I probably spent 60 hours watching this video learning how to play Classical Gas. That was in 2008 in college. Now I'm building rockets for SpaceX and still know how to play this song because of this guy. Hope he's doing well...
Yeah, and I think it is a shame that his more recent stuff is arguably catered for younger audiences. Plus here he is communicating to his audience obviously nervous, more true to himself, more polite and refined, and also as if his audience members are his peers.
MatthewNJDavis Agreed. I wonder if this Toby matured into today's Toby? Or does this Toby still exist? I mean I love both Tobys, but I'm just wondering...

I really miss it man. It’s hard to believe I’m older than him in this video. This was the beginning of UA-cam and it’s been so long I barely remember what the world was like before.
In case you read this Toby, this was the video that inspired me to start playing guitar, soon after I got my first guitar and was following revedmusic's youtube tutorial on this. Then I learnt your theme song :P
first video i seen of toby when he was still noname i was trying to learn that song (never actualy learned it). im glad he is so famous he is natural born entertainer
Me too, however it took me 2 weeks from first picking up a guitar, and that was only a few weeks ago. I've now got a proper guitar and I'm learning Tommy Emmanuel songs, and I'm failing at composing anything worthwhile. In fact made a video of me playing the song on my old guitar, but it isn't great. Now, however the song is ridiculously easy for me. So much so, that I made a video just after getting my new guitar a week or two after making the first video, but I never uploaded it.
Still checking this out from time to time. For future people checking this comment out: it is Monday 16/08/2021, last weekend the Taliban took Kabul as the USA withdrew all its troops from Afghanistan.
Now that I look back on how awesome he was, I feel so lucky to be one of his first 10k subscribers. He's taken many of his videos down, but it's still great to be one of the only remaining originals. I FEELS LIKE A DINOSAUR!!!
Just stumbled on this ... very enjoyable ... love the intro ... kind of a Rob Lowe actor approach ... and you pulled it off man ... mucho tricky little tune. Bravo
Lisa: Come gather round, children, It's high time ye learned 'Bout a hero named Homer And a devil named Burns. We'll march 'till we drop The girls and the fellas. wow. I remember watching this video back in high school in 2006 while learning it for guitar class. Here I am in 2024 watching it and instantly getting hit with nostalgia. hahaha
This was the video that I first discovered Toby on while trying to learn Classical Gas years ago and this is the version that I try to emulate while playing it. Little did I know that this guy would become my all time favorite UA-camr before I even knew what a UA-camr was :) Thanks, Toby
I miss Toby so much man. He’s the first YTer I watched and I grew up with him. Now his career is ruined because of social media, and I personally don’t believe the allegations against him. Love you man.
Dude! :O I can't believe I never saw this video until today! Toby...I want to play guitar with you one day, just for the heck of it...that would be awesome...
First video of Toby I ever saw. Didn't even know who he was. I was just searching for classical gas covers / tutorials. Wasn't even until like a year later watching kids react videos that I discovered who he was.
i was 4 years old when this masterpiece of a video came out. my goodness, man... i remember watching all of your older videos, even when i was younger. time flies way too fast. i love ya so much, Toby... like many other people, you were one of the first youtubers i ever discovered. yamimash too. will continue to love and support you no matter what. from, your biggest fan.

Before social media and drama ruined lives
Your right

That's badass
Holy shit bro. I hope this is real

This video has Been around longer than his relationships.

Isn't that how every you tubers fan base is though?
Nickk9656 l
Yeah
Man the nostalgia of this, reminds me of the good ole times of youtube
lol I couldn't stop laughing after watching the sip of whiskey. That's not something you would see Toby do today.

***** Yeah you're right. He put some innuendo in this video lol:
/watch?v=P357AnHT2ss
BlackMageVivi456 His (very young) niece started watching his show, and he cleaned up his act. That's why he's so kid-friendly these days.
Sain240 *sigh* why is it that so many good UA-camrs become PG for their family members that are too young to be on UA-cam anyways?
This is still unironically the best version of this song that I've ever found. Much love Toby u the man
Look up tommy Emmanuel classical gas
@@cianryan46 seen it. Prefer this. Don't know why. Just do
@@cianryan46 I’ve found that video before and he’s amazing but I still stand by what I said lol
@@cianryan46 Tommy Emmanuel's version is great but I've always preferred this
@@thejhammer4956 ELO did a cover back in 1971. It’s called “1st Movement (Jumping Biz)”
i also like how he's concentrating instead of acting so much, like he sometimes does now

Aaaah young toby! Not knowing that he is an internet sensation
He had about 300k followers at this point in time though.
Firepants20 nah he went back and changed the description, he had
Suedeash Which at the time was pretty massive
No one seems to be talking about how well he plays this piece
Still come back to watch this masterpiece
Almost 13 years since you posted this and it still makes me smile. Thanks Toby
Still in love with this video
Damn, I never realized Toby was such a great guitar player!

I got recommend
That was really quite beautiful.
The empty-ness of the bottle shows how many tries he has had with making this video :P.
or he just drank a bunch before the tried to record this
To be fair, most good guitar music is played by drunk musicians.
@@nobodybutmys31f or a bunch of acid and weed
Now do classical gas.
never far from another simpsons nut!
Jose Montero
You, play it in two weeks time, we talk again.
But.. i think he... wait..

Damn it's like watching a whole different person
The accusations really broke him, even since 2021 he’s never been his old self
"I believe the word you are looking for is owned." XD
I can so see Toby shredding on an electric guitar.
The most inspiring thing here was the humility. :D
I just stumbled upon this, and wow. Toby, you're my favorite human.
Jesus what are the odds I randomly remembered this video on the exact 13 year anniversary... very creepy...
About 1/365
Still my favourite rendition of this song

Yes,that. And If that teacher said something here in the comment section 😎
Weird, remember watching this 14 years ago. Just checked up on it, and found he's a big youtube star now. My how things change
Now do classic gas.
2020?
I’m the true time traveler
I love hearing you play this....I love you so much!! You learn things so fast.
Toby was in school and drank? WTF
College and he was 22
And it is "Drunk"
Miscellaneous Minecrafter I think it can be either.
No it's only drank
I think when he meant by drank he literally mean he DRANK alcohol.

+Joseph Grzesiek lol
+Jasper Colpepper No, but I am from 2017 and I will tell you there will be 2016 watchers
Here.
2006 youtube omfg, brings a tear to my eye. There was no drama or no crying children on youtube.
So...did he still have to do his homework after this?
That's what I'm trying to find out! LOL Probably, though, since most teachers like to promise things they can't deliver...
I wish one day he could do a live video telecast of some sort where he can answer questions from his fans. I'd definitely ask him about this video.
now do classical gas
In 3 weeks, it'll be 10 years old :o
that's so weird to think about, he seemed like a different person
