Bought a brand new laptop two weeks ago for the fall semester, put it on my nightstand last night without shutting it off, went to use it today and no lights, no noise, nothing. I followed this video and I have my laptop back and running! You saved my whole college career! I had already called multiple techs who wanted to charge me $40-75 just to diagnose. I'm so thankful for this video!!
Dell is actually one of the better brands, but if you bought an laptop for $3-400 every brand is shit. You just need to spend more for a good laptop. For instance look at the dell xps 15 series. They cost arround $1600-2400 but have the specs of a MSI of $800-1000. That extra money you are paying is going to services you wont have and extra quality. MSI laptops will break in 2-3 years and my dell xps that I have is already running 5 years good and is still very sturdy. No broken hinges whatsoever.
This would be the second time I have to return this laptop!! It was a Christmas present for my daughter. Gave it a second chance but we’re at square one again!!!! Going now to return it and buying something else!!!! Thank you dell, for only frustrations, and wast of our times!!!
After testing the battery, power cord, and jack, I had two "professionals" nearly convince me to replace the motherboard. After doing a bit of research, I stumbled across your video and... voila... computer is up and running. Nice fix... saved me hundreds of dollars for parts/labor. Thank you.
You made my day. I took out the battery, held down the power button, used timer for 30 secs, let go of the power button. Put on the battery. Now I can turn on the laptop.
It worked! Thank you! I called the Geek Squad tech support and they told me to do it for 10 seconds and nothing happened. You said hold it for 30 seconds and it worked! THANK YOU!
I am so very grateful to you! Thanks a million like! Dropped my laptop while trying to set my son up with one of my old phones, as he broke his. We were soaked to the skin after coming back from a very wet and cold beach walk. (It’s March, in Ireland) Found your brilliant video and all fixed! Thanks so so much. An Irish Mammy and her son will sleep very well tonight! 😂❤
I owe you multiple beers/wine/drink of your choice. Just replaced the keyboard on my latitude 7390 and it wouldn't power up. Found your video and now I'm back in business. Thanks
This absolutely fixed the problem. Worked like a charm. The only challenge I had was removing/unplugging the battery as I had to apply a lot of force and was not sure if I would make things worse.
Still doesn't work. After I plug it in, there is no LED indication, and when I hold the power button it makes the fan sound but no LED and the screen still doesn't turn on. It was working just fine last night.
this was the solution, with the help of this video had my computer running again in about 15 minutes, just to clarify because in the midlle of my computer crisis, I missed it. The battery must be unplugged before the power is pressed for 30 secs. Thank you so much for the instructions....good luch out there!
Holy Sh**! I didnt think this would work, best buy geek squad said they would have to send it out for 2 weeks and it would be $100-$300 to fix. Well it worked and only took 3-5 minutes! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thanks buddy. You just save my sister from a very big problem. I don't know how many computer repair shops just do this easy trick and earns a lot...😀😀
Omg thank you sir I really appreciate this I got a new laptop after breaking my other one so I got this for my 13th and tonight it stopped working not even a month after I got it I was so happy when it turned on so thank you so so much ur a life saver
This worked for me on the first attempt with a new, three-week old, Dell Inspiron 5591 laptop. Disconnect power cable, remove the 9 silver screws carefully and note where they came from because there are different lengths. Carefully unsnap the back-cover. Two black screws hold down the battery and they need to be removed too. Carefully slide the flat battery connector out of the connector on the motherboard. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds to discharge the system. Re-insert the battery connector and screw the battery back down. They snap the cover back on and the 9 screws. Make sure not to over tighten. Insert power cable and power on the laptop.
I don’t usually leave UA-cam comments but am leaving this one to let you all know that this worked for me and my Dell G3 gaming laptop! Would recommend following the steps in this video before taking next steps.
Excellent! Worked like a charm. Thanks so much. Unfortunately, the same issue keeps repeating itself. Won't start, take back off, disconnect battery, hold power, fixed. Then days later dark again. Any ideas what is causing this? Thanks
first of all, thank you very much! I finally fixed my dell. However, I have some suggestion. Could you next time outline the steps you gonna take? I followed along the video until I finally realize that I just needed to take out the battery and then press and then wait. And my Dell has detachable battery, which mean I don't have to disassemble my laptop...
Just one more commenter sending you a giant THANK YOU for posting this awesome informational video. Evening went from ruined to saved thanks to you! Planned obsolescence didn’t win today!!!
Hi can someone help...I opened my Dell inspiron 15 se to clean up the fan area and I then re assembled it...after that tried to switch it on is not happening
This actually worked, thank you for saving me time and money. I pay $1000 for a Dell G3 laptop just 2 months ago and I already am having problems, I really need to say away from Dell.
Wow this actually worked. I have a G7 and for no reason, when I turned on my laptop, the white power LED light lit up for like 10 seconds and then turned off. Screen was blank the whole time and there was no noise coming from the laptop. Did this and it worked. Thanks so much for the help.
Had a similar problem and disconnecting the battery didnt fix it. In the end I disconnected the CMOS battery, held the power button down for 15 sec and then reconnected and this fixed it. Had to reset the settings (date, time, boot, etc) but all good now
Also try taking out the CMOS battery if just the normal battery doesn't fix your problem. It might be located on the motherboard depending on the Dell model. Google a diagram before you try.
Cmos battery won't affect boot up. It just trickles pwr to the bios chip and keeps your clock on time which is the clue you need a cmos batt. when the clock is wrong after every time charger is unplugged.
So glad I ran across this as it worked like a charm!! Thank you for saving me money I don’t have to spend on extra these days. God bless you for sharing.
I had the same problem and I looked on dell's forum and found something that worked for me. My laptop booted up and turned off but you could still see the lights flickering. What you want to do is to remove the battery, turn in the laptop, if the lights are on even without the battery it means that your power supply is running fine. Open the back cap of your laptop and then locate the ram, if you want to you can also locate the hard drive. Remove either the HD or the ram or both and then reput them back in (make sure the ram is installed properly) what you will want to do is to reput the battery and start the laptop, everything should work. It did for me
This helped my same laptop turn on again. The problem is that when I turn it off and try using again later I have to redo everything again. It's a pain, anything I can do? Why do I need to keep doing this over?
Brilliant! Just holding down the power button for 30 seconds brought it back to life for me, without taking out the battery. Mine is left on continuously and had not been used for 3 days straight, due to the holiday. Thank you!
Thank you so much, your tutorial worked perfectly! Just out of interest, what is a cause of this problem and howcome it gets solved by this? Thank you once again.
For me, your suggestion (which I knew already from the Dell website) worked only once. What helped with my Latitude 6430u was to re-install the most recent BIOS (which was already installed).
@@NightyFall I tried many times and when it started (after maybe about 30 attempts) I installed the BIOS. However, in the meantime the laptop doesn't start at all, therefore, I bought a new notebook (not a Dell).

