i've said it before, i'll say it again. that kosas spf may be spf 40 but the way influencers are applying it isn't going to give spf 40 coverage. for sunscreen to do it's job properly you have to use a thicker layer to get the advertised spf as well as reapply every couple of hours. look at their kosas trip photos. they were all burned to a crisp because they weren't using the spf properly and it's so ineffective you'd have to use most of the bottle over a couple of applications in a day to get the advertised spf 40 coverage. not to mention how gross and shiny it is after just one application, imagine you're face after you've reapplied it 2 or 3 times in a day.
Exactly! This is why I buy cheaper spf or buy it on sale. There are soooo many good, cheaper sunscreens out there why spend your money on this? They didn’t, it was gifted to them yet they expect you to it’s so messed up

Yes! The spf in makeup is almost negligible as you’d have to wear so much product it wouldn’t look good 😂 it’s great to have an spf in your makeup but don’t rely on it

Take anything they do/recommend with a huge pinch of salt. It's high time to start de-influencing ourselves and be well-informed consumers. These people "looovvee" 5 new blushes every week when in reality normal working class people will probably only need 1 or 2, 3 max, ever!

Especially when they were promoting the Kosas sunscreen, it’s safe to assume anyone who went on that brand trip who promotes that product was lying. Literally everyone who went on that brand trip looked really sunburnt which also is terrible marketing on behalf of Kosas.
They are getting so much views, and people that are aware of their history and be persuaded by their videos

The fact that Mikayla used the paid partnership to promote as what she would buy during the Sephora sale is disgusting. People have waited for this sale to buy a product that they normally can’t afford and that’s what you’re using your influence for? There are going to be so many people that will use their coupons/points during this sale to buy the Kosas products and be disappointed while Mikayla pockets the profits….
I don't know if anyone else has had this issue but the Sephora app wouldn't allow me to apply my points towards items I was purchasing during the sale while I was already using the "YAYSAVE" promo code. :(

My thing with her skin care routine, I wanna see her face without ANY beauty filters. We know she probably has one on her camera, like everyone does. But if she is pushing skin care, she needs to show her unedited face before makeup. Because that will really tell the truth if it is working or not. Beauty filters on cameras smooth out the skin and color correct it.

Why are all the beauty influencers so young they only need light, preventative skin care routine and little makeup unless its creative makeup, sfx, drag, hi glam, etc. Im 35 and doing makeup on and off for 10 years. I only feel like recently ive needed the more potent skin care (which is a lot of the market, as well as heavier foundation formulas). The unfortunate thing is at 35, im considered geriatric in the beauty world no matter how good my makeup looks. Its impossible to compete with pre teens- early 20s yr olds and though ive accepted that that is not important for me, it is to some of my clients that have physical issues with stress directly due to this level of youth the beauty community has gravitated towards.
Same here. At this point I don't even listen to any makeup artists if they're under the age of 30 because as a 35 year old, our skincare and makeup needs are so different from the young ladies who don't have wrinkles and only have to worry about occasional acne. Plus I'm Taiwanese and many makeup influencers are young white girls so their colors aren't even suited to people of color. (Btw If you have any recommendations for brands that are better for mature skin, let me know)

@@ScratchMarc.honestly the only makeup influencer I watch now is Robert welsh. He is super honest about brands he doesn’t like or respect for shady dealings, he will purposely show his skin up close with no filters or extra lighting when trying new products so you can see what it’s actually like, and he has exactly my brand of sarcastic humour so I like him anyways lol he’s I think the same age as me, 35. He also has a twin brother James who does videos on the skincare side of things. They are both great.

I think brands don’t bother screening for proper disclosure because when caught, all it does is bring publicity to it. I had never heard or used Kosas before, but now know their name and products due to these videos/coverage/outrage. It benefits both creators and companies to not disclose and it’s so frustrating to see it keep happening. The seem to like by “all press is good press”.
Tha sad thing is that Dermologica is actually REALLY good, but with such promotions it’s not a good look

I recently realised that this sponsorship tag is specific to US. Mikayla being the forerunner of not disclosing on TikTok is becoming the scapegoat!
There are other creators like Jazmime Tan who aren’t not obliged to do it and people really don’t care about her. FDC clearly said that if the video is marketed towards American citizens they need to follow guidelines! But creators like Jaz do not abide by it!

As an esthetician I genuinely love Dermalogica. My school was sponsored by them and I saw really good results. What contradicts this whole "these products changed my skin" is that you can't use all of these products at once. Some can counteract with each other and they would just do nothing at all. You can not use all of these and truly know what works with your skin.

I spent thousands in the past buying what the influencers pushed hoping the next one would make me look like them. I finally realized they don't even look like that. It's filters and stuff. And the best part is, when a customer tries to order the product, they are always "sold out", I actually emailed one of them saying that maybe if they didn't give all the product away to influencers they would have some for customer to actually purchase! It’s worth it more to make an appointment with a dermatologist and see what they recommend for your skin than to listen to these influencers.
