BlakeDeluxe Seriously, that would be a great premise for a screenplay. Like a reimagined version of Michael Douglas The Game with a conspiracy theorist MMA expert as the main character. Maybe with a Darren Brown type character too
Always admired how genuine Derren is. What's stood out about his shows over traditional magic is his willingness to be blatant about the fact that this is a trick, it's not magic or of higher power and yet it's still amazing.
Have seen Derren Brown live and admired him for a long time but I still found this surprisingly insightful and crazy interesting. One of my favourites ever.
Al Santos check out his earlier work. I used to watch him as a teen with my friend and I thought he was mesmerizing back then, now he’s just reaffirming it for me. The man is something else.
Apocalypse was my favourite! Not just for the incredible backstory but the "victims" experience was incredibly emotional to watch. I cried at several points, it was remarkable
I've been obsessed watching all of Derren Brown videos, but I haven't see the great art robbery. UA-cam constantly shows it in my feed, but I keep on scrolling past it...then I see this comment...now I have to watch it
Meh. His stage shows are far superior. I'm not into his tv specials, like apocalypse or heist, they're a bit gimmicky. Still watch them, just didn't get the excitement I do from the stage shows... Speaking of, Svengali was my favourite.
I ran into Derren Brown on UA-cam years ago. He’s a fantastic entertainer. If people watching this have not seen his shows do yourself a favor and binge them. They are incredible.
i feel like im one of the few in america who know who derren is.... i've been following his work for well over a decade. i never really had an idol before i discovered his work, hes the only person on earth id ever call my idol.
@Alpha Centauri congrats on being an asshole, my comment about knowing his work has nothing to do with you and more to do with the fact im happy to see him get exposure in america, not like it was some accomplishment for me to know things outside of your knowledge. so until next time, fuck off.
Enjoyed it. I don't think Rogan fully know / appreciate who he was talking to, to the extend I hoped him to. Sure this is not the first mentalist he had on the cast but Darren is a whole different creature.
The way Derren talks about people impacting our lives, particularly celebrities we’ve never met, is very resonante because Derren is that person to me. The book is incredible and I’ve always been a fan of his shows, they carry such weight with me
I would love to see Chris Morris on the show, he created some of the best (my favourite for sure) British comedies of all time, i imagine he would have some amazing stories.
I'm a huge Derren fan. This is by far the most interesting interview i've ever seen him do; I got more insight into Derren's personality from just this interview, than the 18 years I've been watching him
It's weird seeing someone who doesn't necessarily know Derren's history talk to him about what he does. As someone from the UK, let me tell you; Derren's done some craaaazy cool shit.
Once I'd gotten into a drunken street brawl, trying to break up everyone from fighting. One person knocked my glasses off when he jumped on my back and put me in a choke. I calmly grabbed his wrists, pulled his arms off, turned around and asked him if he could help find my glasses, to which he was confused, then started backing away while yelling that I should get away from him. Hearing Derren tell his story about deflating a situation with a drunk person, my situation back then, now makes a lot more sense to me.
I could listen to Derren talk all day. So insightful. Read his book, Tricks of the Mind. Some of the anecdotes he gives, exist there, in more detail. One of my favourite books.
Yes! You've jogged some memories in me well done, the remembering 20 cards by using various mmenmonics (sp) and things. Useful stuff, and I love thew way he never ever pretends there is more to what he does than dedication and time.
Hi Joe, I don't know if you'll read this but thank you for consistently bringing on a wide variety of guests from all types of backgrounds. Everyone has their own lessons to teach and, personally, I found this to be one of your most important episodes yet. Craig.
Joe has had some mehh podcasts in the past where he is a bit cold/confrontational, or just doesn't let the other person finish all their stories and stuff, but lately he has really been on point (and pretty hilarious too actually). GO JOE
Been a fan of Derren Brown since I was 12 and I have watched all of his work - fantastic man! Was a nice surprise seeing he was today's guest. I am going to enjoy this podcast immensely!
Joe please have him on again after watching a few of his specials, and at least one of his stage shows like enigma or svengali. Trust me, you will have enough to talk about for hours.
Joe rogan had a great chat with Derren Brown but I couldn’t help thinking he knew nothing about him. I know he can’t research all his guests but he would have got so much more out of this if he knew the depths Derren Brown has debunked pseudoscience.
