Thagard speaks Russian to cosmonauts, the cosmonauts dont speak a word of English (even if out of courtesy) as it is below their dignity to do this on board of *their* station... Just these little things.. So I do not agree with you, there was never any hope
@@69chal - perhaps you should watch the video again. Pay particular attention to the speech given by Anatoly Solovyev (born in Riga, Latvia), from 1:01:07 to 1:02:02.
Isn't it remarkable, how the short-lived democracy in Russia (1990-2003) brought fantastic cooperation in space between Russia and the United States. What we could have achieved together if Russia hadn't slid back down in to the old Soviet ways, I'm sure would be staggering, we'd probably have had a base on the moon by 2015, possibly even together with the Chinese. A scenario I much prefer over the dividedness we now have. I know the ISS is still managed by both the US and Russia, but the relationship is extremely strained, something that is never good for anyone, especially up there. I say this not as a political statement, just pointing out how I experienced and evaluate that period. Peace Bro
The good news on this flight is that this coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Apollo-Soyuz Mission and to this day is an example of the United States and Russia proving that inspite of problems (like the invasion of Ukraine by the russians) that two nations can work together in space. The bad news was that this flight and eight other shuttle flights were upstaged and whose coverage was thrown under the bus, because people were paying more attention to the OJ Simpson Murder Trial that lasted over a year. It also didn't help that "The Jerry Springer Show" was getting hot in the ratings (I will not be showing any videos from that show due to its strong language and strong adult content). I would like to ask you to not post any comments questioning whether or not OJ Simpson was guilty or not, because it is not the place to do that.
Retro Space HD this is PURE GOLD 😱, thank you very much. Hail Space Shuttle Program ❤️
Big hug space friend 🤜🤛👨🚀 🫂
the 90s were a time of hope... all dashed to pieces for the ignorance and malice of politicians ... we've been set back at least 30 years...
I fully agree
