Super disappointing. Remakes are older beloved games reimagined from the ground up yet still don’t get enough respect. Too many people still see the word “REMAKE” and classify it as some HD remaster.
Geoff Keighley and Konami still beefing after the Kojima fallout lol No but in all seriousness, Silent Hill 2 Remake not only was a great game, but it's a great blueprint on how future remakes should be made and should 100% be celebrated on a massive scale.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is the BEST game expansion I've played since Dying Light the Following. I'm a Souls fanboy. That being said, The Game Awards must be on drugs to put this one on GOTY list instead of an actual game like Silent Hill 2 Remake. SH2 isn't just a remake, it's a complete new game made from the ground-up. it's not even a 1-to-1 type of remake.
I found the nominations lackluster to be honest ): I was really gutted that the Silent Hill 2 remake wasn't nominated. Yes I know there's the controversy because it's a remake but I think that shouldn't void it. Especially given the fact that Resident Evil 4 remake was nominated last year (which was my game of the year lol) The Silent Hill 2 remake still brings something new to the table. Also given the fact that so many doubted that Bloober team would pull it off. I was one of the skeptics as well but I'm very glad it was a success and Bloober team deserves recognition. And I'm definitely voting for Luke Roberts for performance of the year. He blew me away as James Sunderland
You know what game I’m shocked that Stellar Blade didn’t get a nod for Game of the Year, I mean it’s a new game, new story, new characters, not a remake, all original, and music that is all beautiful
Completey agree it's really disgraceful tbh I made a post about it online myself a complete snub to Sh2 remake, Stellar Blade among other titles overlooked by a Dlc for a game released 2 years ago! This is why fans should be involved more instead of these crappy media outlets! And especially voting fans only recieve 10% of the votes in Goty awards which means the media that makes the decisions on nominees recieve 90% of the final vote so I wouldn't be suprised if Elden ring also won Goty! Im right there with you on them making a seperate category for Dlc & I also think Jeff needs to take all this criticism & feedback on board to not have another blunder like this on future shows! Also Bloober Team deserved so much better they created the best horror remake of all time & totally stomped all over all doubts anyone had about the game prior I hope they know that their work hasn't gone unnoticed by the fans
A frigging DLC nominated for many awards, including GOTY?! Yeah, I especially have issues with that. Hopefully, rebirth, Astro Bot, and even sh2 can win some awards.
I’m a huge JRPG guy, and it is honestly such a crime that Persona 3 Reload was not nominated for a single award Edit: I also wanted to say that I really like this style of video for you. You do this style of commentary so well in regards to survival horror, so I’d love to see more of it with the larger gaming industry :)
I think that gaming overall isn't the same since 2005-2013. Of course the graphics & certain game play are better. But there isn't games like OG RE4 making a splash in the industry or like Halo 3. Also getting rid of midnight releases takes away a lot from the social aspect. I remember when Red Dead came out & there was people gathering around eating baked cowboy beans at the midnight release.
No Silent Hill 2 sucks and is a crazy snub but honestly the GOTY nominees make a lot of sense. Especially as someone who played all of them. All of the selections made waves and are great. Metaphor is my personal pick.
Shadow of the Erdtree has no business being in the goty category. It's not a new game. It's an add-on to an older game and at best should be nominated for best ongoing game, since they don't have a best dlc category like they should. Goty should always be reserved for standalone games, excluding remasters
Super disappointing it is this year. But I quess I understand it, but still give us something I/we like to vote for. There where a few I liked, but still, I expected more for the nominees. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Not gonna lie, but i really don't care about awards like Game Awards, Oscar and Emmy. I know what they can represent, but i think some people take them to a very personal side. But this is really a joke. A DLC (a separate part of the game that needs the full game to start) being nominated really hits hard. Its like if Oscar took all the extra scenes from LotR directors cut, and it nominated for movie of the year (i mean, it is good content, but its not a full movie).
Would’t final fantasy 7 rebirth also be considered a remake? So where is Silent hill 2 remake then. This just goes to show the big gaming sites are completely irrelevant. The only thing that’s relevant is the gamers choice
I’ve played all of these a good bit. Shadow of the Erdtree is amazing but it shouldn’t be on here. I think Balatro should win. Its one of the best games I’ve ever played. Once you start playing you’ll never stop.
As a massive fan of fromsoft Eldon ring dlc is peek but I also agree the dlc should not be nominated yes it is some of the best content ever made even arguably better then some of the games up there but it had its time I don't think it should be an option of we can have on going game category why can't we have a dlc category
I wanted to see life is strange double exposure on this but I assume it wasn't included because of how close it came out to the release think what u want but I personally loved that game this year
It's a true shame Silent Hill 2 got snubbed in favor of an expansion DLC. I don't think i'll be watching the Game Awards this year tbh. The show has been getting worse the last years tbh imo :)
Very disappointed A. DLCs don’t count sote was one of my favorite experiences this year to but it doesn’t count elden ring got the spotlight last year B. Balatro ? Was that game not just a fad C. I might be biased but echoes of wisdom was wayyyy better than astro bot My favorite game of the year FF7 rebirth still got nominated and I think wukong deserved to but other than that hard disagree My nominees would be FF7 Rebirth, Wukong, Zelda, Tekken, Helldivers, Silent hill (also I haven’t played metaphor but that game probably deserves it too)
With all this whining I kind of hope Elden Ring does win. I mean, I don’t vote for it but geez, get over it. SOTE was all new content and was nearly big enough to be an Elden Ring 2. I’m not surprised at all it was nominated. But ultimately I had to vote for Wukong.
Just bring in an horror category. Horror games are more an nieche than action etc. games . So no horror game will get the recognition it deserves. Dlc nomination isnt an new thing . Destiny 2 was nominated multiple times for different game awards. And for me shadow of the Earth tree would be very deserved because it changes up the whole gameplay. Still sad sotet got the deserved credit and phantom liberty none. But u are right with silent hill 2 . But best sound it has a high chance to win against hellblade 2.
Erdtree should not be eligible. FF7 Rebirth should not win either, because that game is BOOOOOOOORING AF. It’s a worse checklist simulator than Ubisoft. They dropped the ball completely.

