I don’t know if “woody” means loss of harmonics, but the sound seems somehow muffled to me…
Having said that, as a sax player/flute doubler I could try with a leather mouthpiece ligature and see how it goes!

A skilled musician like you can make Bach sound heavenly good on any instrument. (The comment suggesting getting a recorder for the money must be daft! Knowing your take on other wind instruments).
