The German Il-28 can use a forest camoflage. There is sometimes a glitch where your Il-28 can appear with the skin of one from another nation, since they all use the same game model.

Quick tip for Air RB:
The 4 500kg bombs actually deal more damage towards bombing targets than the single 3000kg bomb.
Rather than leaving the target with ~1/4 of its HP (like in the video), the 4 500s are just enough to completely destroy it :)

just wondering cause the 500s have 325kg of TNT for 4x 325kg = 1300kg Total while the 3000 has 1400kg
Do you happen to know what external factors/stats (if any) affect the damage bombs do to bases in particular?
I have only been using TNT to choose my loadouts and this would be something worth looking into imo.
@@TheJuskr different bombs has different damage value to bases (and bases also have different hp varying from some b.r ranges). Having more total TNT in your bomb load does not necessarily mean that you will deal more damage. For an example in the He 177 A-5 at 6.0, you can completely destroy one base with only 24xSC50 50kg bombs which equals to 600kg of TNT (you can even kill a base with only 10x50kg bombs at 4.0-4.3 matchmaking and lower in other planes). However, a single SC1000 1000kg bomb that has the same TNT equivalent of 600kg from the 24xSC50 will only deal, like, 2/5 of the base HP. Using two SC1000 that equals to 1200kg of TNT does not even destroy the base at all. With the SC1000, you need around 1.28 tons of TNT equivalent to destroy a base which means 3x1000kg bomb drop. If you want more examples, please let me know. But that statement is true. 4x500kg FAB-500 can deal enough damage (90-95%ish damage) to a base that the base itself will be destroyed by it's own, giving you the base destruction rewards. This is still up to date as I have recently verify it by doing some destroy bases special task while spading some Tu-2s and the German Il-28. If you have any question other than why it's like that (I'm not sure myself other than guessing that it's for game "balance"), please let me know

You missed one major thing on this - NO AIRBRAKE. You need to be very careful with dives in RB, or you can easily tear the wings off.
Great video as always. One correction though, the German Il-28 actually has a skin you can get but very few people know about it. I only found out about it recently
when landing, keep the gear up, dump it on the runway at 400kph, use the rudder to slide sideways for quicker turnarounds.
Hot landings in the IL-28 are fun because the flaps produce so much lift that if you deploy them at the edge of your flap extension range (~500kph) you'll enter an involuntary pitch up until your speed drops to more reasonable levels
The best mission conduct in Air RB is to dive gradually till you hit around ~820Kh/m IAS & to try to keep yourself above 800Kh/m for as long as possible till you get to the target to bomb normally, the best loadout is 4x500Kg bombs which could destroy one base. Way before we got the great nerf of 40% to destroying AI controlled targets, whenever I would spawn in the map Spain (not sure if I'm correct) with the really bad bomb placement being very close to enemy airfields, I do dive as fast as possible toward the water fly as low as possible (I was usually spawn in the bottom airfield), get close to the destroyers & try to fly in a line, open bomb bay & on the right time drop a 500Kg bomb to destroy the target, it is way easier approaching the destroyers from behind. This was yielding more than base bombing at the time as destroying 3 destroyers would net you just very much slightly below destroying a base while you could destroy 4 destroyers. This was really enjoyable to do but got to be done hastily as AA fire can kill you or make sure you don't make it to rearm.

