LEXINGTON AVENUE ELEVATED in pictures BKLYN N.Y

The Lexington Ave. El is a remnant of the old Brooklyn Elevated RR (MAIN LINE) which was Brooklyn's first real el, opening in 1885. This line in it's original extent , started at the fulton ferry and ran along YORK ST., HUDSON AVE, PARK AVE , GRAND AVE , LEXINGTON AVE. & BROADWAY to eastern pkway .. Between 1889 &1891 the Park Ave segment was eliminated, while the part on YORK ST & HUDSON AVE. was abandon in 1904. The GRAND AVE & LEXINGTON AVE portion became the LEXINGTON AVE. EL , which ran until 1950. . the BROADWAY part became part of the BROADWAY EL , since 1888 when they extended a line from Williamsburg Bklyn. Both the LEXINGTON & THE 5TH AVE. / BAYRIDGE EL used a connection with the MYRTLE AVE. EL to reach the Brooklyn Br. area , Instead of the OLD BROOKLYN ELEVATED RR MAINLINE ,as it originally did

Got one ride on the Lex before they tore it down. Moved to Ashland Pl and Myrtle Ave near the Navy St station. At 1:13, probably a group of Brooklyn Tech students on their morning commute to Navy St. The BU cars were great when the side windows were removed and pull down shades were installed. Except when the rain was coming in sideways.

in 1966, I had a summer job at Nadel's Bookbindery at Myrtle Ave and Bridge Street.....since I was on the second floor.......the Myrtle Ave El was right outside our window at the end of the line.........

Today, You can still a trace of the Old BMT Lexington Avenue El at Broadway & Gates Avenue in Brooklyn New York.
