno about the tournament, it wasn't his idea. People say it was Goku's idea, but Zeno came up with the idea to have a tournament when watching the one Beerus and Champa threw for themselves. Meaning that if the Tournament _was_ a bad thing, then U7's ever-incompetent God of Destruction would be the one to blame, not Goku.
I’m pretty sure Vegeta is the only character to get the f word uncensored at different parts in the series: once during the freeza saga when he realizes the dragon ball is gone, once after he has sex with bulma, and here after yippie-Kay-ye. Almost makes me wish they left it uncensored

This isnt the original eradicate all saiyans movie, this is from a game. The original movie was lost I think and there was only a really bad copy on going everywhere on the internet. They used the movie to make a new game with the new character and this movie was an unlockable I think.

When I first found out this movie, it came out on Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 as I played Hatchiyack. The movie is Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.

this movie came with the game called dragon ball z ranging blast 2. it was bouns disk. if you wanna put it in the timeline. this was also during the 9 days before the fight with cell. also the orginal name was dbz side story plan to eradicate the saiyans.

it was one of the latest dragonball z movies, called "plan to eradicate the saiyans"
This is the only English dub of this movie if I remember correctly. TFS being awesome as per usual.
As a little note to Gohans present...i think the reason hes so happy is French is the original version of Mony Dick? I may be wrong. But if it is, then it has all the original context to the story. Some of which was probally lost in translation to other languages.
Kinda like how dub studios will change lines because they think we are too ignorant to understand the japanese context.(they really need to stop doing that.)