Fun fact: always take 4x500kg bombs and not the 3000kg bomb. 4x500kg can take out a strategic base whereas a 3000kg bomb can't for SOME reason

Such a weird concept but cries in Yak-28B with only 2× 500 kg bombs or 1× 1500/3000kg bomb.
Damn, i was starting to feel relieved now that i got the 3000kg one.
The 500kg ones always get spread everywhere if you're bombing from altitude and using this plane is always a huge risk especially if you can't avoid enemy fighters by playing the waiting game aka. bombing from the stratosphere.
Not a consistent way to use up those boosters, especially with the F4D-s hanging in space these days and this plane is still way too slow to rush bases headfirst at low alt.
Guess i will have to rely solely on fighters to grind out the tree in the USSR-s case, this is going to take a while mostly without boosters at Rank 5 to 6 until the SU-25.
There's such a gap in performance when i compare my Israeli Vautour IIA which is a decent R5 grinder at 9.0 with the IL-28 that kind of struggles to hold its own at 8.0 and is a bit of a pain.
If my team is losing it's almost guaranteed i'm gonna have a bad time, meanwhile i rush bases with the Vautour 8 min fuel and the smallest bombload that can still take out a single base and it's almost guaranteed i get something in return for my time for flying it out, if nothing else a base's worth of RP and SL.
I think nowadays the IL-28 falls to the same category as the B-57-s and Canberras, good for Ground RB because of the 3000kg bomb though.

Il-28Sh grinded my entire tier 6. Drop bombs, return 90% of the time, depending on team situation take either gunpods or rocket pods, get massive XP and SL rewards.
also - be sure to bind booster engines. it helps taking off and its there anyways
also also - you need like 4-6 HE 23mms to destroy ground targets. AP ones will side-pen pz-3s and t-34 76 (AI no-damage model versions.)

Something important to note is that none of the Il-28s get an airbrake or drag chute, so you need to slow down a lot more before the airfield. Especially with how much lift the flaps give, your landing runs are gonna be at like 280kmh tops. Though with how big it is, it bleeds speed when you S-turn before the airfield. Or just belly land, the damn thing is big enough to belly land and do just fine.

I see you dropping the 3000kg bomb and clearing only 3/4ths of a base. Try it with 4X500 kg bombs instead. For some reason 2000kg will do what 3000kg won't. It has always been a mystery to me as to how that works, but it does.
Ya it through me off to. I was excited to get the 3000kg bomb then found out it won't take out a base. Fun for tank rb though
It's the shrapnel damage, apparently smaller bombs have more shrapnel so more small bombs destroy bases yet large ones do jack shit (what a dumb logic in game).

IL28Sh is my favorite by far running around with gun pods is just fun especially slapping fighters as a dogfighter in RB.
Rocket cas in grb used to be more viable, but now everyone gets proxy rounds and since youre huge youre basically food for them.
One thing you did not mention is that you can land this beast with landing gear up and take ZERO DAMAGE if youre careful enough. Friction will slow you down way faster that brakes, which is especially useful given that this thing gets no airbrakes
Agreed, landing on wheels is for scrubs. Landing on your engine pods is how you're truly meant to land.
The H-5 is my favorite bomber so far. I put a talisman on it and that makes it an awesome grinder.
It really is a fun jet.
I wish these were more useful, but I'm looking forward to the one I'll unlock as I grind China. Need to research the Tu-4 though, which there's no way I'm touching for now. My desire to eventually spade every plane looks bleaker all the time...

Our B-52 is 73 years old and still in service!!
IL 28 used to be good before people cried about the rear 23mm turret so its ammo got nerfed into the ground along with the turret armor. It also used to get 2 x 1500 bombs which again got removed on top of that when it first got put in its max speed was much closer to the max speed of the fighters meaning you could run away and blast them with the turret while the closing speed was about 100 or less kph (if they could even catch you). In ground RB you can lob the 3000 bomb onto spaa/tanks from about 4-5 Km away which is always amusing

Still my most played aircraft in WT, grinded the whole rank 5 with it, one thing that i hate on this thing is only the rip speed, and the fact current MM with missile thunder
Missile thunder is tough, especially since there are missile-armed planes at its BR, so it’s not like you can get downtiered out of it. Also the proliferation of A-4’s is a problem… it’s irritating to have an aim-9b launched at you before you’ve even reached your first target.

