  • My computer monitor was having issues and not turning on. It turns out that the root cause was a few bad electrolytic capacitors that needed to be replaced. In this video we show how to disassemble and replace these expired components to repair the monitor. This monitor is a HP Compaq LA2405wg but the process should be similar for many other monitors.

From the looks of the board, the 3 caps near the 2 you replaced, will also need to be replaced at some point soon too. They look to be bulging as well. They might last a while but will eventually fail sooner than later.

The three electrolytic caps on the right side next to the defective ones (C124 & C125) don't look very healthy anymore, too.
Based on the discoloring PCB there are is a lot of heat/thermal stress. It can help to mount the diodes not flush on the board, but a lifted above it a bit, in the air. This way the leads can act like a small heatspreader / heatsink.
