At this rate I am just done with beauty influencers.....there is literally no one you can trust which is seriously very sad.....I wish influencers could understand there are people who have daily incomes and CANNOT afford high end products they are using WHICH IS WHY that paid sponsorship banner is extremely important because we are spending our HARD EARNED money on YOUR recommendations and if they don't work, its a waste for US and NOT you
Tbh as much as influencers should do better. Consumers also have a responsibility to themselves. These influencers depend on parasocial relationships and really we don't know these people in real life. I don't think blindly trusting any of them is good for consumers. That's how you end up buying crap that doesn't work for you. Check more reviews and do more research before spending your money.
Emily Noel, Tara Lynn, Theresa is Dead. There are some you can trust. I don’t know your age, but I am 43 and so is Tara Lynn. She is so thorough, especially when she reviews a foundation. I trust her and have never been burned on a product recommended by any of those three.
Beauty influencer starter pack: - Eagle shaped eyebrows, higher than your life expectancy - Slim nose, those who has nostrils are silly and outdated - Balooned lips, do not forget the lip gloss/lip plumper because there's no such thing as too big/too much - Always start off your video with the slow "Oh.. My.. God, you guys" - Eyes wide, do not blink, just stare into the camera
I just wanna say that the rare beauty liquid blushes are EASILY the best blushes I own. They come in such beautiful colors, and they literally blend automatically. It’s a masterpiece of a product imo.
I couldn’t agree more and what’s crazy is I bought it because I saw Mikaylas videos. She has let money and popularity go to her head in my opinion. I don’t watch her anymore and I certainly don’t trust her!
Honestly seeing the banner at the bottom of a TikTok that says “paid sponsorship” or “advertisement” is enough for me to just scroll away immediately. **This is not to say that creators shouldn’t properly disclose their affiliations of course, just that I’m not a fan of sponsored videos in general
mikayla knows what she is doing. she knows that bad press is still press, and that people on tiktok will still comment and stitch her videos even if its to criticize. she knows she can lie, do dodgy and misleading videos and people will STILL engage. i dont know when people will finally realize that not engaging and ignoring content leads to the downfall of lying creators.
So if you can, you should submit FTC complaints for these videos. However, another avenue is the brands themselves. Every brand has compliance teams which should be found on corporate sites. If you send an email to brand compliance with complaints about specific collabs, it signals to the brand that they need to push the influencers harder and to be be more strict. Nothing will change unless we push for that change. If tik tokers won't listen, go to the people who can enforce (FTC) or where their money comes from.
This tik tok "paid partnership" banner is now pointless if it is added to anyone who posts links. Because now it lost the meaning if anyone gets it. So people will just ignore it and dodgy influencers will use this to their advantage
There are literally videos where she has no accent at all! I wouldn’t know if it’s fake just from hearing it (not American), but the old videos are so blatant.
@@missybuchanan9631 older people in the Boston area tend to lose the R sound when talking so it's not fake per se but extremely exaggerated. she could have a slight accent but I've never heard anyone speak like that
It's odd seeing Mikayla changing her mind about something when she's met Selena Gomez, maybe something after that meeting made her change her mind or she did the positive reviews in hopes of something like that happening? Seems sketchy to me.
So, for people Who say that "it's just a video" and "why would you be disappointed for someone who you don't even know?" Let me explain. Some of us that are into makeup, we don't have that amount of money to expend in every new product that comes out, so, when we want to buy something, we like to make sure it's worth it. And yes, we believe in this influencers because we believe that what they're saying is true and they say it because they want us to buy good things. And a lot of people buy make up products only because their favorite influencers said so. So we need people to say the truth, and, if they're making a paid video, they should say it. We have a lot of problems in this world to have to deal with fake people that are not transparent as we all should.
@Melanie Miller I get it, but you can't say that: 1) every websites keeps all the reviews (including the bad ones, and I say it because some of them delete the bad reviews) 2) the comments on websites are as easy to find as a tiktok or youtube video
@@diana-vk7oz no they don’t always have legit reviews but if you look at the bad reviews and compare them with good ones then you can find which ones are from actual people. If you’re going to invest in expensive make up then take the time to do the research. If you don’t then what’s the point of looking at reviews or watching influencers.
@@diana-vk7oz not to mention that influencers make money on ANY review regardless if it’s good or bad. AND not everyone has the same experience with makeup. There might be someone who could get lashes to look like they have whispies on with that mascara 🤷🏼♀️ not saying she did LOL but still. Some people like things that others don’t. Just because an influencer loves a product doesn’t mean you (not you specifically) will. Plus, if you don’t like a product you can take it back!
