Hi there Spencer with Shreducation here. You’ve found me! I’ve been teaching guitar and playing live music for over 15 years, and as of Summer 2021 I now teach guitar over the internet!
I teach beginner to advanced students and everything in between. United chucked my month-old PRS (lefty at that. About fuckin impossible to get) in a new SKB TSA case SO fucking hard they snapped all the corners out of the case and put a 10" crack down the middle of the back of said case. Somehow the prs came out ok. I have no idea how. Case is fuckin toast. "LOL oopsie" basically from them regarding that. We should be allowed 10 minutes with the baggage handlers in a locked room.
Ahhhhhhhh man so lucky the guitar was cool. Testament to SKBs quality right there!!! Did they pay for the case?
@@ShreducationNation no sir they didn't comp the case.. but yeah I was INSANELY lucky. Ever heard the song "united breaks guitars"? Heard it today and thought of ya. Lol I hope they make ahit right. If not, I'll toss some bucks towards replacement. Maybe we can get a gofundme or some shit to ease the pain of this fuckery.

That really sucks :( have you taken the guitar to a luthier to see if they could repair? Luke Heaton at Whittlesticks in Cedar City Utah could probably fix it, I’ve seen him do some crazy repairs. The neck still looks good so it’s worth a try

Man, this sucks so bad. So sorry to hear this.
In a much lesser of a story. I had several cheap Squier guitars flying with me over seas in some super basic tweed hard cases. TSA decided they didn’t like some of the other luggage I packed in there and absolutely destroyed two cases. Lufthansa Airlines comped me for both cases and it wasn’t even their fault… customer service is such a huge deal in any business. I can’t stand for the life of me when companies (especially big companies with seemingly unlimited means) stiff on the most important aspect-their customers. Moral of the story: if going over seas, fly Lufthansa if possible!

I saw that the Department of Transportation mandates that guitars be allowed as carry on, did they not allow you to carry your guitar on?
I was pretty sure of that too but i had an American Airlines agent tell me the only way I would get a guitar into an overhead bin is if I “bought a private jet.” For this one I was using the expensive travel case that claimed to be safe to check. Admittedly way too big for overhead but the whole point of the case is to check it!

Thanks!!! I love the gig, he’s so nice and his whole band and crew are amazing. Percussionist plays with Jason Mraz, flutist did all the flute in Anchorman. Everybody shreds I’m the village idiot for sure.

@@ShreducationNation So we were actually playing with Dariush another Persian artist. And the guitarist brought 2 guitars and they got frozen because under the plane and it fucked up the electronics, so one of the crew guys at the venue had to solder it to make it work. And there was ice on his fretboard when he pulled it out… Great for the intonation

You’re so right! They begged me to carry it on and I said “no please just destroy this for me! It’ll make way better content if I don’t have this guitar anymore!” Luckily they were kind enough to oblige. I am blessed 😊

I really feel for you, but in this case, you don't really have a case.
Checked luggage is meant for clothes. We all know how the bags get mistreated and wrecked by airports.
United clearly states they don't cover damage to musical instruments on their website, something you should check before risking a 3900 USD guitar.
You can't expect them to pay you almost 4 grand because you risked a fragile instrument without reading the rules.
Hey appreciate the response here. My lawyer of course says similar, but says if you can prove gross negligence a judge may order some compensation. Airlines actually do pay out up to $4000 specifically - diff for some airlines but that is a pretty common ceiling. If they just destroyed an expensive suitcase they would send money over no problems Also the 15 person crew we travel with checks about 8 pelicans worth of audio and lighting stuff every show and that shits always fine.
We’ll see what happens and if I win I’m gonna come back and comment “You Got Served” and if I lose you have to pie me in the face. Fair is fair!