@@williamfenton8246 While I do agree with him, you have to admit the massive plug in of his shows. But I don't think Rogan would do it on purpose, cause at some point Derren asks "Can I talk about Sacrifice?" and Joe goes "You can talk about anything you want". My conspiracy theory is that Derren was trying to make us suggestible to watch his shows, by constantly adding them in the middle of his stories. Which he kind of explained the process of before. Which I think is brilliant if it's true, and not just a shameless constant plug.
It's because he wants the guest to feel comfortable in explaining what naturally comes first instead of it all being scripted. ..plus Joe does sometimes 3 podcast a day so that would definitely get hard to remember everyone's story plus it would have a scripted feeling instead of free flowing
@isitwrongtoeat sand. I think you gotta cut some slack for the fact that Derren isn't very big in the USA. Some of Joe's questions indicated that he'd watched a couple of Derren's specials. He'd made some effort.
Why. Anything he has to say he can say there. We didn't do the research either. Let's talk, let's have a fun conversation that we don't know where it'll go. He's not the Queen, he doesn't need a red carpet and a formal interview. That style of interview went away and for good reason: it fucked sucked and was soul sucking.
This guy is a national treasure here in the UK. Hugely talented and now often impersonated. Great choice of guest (the diversity of the guests keeps bringing me back to this channel).
What an absolutely fascinating and worthwhile discussion. Darren is so clearly and articulately brilliant in his observastions and understandings.. How strange though that he clearly avoided really speaking upon spirituality, and when he declared himself an atheist and touches upon the subject he seems to become at a loss for words and confused.
So surprised to see Derren on, i just got his new book in the mail. I feel there were so many other things they could have talked about and gone deeper into the mind of Derren, such an intelligent person and someone as competent as Joe asking the questions - i feel Joe should have watched his shows and did some more homework before he came on. Damn. Bring him back please!!!
His book 'Happy' is an amazing read. The title and cover playfully hide it's complex, sometimes painfully honest, content about life. Lots of philosophy gems in there.
@@atrociousanimal You've probably made a sale for him because I didn't know about that book. I've read a couple of his other books and he's a good writer.
+Cartman420. I love the guy too but you've gotta be fair, he's barely even known in the USA. Hopefully, there are some other good interviews with him floating around.
My favourite interviewer, laying down the questions for the person who has provided me with my favourite live experience ever... I wish I knew when Derren could hypnotise me!
The thing Derren describes at 16:00 I actually did, I didn't know what I was doing but I was walking past a bus shelter at 2am and there was a gang of guys with a German Shepherd and one of them said "what you looking at" or something like that and another said "gimmie your wallet" I replied with "your dogs ears are too small" and looked at him for 2 seconds and then I walked away singing tom waits Green Grass. Maybe they just thought I was a nutter but it worked and they didn't do anything.
That's not it working, that's them not wanting to punch you in the face as soon as you failed to comply. Try to do that to a squad of police in a stand off, see how that parlor trick works out for you. Derren Brown is a simple showman and snake oil salesman who dresses it up in sciency talk to sell it to a modern audience, and if you disagree PROVE ME WRONG but you won't be able to
Tyson Fury "I was depressed, I found God, a higher power and purpose, I'm ok now" Joe Rogan "mmmm....interesting, so goal setting is how you overcame depression."
How can one compare this interview with the librarian Tyson(smart Ars). I love this dude. What a specimen of humanity. A true wild orchid in this rotten swump.
I done a double take upon reading who the guest was, had no idea Joe was having Derren on. Been watching his stuff for years, very good guest to have on :)

BlakeDeluxe Or maybe Eddie would go DEEP with it and end up not believing it was a set-up at the end. Then possibly commit an actual murder
northstreet13 Exactly man imagine the mindfuck as they’re handcuffing him and puttting him in the back of the squad car.
Joe, please watch some Derren Brown material, and get this geezer back on the podcast next year.
I've *always* been fascinated by Derren. Absolute legend.
Yall crazy? just watch apocalypse
"You can spend your life climbing a ladder and then realise you had it up against the wrong wall" amazing!
*Ladder Haha (: ))
I'm pretty sure it's a Stephen Covey quote. Seven habits of highly effective people
That's a good one!
