I know some of the more jazz orientated musicians of the era were a bit ''sniffy'' about the Hall orchestra but I would think they brought joy to millions of listeners in difficult times. Shame there is so little footage around of the '' Dance Band Era''.
I enjoyed seeing Harry Robbins Jr. He very much inspires my Xylophone playing (with two and four mallets). He, George Hamilton Green, and Teddy Brown have all made me love Mallet instruments
Marvellous footage. So rare, pity not more.
Great Film i really enjoyed seeing Henry Hall and the BBC Dance Orchestra.
Henry Hall comes across as very affable and good humoured. I love his orchestra. They made so many lovely recordings. My fave is "The Song Is You."
I love watching this
That would have been in 1932, when the newly formed 'BBC Dance Orchestra' directed by Henry Hall, took over from Jack Payne & His BBC Dance Orchestra.
Those were reallly different times.....
Val Rosing vocals so recognizable...
Interesting architectural observation: the statue of ariel is not yet in place on this film
Or the clock hands Gavin !
This is fantastic, and makes me very happy!
Una Prestigiosa Orquesta
Very nice!
Nice to see Stuart Hibberd in non-serious mood.
Isn't this the first BBC Dance Orchestra or am I being too picky. Great film by the way.
No, there were other BBC orchestras before
@@tupinijazz I think the previous bands had a contract to play on the BBC, for instance when Jack Payne stopped playing for them he took his band wth him.