No but in all seriousness, Silent Hill 2 Remake not only was a great game, but it's a great blueprint on how future remakes should be made and should 100% be celebrated on a massive scale.
To have a mobile game nominated over a masterclass of a remake, yeah what a joke.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is the BEST game expansion I've played since Dying Light the Following. I'm a Souls fanboy.

Agree. There should be a DLC section.
I found the nominations lackluster to be honest ): I was really gutted that the Silent Hill 2 remake wasn't nominated. Plus RE2 remake was nominated GOTY in 2019.
@@shadowlinkbds True true
I dont pay attention to the game awards. But i wish Persona 3 Reload got nominated, I loved that game.
You know what game I’m shocked that Stellar Blade didn’t get a nod for Game of the Year, I mean it’s a new game, new story, new characters, not a remake, all original, and music that is all beautiful
Another thing resident evil remakes got GOTY nominations in the previous ones, so why didn't SH2 remake?
Even ff7 remake got goty nomination
Completey agree it's really disgraceful tbh I made a post about it online myself a complete snub to Sh2 remake, Stellar Blade among other titles overlooked by a Dlc for a game released 2 years ago!

im fine with the goty lineup except the dlc. you cant even play that without buying the maingame!
One, Why is SH2R not on the Goty nominees and also most of the games dont deserve the nomination but thats my opinion
It low-key broke my heart SH2 remake wasn't nominated. It's definitely my game of the year ):
I’m a huge JRPG guy, and it is honestly such a crime that Persona 3 Reload was not nominated for a single award

Have you ever played Dying Light it is a masterpiece of a video game
I agree the dlc for Elder Rings should not be on the game of the year list becouse it is a dlc like you said
I think I already could smell GOTY 2024 winner miles away from this list and I doubt it's gonna be Astro Bot, FF7 Rebirth or Black Myth Wukong.
No Silent Hill 2 sucks and is a crazy snub but honestly the GOTY nominees make a lot of sense. Especially as someone who played all of them. All of the selections made waves and are great. Metaphor is my personal pick.

It’s 2001 is it how do I know it’s either? It’s on the it’s on the achievement truck trophies
I’ve played all of these a good bit. Shadow of the Erdtree is amazing but it shouldn’t be on here. I think Balatro should win. Its one of the best games I’ve ever played. Once you start playing you’ll never stop.
I agree about silent hill 2 remake

I agree expansions shouldn't be on the list because of what it is. It's not a full game so why is it on the list!
Helldivers 2 should be here
I wanted to see life is strange double exposure on this but I assume it wasn't included because of how close it came out to the release think what u want but I personally loved that game this year

elden ring dlc is good but its fckin stupid they nominated that on goty. you cant even play that without buying the basegame!!
Very disappointed

No Concord man this game of the year suck’s
Nah, Geoff Keighley isn’t allowed to pass the buck. It’s his show. The nominations reflect his choice in how to choose them.
Erdtree should not be eligible. FF7 Rebirth should not win either, because that game is BOOOOOOOORING AF. It’s a worse checklist simulator than Ubisoft. They dropped the ball completely.