If Mikayla had just said that since the blush review, she has discovered ones that she just likes more and that's why the rare beauty liquid blushes weren't in her top 5, that'd be one thing. But for her to turn around and say that the main characteristic of the blushes she complimented before is now the complete opposite is so shady to me.
Ironic how the fans are upset at the product for not disclosing to blend the contour when the influencer they support doesn't even disclose her sponsorships 🤭
Mikayla reminds me of Shein.. She gives a review of what everyone wants to hear and then out of kindness everyone supports that review by giving her a lot of points but once the supporters buy that product or realise it isn’t a genuine review.. You have already given her points.
I blocked all of Mikayla Noguiera's accounts when she talked about how hard being an influencer is. She's cancelled and needs to be brought up on charges by the FTC.
She blended them with a beauty blender the first time and it blended so easily and looked beautiful. This time she did it with a crappy brush and didn’t even try to blend it in nicely. She was blending it in a crappy way.
You know, that nose contour owner was super sweet! She complimented Mikayla throughout and just added that it needs to be blended. It doesn't show those in the videos so I don't blame Mikayla for using it the way she did. But I feel the owner was honest about it
I followed Mikeyla back in the day when she was only starting her journey. She was a very simple, humble person who struggled to get a good love life, and to clear out her acne. Honestly her journey to clear, glass skin was the reason I followed. She was honest, professional and nice. and then a year after she's gone viral all the shit start to rise. She was accused of using filters to edit her videos, all this sponcership mess. She's gone from a simple creator to a typical beauty influencer who thinks too high of themselves but are actually nothing without their platform. Just sad to see what fame and money does to people.
It’s not trolling if you tell people you are trolling. I am so over these TikTok influencers. I trust none of them, and will stick to my favorite, UA-cam influencers. The ones who do wear tests, and the ones who are sponsored that still tell us when they don’t like a product that is made by their sponsor.
def can still be trolling. She only said she was trolling, bcuz someone made the mistake of thinking she was ACTUALLY admitting to lash gate. Silly them to think she would admit to anything. 🙄🙄Mikayla has turned herself into a money hungry liar.
About the rare beauty bad review: wasn't there a controversy thing with beauty influencers a few years ago where competitors will pay an influencer to trash a brand? Ie. Revlon pays an influencer to trash cover girl
I really hope the FTC takes legal action against Makayla. Shut this shit down. I guarantee that if they did this, others would change their ways out of fear. The government really needs to take these influencers down a peg
The rare beauty liquid blush is so easy to blend. You just shouldn’t use so much product and she knows that! We all know that you need very little of it.
I’m the type of person who loves trying new products. I watch influencer videos in the beauty world entirely because it’s the most efficient way for me to find out about new products that I haven’t tried yet. That’s it. I don’t care about their opinions I just love trying anything cosmetic because that is where I find a source of joy. I also like learning new techniques from influencers because again, I love trying new things. If something product or technique-wise doesn’t work for me I don’t buy it again/do it again and move on. I don’t care about anyone else’s opinion besides my own but I love being made aware of anything I’m not already aware of.
I love the fact you gave us different guidelines for each country. There is a British TikToker who does comedy videos & she never follows the UK’s ASA guidelines and she deletes the comments of anyone who brings it up
Glad to watch more of this type of content regarding social media "influencers" here than the socialite/celebrity ones, because TMZ and E-News is able to cover the Gossip Entertainment Genres with ease!
I feel like in the beginning Michaela was being a superficial version of herself and now she’s starting to show her true colors. I think she’s realizing that she’s getting sick of being an influencer and removing her filters to really show her true colors. She should have been authentic from the start so then that way when she did shit like this, we weren’t surprised. She claims to be authentic but situations like this just show she wasn’t.
I think it was on Jonny Ross's podcast with Robert Welsh as the guest, they talk about how TikTok influencers will fake reviews, in hopes of getting free stuff/repost/brand deals. So I totally think the majority of Mikayla's content is based on that kind of posting. I don't follow her, and never have followed her, but it seems like that's how she got her way on the app.
For the last two or so years, i actual started using influencer promotions as my "do not buy" guide. Too many brands that promote through influencers have turned out to be shady (better help, established titles, that at home laser hair removal one, etc), that i just assume they're all not to be trusted
If you look through Mikayla's return/v-day post comments, you'll find a whole slew of influencers cosigning her deceptive marketing techniques. They're literally just outing themselves as greedy, unprincipled clout goblins.
