Thank you everyone for the massive response to my Thumper video last week! I appreciate it very much. In this video I make use of the remaining little block of Bocote wood (boe coe tay... thanks for the phonetic help, lol)

Great save to cut that chunk off the longer blank. It’s good to see someone else turn pens with a skew. Great job turning these.
Just enough for the blanks, and was able to keep the thumper at a good length too. Oh yes, love the skew, especially when sharpened properly, lol... the second run was so much better! Thanks, Doug!

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful! Bocote is an amazing wood. It makes fantastic grips for your handgun of choice.

Hi Rod. You've just reminded me that I have a few pen kits in stock and several wooden pen blanks. I'd forgotten the joy of making pens as they make such appreciative gifts for friends so I must get down to it soon. Hi Rod, Great video. Didn't know you turned pens. Did notice a slight flex in your mandrel but didn't appear to affect the end result. I also liked your trick with the dots on the paper.
Thank you! Oh, yes, love turning pens. Yep, slight bend on the mandrel, I'll replace it eventually... Funny, I hadn't thought to mention my little epoxy measuring trick, but it's handy 😊

Hi Rod, You know I love a good pen and I absolutely LOVE those four.
I used some of the Bocote in my video from the wood you kindly sent me and it was a dream to turn.
Is your Mandrel slightly bowed as I saw some movement in it on the Headstock end by the blank?

Looks easy, but I’ve found them harder than I expected. Very pretty wood. Wondering if you have a preference between CA or epoxy? Depends on the wood I suppose.

I actually prefer CA glue, medium or thick for pen barrels, but I'm out! Not sure how I let that happen, lol... But 5 minute epoxy does the job just fine too. I tend to give it a couple hours past that "5 minute" mark though. Thank you!

I dislike bocote. Looks good when you turn it then it turns a nearly uniform dark grey. usually in only a few days. Zebrawood retains its stripes.
I haven't had that experience with bocote, it has maintained a striking contrast from what I've seen. I wonder why yours turned grey... Sun exposure? Over how much time? I'd love to hear more about that.