@@davidknell9676 It's a quote from Joseph Campbell. He used to say that all the time in his talks.
@@gregorious123 thanks
Have seen Derren Brown live and admired him for a long time but I still found this surprisingly insightful and crazy interesting. One of my favourites ever.
FINALLY DARREN BROWN on the JRE! I love this guy!
Derren is cool too
Well, not Darren. He's still stuck to the couch Derren left him on.
He's certainly unique, haven't seen him without hair before. It's weird.
I have no idea about this guy but he seems interesting. I will checkout his Netflix.
Al Santos check out his earlier work. I used to watch him as a teen with my friend and I thought he was mesmerizing back then, now he’s just reaffirming it for me. The man is something else.
I swear the head nod that Derren does is hypnotic. Somehow end up being so drawn into his words.
Derren has been a hero of mine for the last 8 years. Thanks for having him on Joe!
nope.
My favorite Derren's special was The Great art robbery, if you didnt watch it, you should ;)
Apocalypse was my favourite! Not just for the incredible backstory but the "victims" experience was incredibly emotional to watch. I cried at several points, it was remarkable
I've been obsessed watching all of Derren Brown videos, but I haven't see the great art robbery. UA-cam constantly shows it in my feed, but I keep on scrolling past it...then I see this comment...now I have to watch it
I really like the one with the lucky dog. Very uplifting
The one with the lucky dog made me cry, when he threw that dice at the third try...
Great guest! Would like to see Derren come back
quit your yappin!
i feel like im one of the few in america who know who derren is.... i've been following his work for well over a decade. i never really had an idol before i discovered his work, hes the only person on earth id ever call my idol.
Wow your really cool
@Alpha Centauri congrats on being an asshole, my comment about knowing his work has nothing to do with you and more to do with the fact im happy to see him get exposure in america, not like it was some accomplishment for me to know things outside of your knowledge. so until next time, fuck off.
If you haven't read Happy yet, you should. Life changer.
Enjoyed it. I don't think Rogan fully know / appreciate who he was talking to, to the extend I hoped him to. Sure this is not the first mentalist he had on the cast but Darren is a whole different creature.
This is might be my favourite one so far.
Have you seen the first Freeway Rick Ross episode?
a brilliant conversation. Derren is fantastic. I'm a Brit, I effectively grew up on his stuff.
Derren is one of the most incredible people I've ever discovered on our flat Earth
FYI : The earth is a triangle.
Earth is a Four Dimensional Time Cube if you've been around on the Internet long enough.
Derren needs to come back again after Joe sees his specials............
Miguel Barajas yes absolutely!!!!
Agreed!
100% true! have you seen the "confessing to a murder" one?
The way Derren talks about people impacting our lives, particularly celebrities we’ve never met, is very resonante because Derren is that person to me. The book is incredible and I’ve always been a fan of his shows, they carry such weight with me
I love Darren Brown, can't believe you have him on the show.
'Derren Brown is an English mentalist' reminds me of Alan Partridge.
Eck The Mentalist tv show was actually based on him.
@Montgomery15 Snooker Videos he’s much funnier than Americans!
Ha ha Tony Le Mesmer
"No way, you big spastic. You're a mentalist!" That episode was based on something that happened to Stewart Lee.
Derren Brown is a modern day philosopher.
Never start a fight in the street with a well--dressed gentleman when there's a magic convention in town.
Or ever..
This podcast would have been better had Joe watched even one of Derren's Netflix specials.
why?
Wadebowen Fan you mean all his channel 4 shows which he has loads of where as he has less than 5 Netflix “specials”
Yeah you'd think. I mean just to get a little perspective on the guy.
Agree Wadebowen Fan, Joe does seem to know nothing about Derren and his special skills
@Gnome Trumpsky That was one of the most interesting episodes ive seen.
His thinking resonates so much with me, who else feels like that?
The wall outside my house isn’t 4 foot high.
What are you even talking about
Put back the candy and leave the store, sir
@@drmedwuast only watched The Heist with my dad 2 days ago. That scene was hilarious.
@drmedwuast ermm you're the ignorent one unless your joking
I would love to see Chris Morris on the show, he created some of the best (my favourite for sure) British comedies of all time, i imagine he would have some amazing stories.