About the rare beauty blush- she also tried 3 different methods to blend. That brush she used in the second vid was better for dry products, which she should know as a beautiful influencer.... She knew what she was doing
I can imagine a situation where you change your mind about Rare blushes. I've seen a lot of reviews that people love this blush and it's a great formula and color, but for a lot of people pigmentation became a problem. When you are in a hurry in the morning you make one awkward movement and you have half-face draping, this cannot but annoy. This problem often caused people to change their opinion from very positive to neutral or even negative. But how a person can say, at one moment, that the blush blends well, and then not, I don’t understand.
1. Because of Lashgate (and honestly, your coverage of it lol), I'm doing research for one of my classes on how someone's credibility is potentially impacted because of language use in sponsored content. It's not beauty specific, but I still feel like I should thank you for the inspo (someone else is solely focusing on the beauty influencers on TikTok though!) 2. One source I found doing this research said the FTC more likely to target brands/advertisers with fines, and they're not going after influencers directly (as of 2020 when the article was published). Even then, fines were targeted more towards food/drug companies than beauty ones, which doesn't help. I do agree that someone needs to be fined, mainly the brands (especially the major ones). There's hardly any precedent in this area, so I don't think anything will change until there's serious consequences. Not going after anyone means it only enables this kind of behavior.
Wth do you mean you have to be told to BLEND your contour in order for it to work? That’s such an obvious step. If you have to be told to do something that’s just common sense to do, that’s on you, not on the product, not on the company. It’s like getting mad at someone that didn’t tell you to rinse the dishes after scrubbing them with soap and water, it’s just dumb.
As a teenager I will never understand how influencers don’t get how there are impressionable people on the internet and how they are not saying they’re promoting a product, people will buy the product and not get what they paid for
In my opinion that I just can’t believe that these influencers get away with not disclosing that they are sponsored. Like seriously it’s a simple thing to do. Even the app can do it for you. I just hope that they learn from what they did. Cause seriously take some responsibility for your actions and behavior.
I'm a MINI micro influencer, but I normally just do and support my favorite brand. I'm not paid by them or anything. Just truly love the brand and the products. So if I ever got sponsored I'd wanna hype that up so much!!! No matter the brand!
At this point, it's no longer about lashgate. She clearly says whatever needs to be said for clout and money. If you change your mind about a product, cool beans. Her second review though, she talks as if she's forgotten that she already reviewed it. LOL
What I noticed about the rare beauty tik toks is that in the first one where she raves about them she really did only use one dab of it and blended it but in the 2nd one it looks like when she cut out and came back she applied more to drag the brand to subtly announce she’s team hailey.
Is the FTC even cracking down on these influencers? I feel that enough people are aware of their shady tactics. If you haven’t unfollowed them yet, it means you don’t care. The real tea would be an influencer getting in legal trouble over this
I agree with you about everything except the liquid blush, I thought it was amazing then i tried other and realised they work better for me, i mean the rare has been out more than a year, and everyone’s doing liquid blush now and there are so many different formulas its fair for them to no longer be in the top 5, FYI i prefer the solid cream blush to the liquid also 🤷🏻♀️
It’s nothing new, but still disappointing to hear Tiktok influencers not disclosing their sponsorships. It’s not that hard to say, “This video is sponsored by….” or “I’m a partner with L’Oreal”. She also didn’t have to do the Rare Beauty liquid blushes like that. It’s ok to change your mind on products, but it’s suspicious how she did a 180 like that.
One thing I find interesting is how Makayla claimed she loved the rare beauty blush and that her technique was to use a beauty blender but then when she suddenly didn’t like the blush she used a brush to supposedly demonstrate how “hard” it was to blend. Idk but that seemed purposeful on her part. Everyone knows beauty sponges make for a sheer application while brushes always provide fuller coverage, it seemed pretty sketchy and purposeful on her part and I hope her influence goes down in flames. I mean the joking about her lying just really takes it to a whole new level of despicable.
instead of talking about it, the ones of us who use tiktok should just go to said influencer page and report the content. They will get banned and that is it. WE who followed the YT beauty community forget the people consuming tiktok is much much much younger than we are and probably have no idea what they are consuming so far. So that's it.

At this rate I am just done with beauty influencers.....there is literally no one you can trust which is seriously very sad.....I wish influencers could understand there are people who have daily incomes and CANNOT afford high end products they are using
WHICH IS WHY that paid sponsorship banner is extremely important because we are spending our HARD EARNED money on YOUR recommendations and if they don't work, its a waste for US and NOT you
Tbh as much as influencers should do better. Consumers also have a responsibility to themselves. These influencers depend on parasocial relationships and really we don't know these people in real life. I don't think blindly trusting any of them is good for consumers. That's how you end up buying crap that doesn't work for you. Check more reviews and do more research before spending your money.
