I'm not defending her, but this is pretty standard. Cosmetic products cost next to nothing to actually manufacture whether its Elf or Dior. That 96c does not include the research and development, design or marketing costs. There is a lot more cost involved in an end product than just the manufacturing price so this is just fake outrage tbh.

@Trinity M the hairs are unsanitary. cosmetic labs should not have animals in them, especially considering oxygen is supposed to be cruelty free. not only that, her makeup brand itself isn’t popular the way it could have been. as someone who works very hard for their money and doesn’t have a ton to buy extra, if i buy something i’d like for it to meet health and safety standards. it’s a health issue at that point
@Trinity M also, had she been honest about morphe’s involvement i think people would have been supportive. it doesn’t matter that she has a parent company. what matters is she completely lied to her audience and everyone thought she was the owner and provided the funds for this brand to happen.

Not only that but may be due to the NDAs and such she may not have been able to throw them under the bus. She may have had to legally take it all on. I'm wondering how that works like was she forced to have to take all the blame or did she do it because she didn't want to have to come out as being a liar about the brand being hers or what. Either way that had to SUCK having to be the face and voice for all the backlash and clean up when she wasn't the one paying for or ordering anything. But karma is a bitch and she did it to herself.
Something tells me the 97 cent price with the high markup isn't unique to this case. We don't know how much additional cost the component and labeling added per unit, but I imagine if we were able to see the wholesale prices for most luxury makeup we'd see similar numbers in many of them.
Especially if Morphe provided the components. So the lab was only charging for the mass production of the lipstick itself.
Right? There is 0 chance she's an anomaly in makeup merchandising. 100% other "lux" makeup brands are upcharging 10000%.

It's like... I know there's a markup on most things... and the markup on makeup is usually a lot 60-80% (from what i remember but I could be wayyyy off) but .96 to $49?? That like 5000% markup. Tbh fair because she managed to do it but that's a scam if I've ever heard it
$49 Four pack of three so really they are about $16/$17 each which isn’t that expensive for lipsticks. I’ve bought a lipstick from Huda beauty that was like 30 bucks

In chapter 11 bankruptcy you get to restructure your business and write off anything that was a "loss". It's a pretty common business move. It's when you hear they filed chapter 9 that you know they're not doing well. This move could have just been that they don't want to pay out what they owe the influencers or any number of shady reasons
Bankrupt isn’t really as bad as most of us think it is when we hear the word used. Especially when it comes to a company that profits this much!

Honestly speaking I'm not surprised about any of this information coming out. With Jacklyn's track record it's hard not to be suspicious of what comes out of her mouth. I believe that she jumped on an opportunity, tried to do a cover up and now it's coming back to bite her. Funnily enough I know that she'll still have some die hards eating up her lies
A “small business” would probably not be able to get the costs that low. I think Morphe ordered it for them bc they already have an existing partnership with the lab. That being said, it should be a 10 dollar lipstick at most.

It’s actually quite common for a company to pay for another company to get off the ground and be paid back by that new company without them being a parent company. So morphe could have paid for everything and “sold” everything to JH. Morphe may have had a better customer relationship with oxygen and would have gotten a better deal on pricing than if JH went by herself.

@@ellasledge8785 I work for a company that is “sponsoring” another company to get started but my company isn’t the owner of that new company. They have no say in what the new company does. It’s almost more like my company is giving this new company a loan but as they need it? I’m not entirely sure the logistics of it all lol. And it could’ve happened that way, but then the lipsticks bombed and JH needed a partner and went under Forma or whatever it is. So she might’ve not technically lied when she said she was owner and CEO because she very well could have been, in that moment. No one will actually know unless they talk about.
Jen Luv is a lovely person! I appreciate how hard she work & study to deliver us tea, gossip, lawsuits & what's really going on in beauty & skincare companies because most people only focusing on influencers/people that presenting brands but don't pay attention to company itself that much. Many many problematic companies out there we need to watch out.

It is interesting though because the lipstick orders say “extended order” which makes me think is that what they were ordering after the initial order, anticipating they were going to sell out. No way did they only buy 2,000 lipsticks of each shade. Or was that the PR batch.

Jen Luv compared order dates and basically concluded that this batch of lipsticks would’ve been shipped and delivered about a week before launch, meaning it couldn’t have been the PR batch. So I think they most likely ordered these lipsticks thinking they were gonna sell out, but then when they had to refund everybody they just didn’t bother to finish paying the lab.

A lot of products, especially makeup, is cheap to make. That’s not really new or a shocker. Even Jeffree talked about it in his series with Shane Dawson. It’s called margins. Company’s always price their products higher than what it costs to make…that’s how they make money

All cosmetics and clothes etc are made with a LOT less than they sell them for. It’s just about the profit. I work for a company, not gonna say the name, and I can see the production cost of Yeezys which is 30 pounds and a lot more brands…we are paying a lot more than you will think for everything

If y'all are this mad about the markup for the lipsticks, you're really gonna be mad when you find out about pharmaceutical markups. It literally costs them nothing to make medications but the markup is often 1000% or more. I remember one company was making a COVID treatment, it cost them $10 to make it but they were trying to charge people $5k out of pocket and $1k with certain insurance companies
