My name is David Smart. As a child I lived in Long Compton (1966-1969). My father was in the U.S.AF. and was stationed at Upper Hayford A.F.B. When we moved to long Compton we lived at the Red Lion for a while. I really miss the whole village. Great to see the Cotwolds again.

Vanda, I do not know if you have ever had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful place, but, if you haven't, I highly recommend it. Just recently, a lovely couple I met through this channel visited the Cotswolds and allowed me to make some recommendations. I was honoured to get to connect them with some great people and sights there. They had a splendid and relaxed time. So many tourists race through in a day or a few hours. I was thrilled they truly took the time to really immerse themselves in the Cotswolds. It is the only way to appreciate the stunning scenery, architecture and hospitality. Each village has its own personality, history and pace that should be experienced independently.

It is originally called Triumphal Gate. Locally, it is known as the Woodstock Gate because, as you leave through it, you would be going to the town of Woodstock. Thanks for your kind words and views!
If your new to the cotswolds, upper & lower slaughter is a must, don’t drive to them, park up in lower and walk to upper via the path alongside the tea room.

To use a couple of my catchphrases, so here’s the story & you can completely trust me on this one ! We did indeed film at Minster Lovell on a particularly beautiful morning & I have to say it was one of our better pieces as there is so many great stories there & at the church . On our return over here in the good old US of A , North East Pennsylvania if you need to know we went into the studio to start putting it all together & that’s when we discovered that all the audio from there & a couple of other locations was completely shot & completely unusable. So there you have it mate . We will be back over next summer, obviously Covid permitting , for a well earned family holiday for 4 weeks & the plan is to do some more filming. Syed, You can travel there on a budget and still get a taste of real England; however, I would imagine buying a piece of authentic England would cost quite a bit.
SYED ADEEL HUSSAIN There are Premier Inns and plenty of cheap B&B’s all over the UK. So exploring the Uk is possible on a budget. Especially in the Cotswolds. Make up some sandwiches and a thermos and you’re good to go. But for those who do decide to visit, even on a budget, they must treat themselves to a pub lunch and an English cream tea whilst they’re there. ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
A nice program, but too focussed on religious material and only covers the northern area (apart from Bibury). You have also fallen into the Daily Mail trap of extending the boundaries of the Cotswolds.

We at Tour Guides Travel Guides welcome all comments, good, bad & in your case indifferent to the absolute barking ! To address your thoughts, I have after 30 years in the travel industry, had a pretty clear idea to the boundaries of the Cotswolds & am not entirely sure to which trap in the Daily Mail “ The Worlds Greatest Newspaper “ you refer to, not a journal I ever read anyway. Perhaps you could enlighten me. I don’t think we over did it on any religious matters, however, the wool churches are a very important part of the Cotswolds landscape. With regards to the itinerary it is one of many that can be easily done in a weekend, as the title suggests. We do plan to come back over to the UK next summer to do some more filming & yes the Cotswolds has already been discussed. Finally to your other comment regarding Great Tew , admittedly not your typical Cotswolds village, darker stone, thatched roofs etc. but definitely on the edge of the Cotswolds, again I would welcome your comments as to why it is not. The flag of England as a country comes from the the flag of the Republic of Genoa. In medieval times England had not a royal navy that dates at 16th century. It was not a powerful navy and so England payed a tribute to the Republic of Genoa to expose its flag, that was the St George Red Cross. If an england ship was attacked by other ships it was like that was attcked a Genoa ship and Genoa had a powerfull military fleet.

Great film but could be so much better with more skilful camera work, scene transitions and tighter editing. Leaving a camera on auto aperture on is a big no no.That said, nice work but please work on the production values. All the best

Exactly, it would prevent ignorant Americans slagging off our weather. Even though it rains less in the Cotswolds annually than the majority of places in the States!

This should be renamed "Cotswolds Churches Tour". Spent WAY too much time in and around the churches, with just brief glimpses of the towns and villages, which should have been the focus of the guide.