DERREN BROWN IS A REALLY A VERY INTERESTING PERSON! HE IS AMAZING! He does good things to people, i love it!
I'm a huge Derren fan. This is by far the most interesting interview i've ever seen him do; I got more insight into Derren's personality from just this interview, than the 18 years I've been watching him
Look in to my eyes, look like to my eyes not around the eyes, in the eyes, you're under.

You will not get the lobster you will have a salad and a glass of tap water. 3, 2, 1... you're back in the room.
@@gitsurfer27 Computer says "No, it was shown in other countries too. "
Hearing Derren tell his story about deflating a situation with a drunk person, my situation back then, now makes a lot more sense to me.
ive experienced a similar situation where I said something someone didnt expect. They cursed at me and then walked away.
Must have been a white belt. Bad choke technique
@@JoeNoSay - I used the 80 lbs weight advantage technique on him. Sometimes you've just got to fight dirty.
he was probably freaked out that you pulled his arms off
I could listen to Derren talk all day. So insightful. Read his book, Tricks of the Mind. Some of the anecdotes he gives, exist there, in more detail. One of my favourite books.
Does the book also go like "I remember this experiment I did on my new show on Netflix..."?
Dani B. Goode Haha! No, I believe the book was before Netflix’ existence.
It is a great book.
GO JOE
So weird that you had Derren on, i literally just finished a 2 day binge on his older stuff. Class.
is it weird? or is that just the story you are telling yourself :)
@@makingaclubchampion Touche....... Toucheeeeee.
Derren’s live shows are amazing. Glad you had him on. Love how his mind works.
Joe, you need to watch some of the Derren Brown specials. As a therapist for 25 years, they are fascinating,
Joe rogan had a great chat with Derren Brown but I couldn’t help thinking he knew nothing about him. I know he can’t research all his guests but he would have got so much more out of this if he knew the depths Derren Brown has debunked pseudoscience.
Derren is a follower of the Amazing Randy...and freely admits so, so yes, it is a pity.
This was probably a paid interview to promote Derren's Netflix shows
He is a master as persuasion. He has simply persuaded. Not debunked. If he believes something, he can make anyone else have the same belief
@@orbluecuisine2116 you don't watch a lot of Rogan do you
@@williamfenton8246 While I do agree with him, you have to admit the massive plug in of his shows.
This could have been such a great interview if Joe had only done some homework on who his guest was. What a wasted opportunity
I haven't even watched this yet and I'm realising how excited I am for this - not just in magic, in general, I think Derren is a genius!
this guy is smart and great thank u for the podcast Joe.
Yeah this one was nice
The greatest trick Derren ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist.

I'm a Joe fan, I'm a Derren fan, I just wish Joe would put some effort in before he does these, a little research would make them more interesting.
Fair point well made, Darran. I'm just a fanboy I guess.
@@isitwrongtoeatsand8828 Nah, I get what you mean though.
Damn, so much philosophy (and so well spoken) with Derren Brown, so glad Rogan had him on.
-youre really good. have you done this your whole life?
-not yet.
Joe had to put the hat on so he can avoid those "Joe is interviewing himself" comments.

This guy is a national treasure here in the UK. Hugely talented and now often impersonated. Great choice of guest (the diversity of the guests keeps bringing me back to this channel).
A living legend...one of my heroes!
Derren vetting Joe Rogan for his next project waaaaay in advance :D
Yup... Trigger joe right before a huge UFC event to say things throughout the night to condition millions of UFC fans to watch Derrens next special.
That would be awesome

Wow seems totally possible
What an absolutely fascinating and worthwhile discussion. Darren is so clearly and articulately brilliant in his observastions and understandings.. How strange though that he clearly avoided really speaking upon spirituality, and when he declared himself an atheist and touches upon the subject he seems to become at a loss for words and confused.
Sacrifice is amazing. I about fell off my couch when Phil began tapping his head inside the truck 🤯
One of the most powerful podcasts I've watched.
I just feel hypnotised by Derren he’s amazing! I just get so engrossed I forget everything that’s going on around me. It’s wonderful.
I've just started reading Darren Brown's book, Happy. A very accessible read.
Leigh Fiorentino I love the first chapter!
