    Videos like this seriously have me wondering what swimming would look like without such strict rules.

      I hadn’t thought about it until making this video, but it could definitely look very different

      Alllllot of underwaters in every 100 or 50 event
      Idk what distance would be like. Probably the same as right now.

      I hate rules about form in sports like swimming. If not for these rules, imagine how we could invent faster forms of swimming! Freestyle swimming should be "free-style" in such a manner than whatever form is allowed.

    • @lukemcgranahan
      @lukemcgranahan 6 місяців тому +5

      @@kkuhnIn all events involving freestyle I can think of (notably barring any sort of medley) you are allowed to swim however you please (I believe with the exception of underwaters beyond 15 meters/yards). Today's version of freestyle just happens to be the fastest form of swimming currently known. Just go look at Ryan Lochte's freestyle underwaters for an example of this.

      Freestyle should be the only event.

    Up until the 1900 Olympics, the over arm side stroke was a competition event. Prior to the 1900 Olympics, it was dropped in favor of the much slower breast stroke because breast stroke was more 'gentlemanly' because there was less splashing..... The only record for the OAS was 1:02.5 for 100 yards, set in 1895, almost 130 years ago.....

    If you look closely at the video of 100br in 2012, almost all the swimmer cheated by doing multiple dolphin kicks EXCEPT BRENDON HANSEN. Respect to Hansen

    If a sport has too many difficult-to-enforce rules… and then people cheat… it’s the fault of the sport, not of the athletes.

      Absolutely. The whole point of breaststroke is to swim in an intentionally inefficient way, which is just asking for people to push the rules as far as possible. It's like racewalking, which has exactly the same problems - it's all about how much you can get away with breaking the rules (although, in that case, they actually restrict the referees to make sure competitors can get away with a lot, since they wouldn't have a sport if they enforced the rules properly).

    I saw a video where someone won a race by a lot and celebrated and went into their teammates lane. They got disqualified for breaking the clear rule about staying in your land until he race is finished.
    Agree or disagree that he works have got the DQ?

      Not a dumb rule but implemented stupidly, he didn't interfere with anyone's race, it was total bs

    • @TheBoxingEngineer
      @TheBoxingEngineer 6 місяців тому +1

      Well everyone knows that you can't cross lanes while the race is ongoing so technically the disqualification was legit. I the rule as a whole is good or bad is another question. If he would not be disqualified there would also be people complaining so it's a lose lose situation for the refs

    It’s ironic that Australian and American swimmers accuse Chinese swimmers of cheating. It’s known that those who commit a crime tend to others of accusing the crime they themselves commit out of internal guilt.

    A great educational and informative video!
    Breaststroke is the slowest stroke among the 4. I always wonder whether it’s really that slow? Will it be fast enough to chase the rest of three if it’s allowed to have the dolphin kicks as many as you want within the range of 15m?

    Get rid of the dolphin kick! Kitajima was the reason they added it. Instead of stripping him of his medals FINA said "Well, let's just legalize one dolphin kick" but it only led to more pushing limits of what you can get away with. Cameras will (hopefully) stop this but the damage is done.. SCY breaststroke has turned into a pullout competition with very little breaststroke swum.

    I hate sports federations, they arbitrarily ban what they want.
    This is third sport ive heard that does the same thing: A competitor comes up with a superior technique and everyone starts to use it. People don't know how to use it safely but still insist on doing it and then federation bans it. Banning that technique because the tarded kid of the school couldnt do it seems very unfair for the rest.

    Let’s give them a break. Their stroke is funny looking and slow. They need to sneak a few real swim maneuvers in to eventually get to the end of the race. Actually now that I am thinking about it, I’m remembering how these guys keep Just casually demolishing me during the third leg of the individual medley. . I change my mind, let’s DQ them all. lol.