To use a couple of my catchphrases, so here’s the story & you can completely trust me on this one ! We did indeed film at Minster Lovell on a particularly beautiful morning & I have to say it was one of our better pieces as there is so many great stories there & at the church . On our return over here in the good old US of A , North East Pennsylvania if you need to know we went into the studio to start putting it all together & that’s when we discovered that all the audio from there & a couple of other locations was completely shot & completely unusable. So there you have it mate . We will be back over next summer, obviously Covid permitting , for a well earned family holiday for 4 weeks & the plan is to do some more filming. I would say beautiful creation of almighty Lord the Lord of the whole universe,
this is an expensive part of the UK! Average house price is 4 to five times more compared to what you can buy elsewhere, outside of London.
Syed, You can travel there on a budget and still get a taste of real England; however, I would imagine buying a piece of authentic England would cost quite a bit.
SYED ADEEL HUSSAIN There are Premier Inns and plenty of cheap B&B’s all over the UK. So exploring the Uk is possible on a budget. Especially in the Cotswolds. Make up some sandwiches and a thermos and you’re good to go. But for those who do decide to visit, even on a budget, they must treat themselves to a pub lunch and an English cream tea whilst they’re there. ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

A nice program, but too focussed on religious material and only covers the northern area (apart from Bibury). You have also fallen into the Daily Mail trap of extending the boundaries of the Cotswolds.

We at Tour Guides Travel Guides welcome all comments, good, bad & in your case indifferent to the absolute barking ! To address your thoughts, I have after 30 years in the travel industry, had a pretty clear idea to the boundaries of the Cotswolds & am not entirely sure to which trap in the Daily Mail “ The Worlds Greatest Newspaper “ you refer to, not a journal I ever read anyway. Perhaps you could enlighten me. I don’t think we over did it on any religious matters, however, the wool churches are a very important part of the Cotswolds landscape. With regards to the itinerary it is one of many that can be easily done in a weekend, as the title suggests. We do plan to come back over to the UK next summer to do some more filming & yes the Cotswolds has already been discussed. Finally to your other comment regarding Great Tew , admittedly not your typical Cotswolds village, darker stone, thatched roofs etc. but definitely on the edge of the Cotswolds, again I would welcome your comments as to why it is not. This would depend on where in the Cotswolds you were wanting to use it. It is not he best place in general to get from point a to pinto b. If you give me an itinerary, Ill try to be more helpful.

The flag of England as a country comes from the the flag of the Republic of Genoa. In medieval times England had not a royal navy that dates at 16th century. It was not a powerful navy and so England payed a tribute to the Republic of Genoa to expose its flag, that was the St George Red Cross. If an england ship was attacked by other ships it was like that was attcked a Genoa ship and Genoa had a powerfull military fleet.

Great film but could be so much better with more skilful camera work, scene transitions and tighter editing. Leaving a camera on auto aperture on is a big no no.That said, nice work but please work on the production values. All the best

As a tour guide, one of the biggest concerns visitors have is "Where are the bathrooms?" I guess it's human nature to want the comfort of knowing all your needs are met. I made it my mission in life to locate the "good" ones. Thanks for watching and noticing, Rich

We agree Jer1967. Spring and Summer are both beautiful times in this area. Unfortunately, as full time tour guides, we cannot film during that time because we are taking groups out.
Exactly, it would prevent ignorant Americans slagging off our weather. Even though it rains less in the Cotswolds annually than the majority of places in the States!

The UK does get a bad press about its rainfall, it doesn't actually rain all the time although we get enough to make us the green & pleasant land that we are . Unfortunately I only had a very small window to film our Cotswold edition before flying home to the USA & it happened to be that weekend which rained most of the time. This should be renamed "Cotswolds Churches Tour". Spent WAY too much time in and around the churches, with just brief glimpses of the towns and villages, which should have been the focus of the guide.