I just stopped watching them all together. Literally just started unfollowing and blocking crap off my feed.
Emily Noel, Tara Lynn, Theresa is Dead. There are some you can trust. I don’t know your age, but I am 43 and so is Tara Lynn. She is so thorough, especially when she reviews a foundation. I trust her and have never been burned on a product recommended by any of those three.
Exactly!!
Alexandra Anele, Natasha Nyqvist, Allie Glines, Soph Does Life, James and Robert Welsh, Jackie Aina, Nyma Tang, Ohema

"Guys this is LIFE CHANGING..I can't..just can't!"
No way HER fans are telling that brand that the advertising is deceptive, but still supporting HER😭 like of all people
They are so fking brainwashed by her
I just wanna say that the rare beauty liquid blushes are EASILY the best blushes I own. They come in such beautiful colors, and they literally blend automatically. It’s a masterpiece of a product imo.
I have the milk liquid blush, and I borrowed my friends rare beauty liquid blush and you’re 10000% right. Soooooo much better than mine 😫
Yes! I love them! I basically don't use powder blush any more. Bliss is my everyday, every look shade.
I couldn’t agree more and what’s crazy is I bought it because I saw Mikaylas videos. She has let money and popularity go to her head in my opinion. I don’t watch her anymore and I certainly don’t trust her!
The best liquid blush products of all time!! IMO 😊
Honestly seeing the banner at the bottom of a TikTok that says “paid sponsorship” or “advertisement” is enough for me to just scroll away immediately.
**This is not to say that creators shouldn’t properly disclose their affiliations of course, just that I’m not a fan of sponsored videos in general
mikayla knows what she is doing. she knows that bad press is still press, and that people on tiktok will still comment and stitch her videos even if its to criticize. she knows she can lie, do dodgy and misleading videos and people will STILL engage. i dont know when people will finally realize that not engaging and ignoring content leads to the downfall of lying creators.
mikayla and trisha collab!
The fact she had ANY followers is mind blowing.
This tik tok "paid partnership" banner is now pointless if it is added to anyone who posts links. Because now it lost the meaning if anyone gets it. So people will just ignore it and dodgy influencers will use this to their advantage
Literally. It will just muddy the already muddied waters.
I kinda understand it because some people who post links also make money from people buying using their link even if it’s a couple cents.
I unfollowed Mikayla the first mock tock she did. Like how can you be proud for lying and getting caught?
Absolutely crazy how influencers are getting away with this
She’s using a brush in the second rare video and she used a sponge in the first review 🙄 I feel she used the brush to purposely make it look bad
Yep. I have to use a sponge with those blushes, but when I do they are gorgeous and last all day.
We need to be holding brands accountable as well. They're approving these videos knowing there's no disclosure.
7:00 im from the boston area and damn her voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me, it is so obviously fake it hurts
Then stop listening to them. Start reading reviews from people who buy and aren’t professional/influencers on the products.
@Melanie Miller I get it, but you can't say that:
1) every websites keeps all the reviews (including the bad ones, and I say it because some of them delete the bad reviews)
2) the comments on websites are as easy to find as a tiktok or youtube video
Plus, if you don’t like a product you can take it back!
dramaggedon was a group of people who took their viewers for granted. Here she’s single-handedly bringing down the tiktok beauty community
Mark my words, she will get away with anything. Both her and her "fans" are ignorant and they will thrive no matter what💀
Ironic how the fans are upset at the product for not disclosing to blend the contour when the influencer they support doesn't even disclose her sponsorships 🤭
Cant believe this is what brought Jeffree Star back 🤔
😂😂😂
Is there a way to return him? Genuine asking😐
The way she makes fun of being accused of false advertising is gross
It’s not trolling if you tell people you are trolling. I am so over these TikTok influencers. I trust none of them, and will stick to my favorite, UA-cam influencers. The ones who do wear tests, and the ones who are sponsored that still tell us when they don’t like a product that is made by their sponsor.
def can still be trolling. She only said she was trolling, bcuz someone made the mistake of thinking she was ACTUALLY admitting to lash gate. Silly them to think she would admit to anything. 🙄🙄Mikayla has turned herself into a money hungry liar.
@@tyffaneelavely8087 I already know that. No offense it’s not trolling to me. It makes them look dumb, and she also thinks her whole audience is dumb.