I left the battery out b/c I've seen many issues with laptop batteries in the past. Lots of negative comments here about Dell; I've had nothing but good experiences...

Same problem. With your help I've managed to fix my laptop, Dell Vostro - Model P24F. I thought that it's motherboard was roasted and I was ready to disassemble the laptop. But fortunately I found your tutorial and was very helpful. Thank you very much !!!

Hello, i bought a replacement battery for my dell 7537 few days ago and powered on ok the first time. On the second time, the moment I had powered on the laptop on it had immediately shut down despite having a partial charge. My only guess is that the laptop does not like the new replacement battery, so was wondering if following your steps will resolve the issue?
This trick worked for my Dell Latitude 5290. Thank you for this great video. Dell should make computers that don't need such a crazy "disconnect the whole battery" reset. Never had such a issue with a Mac laptop (thought I've had plenty of others)...

Worked perfectly! Thank you so much... Couldn't have done it without your advice :)
Guys, I looked this video up and waited for likes days then realized it was just dead......
I thought that too... It's been plugged in for 2 hours and still no LED indication. This thing is pissing me off.
worked perfect thanks a lot just wondering will it happen again is laptop on its way out??
Wow it did worked! Thank you so much!!!
Hi! : )
Wish i could say the same. Mine didn't work :(
This trick worked for my Dell Latitude 5290. Thank you for this great video. Dell should make computers that don't need such a crazy "disconnect the whole battery" reset. Never had such a issue with a Mac laptop (thought I've had plenty of others)...