Do you really use a stream deck for activating boosters and such? If so, i'd love to see how you set it up and how it works with war thunder
I do - I use my streamdeck as a makeshift MFD for gaming. in WT most of my keys on it are for operating the radar and stuff (if you pause the footage you can see). I did the graphics/icons myself.
In my opinion IL-28 is Sea Vixsen's favorite targets (also like B-57 or canberra)

I trick I like to do with the IL-28:
Take the 4x 500kg bombs, climb at 7 degrees towards a base and bomb it.
then turn around in a slight decent towards your airfield and turn off your engines.
Then just glide your way back to base!
If something like a sea vixen tries to kill you with it's IR missiles, just point and laugh while you shoot him with your turret :D
When you are going in for landing, only then turn on your engines and throttle to 33%

This thing, when it first came out, faced on Mig15bis, F86F, and etc. When it was in a shallow dive those early jets arent much faster than it. Back in those days you can literally rely on AI gunner to get you three kills a game easy

1 thing I've found is that if you use 4 500kg bombs to bomb a base point, it KOs.
Whereas if you use the 3000kg bomb, it only does 3/4 of the base... I don't get whats going on here since the 3ton has more TNT compared to the 4x500kg.
How many pounds does it take now to take a base out. I thought it was 4000lbs to take one out? Has it changed it the last yr?

While I'm more fond of the Tu-14T the IL-28's are super useful but the BR compression ruins them like most.
But you mentioning the destructive power of the high capacity bombs is ehh funny yet sad as large bombs in AF are only useful against hardened targets like heavy pillboxes or dreadnoughts or aviation carriers/cruiser as they cannot destroy any base due to crap shrapnel amounts.
One note Canberra is said more like Can-Bra then Can-Bear-ra but that can be put off to being you're of a different English language like with many other words.
I got the German one and the main problem with it is for me that the arado c3 before it is quite a bit better
Is it though? The arado has a lighter bomb load and weaker guns, and if I’m not mistaken is slower too.

If bombers were not so useless in-game, I honestly would try to fly this instead of avoiding it like the plague.
The b57 and the il28 are not useless at all because they have guns they can play as fighters or interceptors or as groundstrikers or as bombers so they are really in the multi roles hehe if you think this aircraft are useless something is wrong
IL-28 is borderline overpowered... it turns amazingly... have most overpowered gunners... you can easily get kills... i once or twice had like 6 kills with it... and a lot of bombing of bases... and i got like 40k rp lol ( i had premium acc + talisman )
Il-28 is FAAAAAR from useless... infact it's the most useful bomber ever... especially IL-28Sh... it's a multirole heavy fighter lol
It can even dodge missiles... but can't dodge good ones like 9J and similar... or R-60... but you shouldn't be able to see those... right? So you will only see Aim-9B's and stuff...
And F-89D's :(
But all in all... IL-28's are really overpowered grinders... i always rush a jet bomber like it to grind the tech tree with it...
With IL-28 before rank 7 was added... i grinded EVERYTHING with it... i skipped everything and got straight into missile thunder.. and supersonics... where it's fun... i got Yak-38M and MiG-21 SMT ... these were the first jets i got / used other then IL-28 xD

Swriousltt, what's the connection between small ammo pools and Russians? I understand why they did it in ww2 but what excuse do they have now?

The US continuously upgrades the B-52 all the time, and those aircraft are also meticulously maintained to keep them operational and safe. I doubt North Korea has the technical know-how to add more modern guided weapon systems or missile countermeasures to their Il-28s, though they seem to have had some success in keeping them flying as the last operator of the type in the world. The engines are the same type as the MiG-15 and 17 which they also still operate

to me, AIM-9Bs aren't a threat. if you're struggling, fly with one wing pointed to the ground, then swing the plane left and right, that will force the missile beyond its 10G load and knock it away from your tail
Stock version is awful, also idiots better said most F84F never mark bases, you drop bombs and before it hits, half of the base is gone bombs wasted