Omg I’m shocked she actually admitted to it
She knew she'd lose support if she didn't
@@galileebashaw7610 that hasn’t stopped influencers before

"I cant believe people expect me to be honest! So cruel and unfair!" - Mikayla
lashgate is going on for sooo long i swear
About the rare beauty bad review: wasn't there a controversy thing with beauty influencers a few years ago where competitors will pay an influencer to trash a brand? Ie. Revlon pays an influencer to trash cover girl
That's not even controversy it's just standard practice sadly.
What I think is crazy is that the brands aren’t being held accountable as much as the influencers. Don’t they have to approve these posts?
All of those influencers are scammers. Period
The way mikayla pronounced target made me want to bang my head against the wall
I feel like in the beginning Michaela was being a superficial version of herself and now she’s starting to show her true colors. I think she’s realizing that she’s getting sick of being an influencer and removing her filters to really show her true colors. She should have been authentic from the start so then that way when she did shit like this, we weren’t surprised. She claims to be authentic but situations like this just show she wasn’t.
And I really don’t care that I spelled her name wrong. Voice to text. 🤷🏻♀️
The TAAAHGET got me crying 😂
For the last two or so years, i actual started using influencer promotions as my "do not buy" guide. Too many brands that promote through influencers have turned out to be shady (better help, established titles, that at home laser hair removal one, etc), that i just assume they're all not to be trusted
I clicked so fast because i was curious how it went down. Honestly the fact she didn't get sued or fined is mind boggling 🤯
This situation made me look at other influencers in a whole new light, especially Nikki. I don't think her short form reviews are genuine anymore 😢
Same here
Yeah I always got a weird vibe from her. She seems fake
Glamzilla is literally Mikayla, but worse. Don’t trust her she is a bully ! Her ex best friend did a tiktok video on her and I’m shook

They still do that because people still support them ☹️ there are NO consequences for those creators.
I think that the HUGE problem with influencers in general is that they give you their first impression and that's it.
1. Because of Lashgate (and honestly, your coverage of it lol), I'm doing research for one of my classes on how someone's credibility is potentially impacted because of language use in sponsored content. It's not beauty specific, but I still feel like I should thank you for the inspo (someone else is solely focusing on the beauty influencers on TikTok though!)
I can’t believe people actually like her💀
Too much drama hopefully one day she grows up.
I get unreasonably annoyed hearing Mikayla’s voice because of all of this drama 💀
This Mikayla person has one of the most grating personalities ever.
The dog paws 😂❤ so cute
As a teenager I will never understand how influencers don’t get how there are impressionable people on the internet and how they are not saying they’re promoting a product, people will buy the product and not get what they paid for
We need a video on her “loving” rhode beauty !
What’s your Tiltok?
At this point, it's no longer about lashgate. She clearly says whatever needs to be said for clout and money. If you change your mind about a product, cool beans. Her second review though, she talks as if she's forgotten that she already reviewed it. LOL
What I noticed about the rare beauty tik toks is that in the first one where she raves about them she really did only use one dab of it and blended it but in the 2nd one it looks like when she cut out and came back she applied more to drag the brand to subtly announce she’s team hailey.
She admitted it because her fans think this scam was a flex and love her for it. It’s kind of delusional lol
12:50 woah she’s stunning 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 love that for her
That’s me!!!! THANK YOU🥹🫶🏼🤍 you’re too sweet
The FTC is busy with the two bank crashes for now (speaking as a finance girl)
to me it just comes off like she just doesn’t care about her fans AT ALL. she’s just trolling them at this point. never trusting tik tokers again.
yeah well , Mikayla is on my never to watch list now because rare beauty has some of the best products there is
Her goddamn voice 😵💫🥴
its 12am and i have classes at 6, but this is far more important tbh
the dog paws on the laptop 🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰
It’s ok to change your mind on products, but it’s suspicious how she did a 180 like that.
if all the fake accents, i don’t know why she would choose that one. it’s so crass and abrasive.
“BeInG aN iNfLuEnCer is JuSt AS hArD aS A 9-5” then doesn’t do the BARE MINIMUM telling everyone I know to unfollow Mikala
instead of talking about it, the ones of us who use tiktok should just go to said influencer page and report the content. They will get banned and that is it. WE who followed the YT beauty community forget the people consuming tiktok is much much much younger than we are and probably have no idea what they are consuming so far. So that's it.
When she tries to be genuine it always fails cuz she can’t keep up with who she’s “obsessed” with
