  • Leonard Nimoy makes an appearance on The Late Late Show where he chats about his life as Spock, the Star Trek character he has played for 30 years.
Leonard Nimoy wrote two volumes of an autobiography called ‘I Am Not Spock’ (1975) and ‘I Am Spock’ (1995), both of which explore the nature of his public and private persona. Following the publication of the first volume, many Star Trek fans thought that Nimoy was attempting to disassociate himself from his character Spock. In the second volume published twenty years later he reflects on his affinity with the character.
I’ve had a wonderful, wonderful career as a result of Star Trek and Mr Spock, and I consider the character a very positive role model.
On the character of Spock, he comments
Spock has that balance of logic and emotion.
This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 24 November 1995. The presenter is Gay Byrne.

I went to see him in Easons the next day too. I bought his book and also brought my Mr Spock’s Music from Outer Space album with me hoping he would sign it. As I nervously approached him, I was told that he was only signing his book but when he saw the album he asked me where I got it and kindly signed it for me!

He was so cool. And his voice was brilliant. It's like he was from another planet or something.

Almost; he was from the Yiddish speaking section of Boston, probably a place that doesn't exist anymore.

What a great interview. Leonard Nimoy; intelligent, erudite and interesting. I could listen to him all day, every day. It's great that all the old interviews etc from years ago can be enjoyed by fans old and new, thanks to platforms like UA-cam and the diligence of it's content creators. Thank you for this, it's one I'd not seen before ;)

He used the terms "social justice" and "meritocracy" as equivocal terms, within two sentences of one another. I think someone's soy brain is exploding somewhere.
    Thanks for the content.
Keep up the good work. בס״ד

Meritocracy good, equal opportunity good. Social justice has got to mean wokism = bad. Equal outcome = bad. Reward people by merit while giving them equal opportunity to reach their goals and not by what race or gender they are with a thumb on the weighing scales "affirmative" action initiative which only hurts the very people one should be trying to help. I mean who would want all the people of a certain group learning to be a doctor or a pilot being given an inflated test score by a professor/instructor because the melatonin content in their skin met a certain threshold. This would cause an ongoing negative perception. Do it the way Martin Luther King said, judge people by the content of their character and not by the colour of their skin.

His take on the ST society is 25 years ahead of a lot of social narrative at the moment.

Yeah, but a difference, they don't care about ethnicity, gender, etc., it's just meritocracy. And nothing else.

Mr Spock once nearly directed the first Lethal Weapon film.
